Right, i need to vent so you guys are going to hear it Gets a call at 1pm today, the mother in laws crappy mk4 tdi has broken down and wont start, so being the caring son in law i down tools and go and help her. After 10 mins i diagnose a starter motor issue, as in its goosed. I tell her to ring her aa,rac or whatever to tow it back to mine and ill look at sorting it, well she doesnt have any of that cover so i use my green flag bearing in mind i pay for that. I then use my car to go and get a new starter from ecp, £65 plus a £24 surcharge when you return the old part, i pay for this as i ha2 points -

It made it worse as i dropped the machine polishing to sort it out for her aswell, so double hit...£25 out of pocket and lost 3 hours on the vr6!! Feels like ive had a good day, i want to kick her in the fangita!!1 point -
do you have access to a power probe? they can be bought in basic form from ebay .. a cheap sealey 6v to say 24v tester is around £20 and is ideal for this sort of issue as you can test for power n neg plus you can earth something or power it up so can eliminate wiring issues and or faulty components. the coil could of crack due to excess current passing through and the heat damaged it so beware that there isnt an underlying fault .. personally id be careful where u go from here as miss placed power can damage more items ..1 point

You learn which family members to help out and which ones to "assist" with cash for parts before hand. This is one of the reasons I steer clear of a lot of old friends and family. Something for nothing with a kick in the happy sack as a thank you.1 point

What is this for?

I made one for my leon out a metal water bottle, worked mint. Vr bay is a bit tighter though. Only problem I see with running just a pipe is oil hitting the road.1 point -

I didn't expect any labour cash at all, I'd never charge family for anything but also didn't expect to pay £25 to fix someone else's car!! Bloody mother in laws, at least their daughters don't end up like them usually, oh wait!!1 point -

Sorry can you speak normal WTF is a "paremetric" there is no such thing ive tried google. Advising somebody to do something without knowing wtf they have cut is pointless and the thread is 3 months old now so im sure it has been sorted one way or another.1 point

I purchased one of the Alphabet Bay, Didnt use it as it required small Filter on the outlet. Just left it with the Pipe and filter hanging right below at back end of block. No Fumes!!!1 point
-
Naaaa....Lol Run the Filter to atmostphere as he's doing now. BUT, get a long arse pipe and run it to the side of the wing or at the back of the block. It does clog up throttle when original piping is on.1 point

Blue smoke on these tend to be Oil Stem Seals. You can have a look at the bottom end of block when you take the Head off. VR6 lump can take a beating. Normal cases are the stem seals mate. Puffs of Blue smoke at rear when taking off!! Ideally get them from VW (TPS), DO NOT get from EURO, coz theyre pretty shiiite dot com.1 point

well in true VR style i went to change the brakes today n wheel bearings and some pr*ck has rounded all the allen key head bolts off so we had a game removing them ... then found both rear calipers seized so after much swearing and having to removed the dust covers we got it all back together but obvs with no dust covers and knowing there fuc*ed wven though they went back eventually im gonna get some new ones .. plus ill get some second hand carriers n get um sanded down n painted so it all looks fresh ... plan for tomorrow is engine oil change n filter again .. its only done about 700 mi1 point

I was thinking the same because it would be good for my turbo build but then I thought how many times will I crack in the future especially when I'm running a bit of boost? I could really do with the Golf being reliable lolSent from my LT26i using Tapatalk1 point

Note : that forum is awesome I could read it forever1 point

The whole car basically lol... Arches, inner and outer sills, floor pan (especially around the bungs) tend to be the worst places, patches on the boot, doors, petrol cap are common Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point
