  1. Depends what you want? Do you wanna expand with a Sub and Amp later, or just a decent Head Unit, to work with the standard speakers?
  2. The factory VR6 alarm? Mine aint got one! Immobiliser only I think was the standard.
  3. its easy enough to do, no fear of airlocks as all VW are self purging. Best to get all the seals for the thermostat housing, as you will find they wont seal properly once you have taken it apart. there are som detailed instruction on here if you do a search.
  4. over eager on the clutch? I do this a lot when i am head to head up a slip road!
  5. Dunno about where you live, but here in sunny norfolk i get a blob of cream on my filler cap whenever the mrs does a school run in damp weather, cos the engine does not get hot enough to boil the condensation off, from the damp air it pulls in for combustion. Everyone panics about the head gasket! When it goes, it will go! There will be a mess and it will not run! Simple as!
  6. The advert alone gets on my tits!! I thought the majority of accidents happen on short journeys, ie the school run! Reason women are such safe drivers is they usually only on mens policy as second driver, so their accidents make us look bad!
  7. Bang the starter motor with a hammer or other large metal implement, whilst your mate/mrs tries to start the car. I done my service a few weeks ago and flooded the engine bay with the hose. Done exactly the same on mine. Click Click and no turning over. Banged it once and hehe, life again, not done it since, must have flooded something! Could be a flat battery I guess, but if it was the lights in the dash would go out as you tried to start it as the motor would drain all the power. If the lights in the dash stay on bright it is definately not the battery. You cant miss the starter, it has got a
  8. Its a DIESEL?!?!? Does it smoke? Maybe an injector?
  9. Where are you from? I think VR6Pete is trying to organise a kind of diagnostic network around the country, with members from this forum.
  10. Its at the bottom right, below the battery. Sounds like it might be solenoid, if the starter does not turn engine over. Does it click and when you turn the key?
  11. If there is a supply to it have you checked you have an earth from the motor to the chassis? wont work without one and the tailgates have a tendency to get rotten. If there is a supply to it and a good earth then its f****d. go get a new one. Easy way to test earth is to just hold a bit of cable between the neg terminal of the motor and put the other end on a clean piece of bare metal.
  12. Cos all vr6 have ABS! probably just removed the bulb, may be lucky and its just blown?!
  13. Pop the plugs out and inspect their condition. Spark plugs can tell you a lot about the engine.
  14. Yes it is how they do it. I dunno mate, take it to a key cutting place they will be able to tell you if they can do it. Mine was 95 N and it was fine, but mine was ODB1.
  15. Depends on the age of the vehicle. Older transponders have a static code, which anyone can do for about £20. Newer ones have a dynamic code, that changes everytime you use it, which only VW can do.
  16. Been looking around, appear to be almost as rare as Rocking Horse Crap! The ones that are for sale come in two tone, blue and white or orange and white, or something equally tasteful! never mind I guess it adds character!
  17. not behind it!!!! pull the ashtray out, and to the left of it above the fag lighter there is a little cover that slides to the right.
  18. Same as mine, ashtray out and slide the door off to the right, mine is also ODB1, with coilpack. Got mine off EBay, from E-Cafe, tried and tested, I got the 9-pin one not USB. Came from US, but still fairly quick delivery.
  19. Yeah looks good, but why spend all those pennies on the headlamps, and do half a job on the indicator lenses and fogs?!?!
  20. If it were true all performance exhaust would carry a warning on them, along the lines of "Not for road use, track use only". SImilar to License plates you can buy that do not conform to the standards.
  21. I imagine they would, but that would cost a fortune! The car and its ECU should keep the emmissions down automatically though.
  22. To check tension. There are two lines on the tensioner, with a little arrow pointing in between them, if all is well. If all is not well the arrow will be outside the two markers.
  23. dellert said ... Norwich is in! In where? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the arse end of nowhere! I am happy to help in Norwich
  24. Shame there was not a rabbit or something in the road! So long as they come from behind its their insurance! Or called police saying you scared and driven to them taking him in tow and waited for them to arrest him when he landed you one!
