  1. Well, had a very productive couple of weekends. Rear arches rolled with a slight flare. Doors, wings, boot, rear bumper, spoiler, grill primered. Masked ready for painting! Primered. The paints on, but your not seeing it yet! Not till i've put all the millions of bits back together! :-) Ha ha, i'm cruel aren't i!!!! :-)(6)
  2. Sounds better, the cheaper the better being that time of year an all!
  3. Outer cv's require 'beating' off-if you put the driveshaft in a vise, then hit the hell out of the cv, and it should pop off the shaft. Inner cv's have a circlip holding the cv on, remove this then it should slide off. (both when removed from the car) You will need to do either of these to replace the boots unfortunatly!
  4. No, neither are permenant 4wd. The syncro uses mechanical means to engage the rear wheels when needed, haldex uses electronic means to engage the rear wheels. Both systems rely on 'slip' detected (from the front) to engage the rear wheels. E.g when cruising on the motorway it will be fwd. From a standing start at the lights, you boot it, front wheels start to spin, engages the rear diff, an boom, 4wd! Until the speeds of the front an rear even out.
  5. The head needs to be removed, then stripped down; the valves compressed to release the collets that hold the spring 'hat' on, then remove the tool, 'hat', spring, then you should see the rubber stem seal. Might as well lap the valves back in seeing as though your there.
  6. Well why don't you put it on and see if you like it or not. It won't take much to swap it all over. I used both and i thought it made a little difference, but like you say, most of it down to personal preference.
  7. Most people would say the 3 layer metal type gasket. And i used copper slip to lube up my bolts!
  8. Might possibly have to miss this, especially if the weather is cack. Sorry peeps, gotta finish my car! ;-)
  9. I think you can buy phono cable spliters.
  10. Did you lube the bolts and washers up before you put them in? They need it as otherwise they grip on the head and you won't be able to turn them anymore. I used a snap on 1/2" tech angle torque wrench, but it was my bosses an he let me have a play!
  11. Nice ride mate. How do you find the t70 turbo? What sort of boost are you running? How are you finding tuning your megasquirt?
  12. Na, sorry mate, that cats not going anywhere! You'll have to wait an see :-)

Just got a few spots to do on the wings, doors are ready for paint, tailgates ready, need to finish fillering the old aerial hole, old fuel flap is ready. I'l post some piccys later....
  14. Fair play to you mate, welding cars can be a pain, and as you are rightly saying, they are being stripped for no reason. If you've got the kit, workshop etc then why not? Good on ya fella! Long live the mk3 golf!! :-)
