  1. Sounds reasonable. I guess it depends on how valuable the A/C is to you. Is it working now? In my opinion for 300 notes plus parts I would have it charged with refrigerant and then see how long it works for, if it last the summer be happy and go and get it filled up again next summer, you could go for several summers like that before you clear £300, if it lasts a couple of weeks, then go change your evaporator. Leaks on A/C are like leaks on everything, you get big ones that loose gas faster than you can put it in, and you get little ones that just need a top up now and then. Personal choice
  2. Norwich, so probably not very economical to get it done by me up there in Leicester. In my opinion Service on Car A/C is not worth the money. The most problems come from blocked Condensers on normal A/C, where the fins get blocked with dirt. That is not a problem on a car as the wind rushing through it when you doing a ton will do a good job of cleaning it out! The most important thing on car A/C is to run it for a 15 mins once a week, most car A/C leaks come from the seals on the Compressor, running it lubricates them and keeps them soft. Which gas is your car on? If it is R134a you can regas
  3. What happened to the VR6OC shop? :S
  4. No the evaporator is the cold bit inside the car, it will look the similar to a heater matrix in as much as its pipes with fins over them. I dont know for certain where it is but it would be easy to find if you trace the gas pipes. How do you know it is leaking? I am an Aircon Engineer so this is my Mastermind subject! The whole job is not a DIY job, as it will need a Vacuum pump and Pressure test and Gas, but it would make it a lot cheaper if you could do the `monkey` work and then just get it checked after.
  5. Black smoke is normal ish, Blue smoke is getting f f f fu****, BRown and white smoke you had better start getting your running boots on!!!!

    Seats

Done a search for `MK4 seats`, found some details on the forum, i think page 3 of the search had the most details. Sounds like a chore to me!!! Apparently Mk4 seat are bigger and the rear ones split different so all in all about a days work! More hassle than I want anyway!! Looking for a more two or three bolts kinda thing!!! Shall have to keep my eyes peeled for an R Reg or something that has not had as much UV exposure!
  13. Just plugged my vavavoom in to VAGCOM for the first time and got the engine speed sensor (513) one cos the engine was off, but I also got an O2 sensor fault (525), is this another name for a Lambda probe? Also why is it doing it? Says its intermittent, so i had a look on the live data feed bit with the engine on and it was reading 1.00x most of the time on idle, but i didnt take it for a spin round the block or anything. Before you ask I did clear the code, and yes it did come back within 24 hours :-d ! Also of interest is that the car seems fine apart from a burble on decelleration, with a no

    Seats

My seats are looking a bit faded and grey. Anyway i was at the local salvage yard and spotted some mint Mk4 black seats in fitting with the car and wondered if these would be a straight swap? Thanks.

    Rs4 Vs M5

Nutters, they deserve to get impaled on a bridge driving like that!!! They obviously got more balls than brains!
  17. Have you disconnected the handbrake cable to see if it is the cable sticking or the caliper? The cable is really easy to pop off the caliper and this would tell you where to look. I have heard that the calipers have a tendency to get seized up, but they are not hugely expensive. I got some for mine they were VW recon ones for £50. Brand new ones are not available anywhere. They charge you almost double that but give you the money back when you hand the old caliper in. Also did you take the caliper off? As the rear calipers need to be wound back when changing pads and discs etc!
  18. Girly car innit! I do quite like the look of them though, considered one, before the kids! I quite like the whole MG range. I dont think they got no balls though, I was cruising along the dual carriageway at 80 overtaking a few things and one started tailgating me. Not impressed! Stayed put and he eventually undertook. I let him go and kept him in sight. got to a roundabout and there he was sitting there waiting for traffic, so I pulled up behind with the mrs and her mate and the two kids. Came round the roundabout nailed to his bumper then he opened up and i was still there, couple of seconds
  19. They made the old beetles there until a few years ago! think they only stopped about 10 years ago or something like that! Yes Wolfsburg is the home of VW, like Hethel in Norfolk is the home of Lotus. They make VW all over the world, but Wolfsburg is where Mr VW started out in his Garden shed! WEll not exactly but you get the idea. If you ever go to Germany you will find that a lot of VW have a Wolfsburg number plate as the workers get a huge discount, so they all buy them keep them until they are allowed another and sell it on for almost the same as they bought it for. I was born in Germany, a
  20. Could be a sticky starter solenoid, or relay? Reverse lights unless someone frigged with the wiring i would say it gotta be the switch on the gearbox.
  21. Mine did that before i changed my stat, used to just sit at 70 and in the winter time there was no heat from the matrix, put a new stat on and all better. Did you put the stat in the right way up? I know it sounds dumb, but apparently it is possible and people have done it! Dunno what sort of result it would give?
  22. I agree, in th style of V6 4motion. WOuld look good!!
  23. I found my old van on it!! Youre right it is not real time, as some local houses are missing, and they were built around 3 years ago!! It is great though, so long as you live in a city and not in the sticks, as the detail is not as good.
  24. I like that!!! Uncle Sol does like his toffee doesnt he?!
