  1. Yeah I remember them too. I believe a copy of their chip has been doing the rounds on ebay for some time now. Just the usual increased advance below 4000rpm I suspect and probably a pinch more fuel in the open loop maps.
  2. When you shorten a driveshaft, is it just one of the ends trimmed and resplined, or do you have to cut it in half, shorten it and reweld it?
  3. Walbro GSS340 intank + Bosch 044 external.
  4. In 100% agreement /\ I would also do some research into OBX's quality aswell before handing over any money.
  5. http://www.sprayitracing.com/52lb%20Bosch%20EV14%20High%20Impedance.htm Just bear in mind that I use a standalone and can use any injector. I have no idea how good or bad these will run on standard Motronic.
  6. The turbo Stealth use isn't a genuine Garrett.
  7. Well done, I see you have a basic grasp of mathematics. You fail to mention turbo engines of the 70s/80s ran 8:1 or lower compression, so 10:1 and 1.2 bar is still high compression for a turbo engine. And VR6 turbos are often 8.5:1 or 9:1, which is lower than 10!!!!!!
  8. MK5 02Q box has improved selector forks and same gears as O2M. Slightly different casing too and no speedo drive! Road speed comes from the ABS sensors.
  9. Yeah definitely! Some people lose the plot and have to win no matter what! I let them get on with it!
  10. Yep, the injectors are cut in sequence, not all at once. Nope, you don't feel it. It's no difference to over run, which is the injectors turned off ;-) Fuelling leaner than 17:1 just doesn't burn / explode at all and that's the strategy it works to.
  11. Yep, the rear diff engages drive to the rear wheels. Yep you need the 24v starter. Different bolt spacing. I think you also need the 24v thermostat housing and one or two of the associated hoses. And driveshaft alterations! Defo not cheap, but not expensive compared to a gearset! Isn't the V5 box an 02J variant? Just avoid MK5 02Qs as they have no speedo worm gear.
  12. Lowering the compression ratio is purely to prevent detonation, but is now a legacy of old technology Modern turbo engines like the TT RS's run 1.2 bar on 10:1 because of the direct injection. I was speaking to a chap who builds drag cars recently and he said their 2000hp engines run 15:1 compression and 2 bar boost! And a diet of Sunoco 118 octane fuel of course ;-)
  13. Yeah it's all detailed in the R32 sump thread in the stickied area. Not cheap though :-( But then it is a very elegant solution imo, and all OE perfect looking!
  14. The rev counter isn't very accurate at all, especially at lower rpms. Log it with VAG-COM if you have it? Fire up a couple of Measuring blocks, including rpm, set it to write to a log and then go for a blat. When you get back, download the log and open it MS Excel. VAG-COM records the actual rpm from the crank sensor. The rev needle takes a signal from the ECU which then has to be driven mechanically, so there's an element of error involved. I personally wouldn't make a habit of revving to 7300rpm on a standard VR6. It's not making torque up there, so there's no point. With HD springs
  15. Oh absolutely, it's definititley fun upsetting owners of these cars with ancient Volkswagens :-) If I can't beat something, I at least like to make it hard work for them to get past, ha ha! Happened with a guy in an Audi S5 last year. He was irritating me with his tailgaiting and weaving left to right to see if the road in front of me was clear. So after the car in front moved over, I nailed it and left him reeling in a 5 car length lead....but then he caught up again and had to get to a daft speed to get past, which he did, and then slammed his brakes on to take his turn off. LOL! A
  16. Let me know how that plug works out mate as I like the look of that idea :-) Dry sumping would solve the problem nicely! And of course you could lower the engine down to lower the centre of gravity, the handling would be epic. You'd need a way to realign the driveshafts though! FWIW, I thumped my R32 sump onto pack ice a few times last winter and it took it like a man :-) They tend to have a chunk torn off rather than shatter mate.
  17. Maseratis are slow. Heavy car with a weedy V8. They always get blown away when they come out of Lancasters and join the A12 :-) Pick on a 997 turbo though or one of the Ferrari 458s and you will have your arse handed to you. VRTs are quick, but they're not THAT quick :-)
  18. How can we tell you what cams will work best for you? That's like asking the forum what I should have for dinner tonight. There is more than enough info about cams in this forum, try the search. Why regrind stock cams when Autotech 262s are really cheap and work well?
  19. There are more than enough threads on there to hold it tightly in place. Why not modify the sump or fit the R32 sump/pump combo and get more clearance?
  20. The T70 is a bit too big and the K27 is too small. Well, I say too big and too small but it depends where you want the boost to come in. T70 won't full boost till around 4000 or later and the K27 will probably full boost at 2500 or lower and run out of grunt....plus it's only a 2.75" outlet, so will choke the top end.
  21. Too small. If you don't know where to start, get a T60-1 if you're on a budget, or a GT35R if you're feeling flush.
  22. Simple but bloody effective :-) All it does is pull back the fuelling proportional to the spin so in a strange kind of paradox, less power actually = quicker accelertion :-)
