  1. Lazy, LOL! I decided from day one there wasn't going to be any screaming action from my VRT. I understand the theory of why some folk feel it's bad routing the exhaust back into the downpipe, but honestly, unless you're pushing for the last hp and running mega boost, it makes no difference. Besides which, wastegates have always been routed back into the exhaust for decades, so I'm not sure where this screamer pipe trend came from.....America probably. All they care about is speed. To hell with all the smoke and noise, just so long as it's quick :-)
  2. Don't read too much into it. It's just another one of those internet trends. I personally feel 'screamer pipes' are ridiculous and have no place on a road car. It's just a glorified exhaust leak. As said above, if the wastegate dump is routed back into the downpipe at a shallow angle, you won't have any flow problems, not that routing it in at 90 degrees is a massive problem anyway.

  5. Road mapped. Eventually I will spend some time on Stealth's rollers and fine tune some areas but for now it drives sweet :-)

  7. Yes I built my own loom for my DTA S80 and it's really not that bad. I wasn't going to pay £1000 for an unterminated loom when it's something I could do myself.   8. I have the G60 final drive in mine and it does accelerate more aggressively than a couple of other VRTs I've tried with standard gearing :-)
  9. Ah OK, I see now. So the rear mount was lowered to account for the R36 install, but you're wanting to use it on a 12V engine? The Vibratechnics mounts are designed to be the same height as a standard mount compressed by engine weight, so they are already a good deal shorter than a new VAG mount. A further 10mm chopped off isn't a good idea on a 12V mate, so I would put the chopped off slice back on personally!
  10. Skimmed?? If you fit an uprated front only, the rear mount takes more of the stress and the bolt that runs through the middle of it bends and I've seen it snap in some cases too. What I recommended above is a great setup and will last for years.
  11. And 360hp is just the start... it can do well in the 400s :-) The only thing holding these VRTs back is traction and gearbox strength. The engines can put out some crazy power :-)
  12. Competition Front, Fast Road Rear, MK2 Deisel Gearbox - From VW, not GSF as it's schitt. The gearbox mount transfers the most amount of vibration and noise into the car, so avoid VT on the box if you want refinement.
  13. The standard clutch can cope with that easily. But if you want to upgrade anyway, I recommend the Helix clutch, which is just a bit heavier under foot than the OEM one and just as smooth, but holds a lot more torque.
  14. Yeah that kit is a bit on the cheap side really and too small. That turbo wil spool too quickly, break gearboxes and be gutless at the top end. If you want to do it on a budget, I would seriously recommend using s/hand brand names than chinese cloned stuff. I know it's hard to tell the difference sometimes, but just ask us and we'll make sure you don't get ripped off with the wrong kit :-)
  15. A GT3076R is a nice 350 - 450hp turbo mate. With the 0.82 turbine housing. I would say though that even though the 35R is barely trying at 350hp, it's still a brilliant turbo and will see you through to 600hp no worries. The thing is, nearly everyone with boost wants more, it's an uncontrollable addiction. Look at Jim, he started off with 10 ish psi, now he's running 17!! It happens to us all. So personally I always prefer to over build than under build. It's cheaper in the long run ;-)
  16. I wish, I might actually get a good salary working for NASA! LOL! That is just how I understand it mate. Other folk might think differently. You certainly get a lot of conflicting info on the net these days! It is complicated when you first get into turbos, but the more start playing with these things, the more you learn, as with everything else :-) If you only want 350hp, then a GT35R is barely into it's efficiency zone (another complicated subject!) at that power and you might want to consider a GT30R instead.
  17. I would only run a 1.06 GT35R with a full 3" exhaust and no cat personally. The 0.82R GT35R spools sooner and works well with 2.5" systems and 3" cats under 20psi, whilst still outflowing a GT30R at the top end. Advantages between internal and external wastegates? Mainly cost, packaging and flow requirements. OEs favour internal WGs to keep the costs down and make the installs neater. External gates flow more. A lot more. In fact you will struggle to find a VR6 Turbo manifold that doesn't have an external gate outlet. There is more choice of turbos which run external gates too and they'
  18. I wouldn't mess with OBD2 throttle bodies. They are £350 from VW if you mess it up! You can't enlarge the throttle plate either, which is where the gains come from. Polishing alone does nothing as the throttle hole is still the same size. OBD2 has servo motor idle control, so none of the OBD1 throttles will fit (different stud pattern) or work with the ECU. The head is the biggest restriction. Look at cams and bigger valves if you can afford it. There are no cheap tweaks for the VR sadly.... If you can get a Corrado G60 gearbox for pennies and know a mate who can build transmissions,

  20. All done. Pretty straight forward to install and noise wise, it's about the same as an old K Jet MK1 or MK2 that's got a tired pump. Can't hear it all when cruising, just a buzz/whine at idle. Loads quieter than the normal mounting method :-)
  21. That hose splits on standard VR6s to be fair, but yep, this is what I keep banging on about guys - build over kill to make your VRTs reliable :-)
