Coil pack off and moved out of way with HT leads attached, plastic manifold cover off. 7 Bolts so far! Pull the hoses off, unplug the sensors, undo the three bolt that hold it on. there you go! I replace the whole thing cos mine was leaking through a pinprick hole in the housing. Very easy, like the man said Allen key and pump pliers!

I would also be interested in cruise control! Group buy? With a guide?

Golf VR6 - How many miles to a tank of juice?
dellert replied to MarkP's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Its good fun trying to get the mpg up!!! Very exciting and also very frustrating cos you know every time someone pulls out in front of you or you catch the lights the mpg gonna drop again!!! Keep in fifth and be gentle and you should be able to keep it over 30mpg. Not a lot worse than my 2.0 Laguna, used to get 33mpg in that. -
Clever stuff, never thought of that!! Then I got a van full of bits parked next to my car so i never had to worry, prob got 1000 of them on the van!!Lol

[moved] vr6 both fans staying on
dellert replied to tonyfromdeal's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Only a problem if the fans are on and the gauge starts going up. Getting warm outside now innit!! Also if you got aircon these create heat in the condenser which is strapped to the rad and also uses the same fan for cooling. Also you only got one fan cos the lump too big for the second motor, hence when the fan runs both blades spin cos they are linked by a little belt. -
its an easy job but you may struggle with the bolts!!!! I did, rounded them off and ended up taking it to a garage to grind them off! Jack up, wheel off, handbrake off, disconnect handbrake cable, undo the two allen bolts that hold the caliper on, you may get away with just one?! I had to do both as i was changing disc as well. pop the pads out, then you need to wind the piston back, there are two notches in the piston face and you need to turn it back, not sure if its clockwise or anticlockwise, then fit the new pads, and there you are, i generally bleed the system when i do this purely cos w

DIY store, M8 refers to the diameter of the bolt, being 8mm.If i remember correctly this should fit a 13mm socket perfectly. does not need to be exact 75mm long but it does need to be quite long as otherwise you wont be able to get it down far enough to un tension the belt.

Mine blew off some coolant too. As the coolant heats it expands so if you fill it up to maximum or above it will probably dump some.
-
It could be anywhere, you will need to be more specific than that. Best to check when the engine is hot and coolant is under pressure. You will need the cap on for it to pressurise! once you find the leak I am sure someone will be able to tell you what it is and a price and probably a part number and fitting guide!!!!

How far from the plug is it? If you have enough space to strip the cable back and join it, you could use a straight crimp and cover it with heatshrink? Easier to do than soldering and gives a good result. Cheap and permanent and not dodgy bodgy at all! All you would need is a crimp and some crimping pliers, even if you get top notch ratchet crimping pliers will only be about £15, which i would as the other kind are hopeless! I use them at work all the time no problems.

Well, thats what I remember him telling me. Either way not cheap though is it?! They did offer a discount if I took my trousers down and bent over! lol
-
You will need and M8 bolt like JImbo said about 75mm long. I changed mine, pretty easy to do if a little awquward (spell check?!). My tensioner went about two weeks later though!! Since then i found out you can strip them and regrease the bearings in the plastic pulley! Which i think would be well worth it as the tensioner comes as one and cost £125 from stealer and £75 from GSF!!!! So worth worth ten minutes of your time to pack it with grease!!! I posted a guide on the forum if you do a search. Was in the last month or two.

Oil Oil everywhere, but not in my engine!
dellert replied to dellert's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
What a muppet! the bit attached to the engine is the engine mount!!!! and the oil is not oil it is grease off the UJ on driveshaft as gaitor is split!! Sprayed it everywhere!!! -
Have had an oil leak for a while now, but never got round to tracing it. Just crawled out from under it now. It seems it has a small leak on the oil cooler which i knew about, and have some seals for. However as always with the VR nothing is :S simple!!! It does not leak when stationary, but there is a snail trail down the back of the engine where it is also leaking. However i cannot see the point of egress as there is too many bits in the way!! It is directly below the exhaust manifold, but above the sump, it looks like there is something bolted on to the engine there, but i dont know what i

Very true gooner!!! When I was with NU I got a crap renewal, so I did not renew it, in the week that followed I got a call from the Customer retention team, who gave me a good price. Until I got the VR6 when they started demanding Cat1 Thatcham on a 2k car!! Nutters! Told them, the average chav cant nick it cos it got immobiliser, and it aint worth nicking for money and shipping to russian mafia! But they no listen!!

sorry to wander off, but I think they are slow. Not in the real sense of slow, but relatively. 24v over 12v, in my opinion it should be 230bhp not a miserable 206bhp, I also think that the 4WD was a mistake, FWD would have sufficed. The VR6 works fine on 2WD so for the extra few grunts 4WD is unecessary. I have been looking at them to replace my aged VR6, but the cost does not match the gains. Gonna keep saving, for the R32

Yeah the vin number will tell you everything about the car. Each digit or set of digits is a code for a different piece of information. Like bar codes on food. Did you know that the first two digits of a barcode relate to the country of origin?

adrian flux now! norwich union made a fuss about being 24 and then they made a fuss about the lack of thatcham cat1! so i told em to get stuffed! not like its a 20k car, too hard for the average chav to nick, but not valuable enough to nick for profit, therefor in my opinion no need for a thatcham cat1!

Looking at a 4Motion engine, to replace my jerryatric VR6 one, is there anyone who can do this for me please? Some stipulations though; gotta be quick (e) as it is my only transport , cheap and local to norfolk, and most importantly professional!! There will then be a an engine for sale ready for a recon!

For me the throw is not a problem, I barely fit in a golf!! Just too eager with the clutch, wanna be getting the power down!!! Dump the clutch too early, and then munch the gears!!!
-
are you sure its not youre driving? I have done it countless times, its ok when theres no pressure, but if i am booting it up a slip road in someones slipstream i miss 3rd every time!!! not a happy bunny cos that gives them time to get away!!! Maybe just me?!

Fiat 126 700cc (SN) (Blew up), Austin Metro 1000cc (tu) (Blew up), Pug 405 1900cc :-* (rolled 360!), VW Golf Mk2 1800GL (u) (uneconomical repair after dopey mrs smashed wing), Nissan Bluebird 1600cc (sold to a Grandad), Laguna 2000cc (sold to another grandad), Golf VR6!!!!!, next one hopefully another V6 VW maybe a Rado I like but the mrs wants another Golf but younger one.

Gotta keep the price down!! Under 10k. All I want is a VW Golf that beats Scoobies! Thought about a charger but for the price and that of a new engine (mine is on 150k)bout 5k when all is done. I just think there must be other options.
