  2. Why is it that everyone gotta knock VR6! Talked to a chap today at a party. Started talking about cars. Next thing he is telling me V6 Vw are not fast not even theR32. So I say fair enough, depending on what you comparing to, as VW are not really Race spec by comparison to FQ400 etc. Next thing he telling me his 1.8 Rover gonna kick my arse!   5. Mine does that too. Nothing to do with anti thrash, just over fuelling and stuff cos the engine cold. However never rev over 3k till the oil is hot, ie over 70-80C!!!! Sure fire way to fcuk an engine!
  6. How do you know its warped? If it is warped then you need to get a new disc and pads. Like the man says strip and clean first, unless it all looks poop!

  9. Its true what you say about the oil, I wont let a garage do service work, or repairs unless I diagnose it, buy the parts, and just let them fit my parts! Most jobs I will do myself, but sometimes it just too much hassle, better to get a gimp grease monkey to get in a pit and do it for me! No disrespect to Mechanics! Just part fitters I dont trust!
  10. No need to go there. Any grease monkey could sort that kind of problem out! Find yourself a local mechanic with at least two brain cells and you will be up and running in no time. Steer clear of the old ones though, most over 40`s, are a whizz on Carbs, but as soon as they get a fault code on an ECU they will strip it out and replace it, and then scratch their bum when the fault is still there! Probably something simple lika a sensor if the engine is running OK apart from the fuel consumption.

  12. Oil change works wonders!!!! All the VW I have owned have had hydro tappets and they all the same, never mind the service light, the tappets tell you when you need a service!
  13. Bit of an expensive way to find out! I would agree its not at 6200, as that is the rev limit! I would say it is around the 5300 mark. My rule of thumb is to put it in 4th and accelerate flat out from 1000rpm ish, you will notice it starts to pull slowly, then as you get to around 3500 it takes off like Concorde, then starts to tail off again at around 5300. What you are aiming for is to drop it into 2nd, and for the revs to be in that "take off zone". Over rev and youre killing the engine for nothing.   14. Look in a haynes manual, does not have to be a VW one, any old one will do.they have a brief section in there, however you will struggle to do it, and a garage will do it in half the time. IMO more hassle than its worth, cos they will probably still be off and fail on MOT, if you DIY it. Line it up on a wall and mark the centre then drive back x amount of metres and it gotta be a small amount below the mark. I have never found a suitable wall and level surface!

  17. How about the clutch, as this is on the same circuit, but I doubt it would interfere with the brakes?! Also did you bleed the master cylinder?

    IMO, get the RADO, I got the Golf cos they are Common, but now I am kicking myself everytime I see a Rado drive by!
  19. No its better than security cam its the Mrs with her phone from the bedroom window! She has a better field of vision, and she gives great head too! Yeah it is pretty shocking, think mine would have been ok, but the Gti would have been f*****! No fuel in tank, think the extra bright bit was the fire engine with full beam!
  20. need to bleed the ABS unit? I am sure you used to have to do something to the brake balance spring thing too? correct me if I am wrong here guys.
  21. They are easy enough to do, but they often get corroded in, which makes a five min job into an hour! Nothing a drop of WD, wont sort though! Defo need to get the fault read though, I had a Laguna where it chucked up an ABS fault everytime it rained, never did find that fault! good job i sold it in the summer!!
