  1. As I mentioned before I have a spare engine in my garage, but really it's destiny is for the black VR as it a very good condition 74k engine, I want to rebuild for the black one. So..... I started to repair the engine already in this one. Will be giving the engine a flush after I finished doing all the work, so bought it ready. First thing was To take the rocker cover off and look at the tappets. One of them was very noisy, loose and could get a feeler gauge at 0.05 under it. So I decided replaced all six on the one cam shaft. Timing checked, cam's checked, cam locked with 5mm alloy plat
  2. Custom coolant pipes turned up before Xmas, and will be going on soon. Unsure if I should remove the rear seat and fit half cage. Or keep interior as it is.
  3. Fair play mate, loads of work going on. Keep it up dude.
  4. Welcome buddy, nice motor. Any future plans?
  5. Welcome buddy, Mince supercharged 2.8 12v VR6. Michael (1st person to reply) has. Turbo VR6 in a mk2 golf.
  6. Looking very nice buddy, Some of the best metal polish I used has been Menzerna 3 stage metal polish , and Menzerna polishing wheels. Should look sweet when back together
  7. The chip inside needs to either to be re-coded, or swapped with another chip depending on ECU model. You can only swap the chip if you have certain ECU models, as some models have sockets with a removable chip, where other models have the chip soldered directly to the board. If you have a soldered type chip, the chip needs un-soldering, and a socket fitted instead. Chips and sockets can be bought from a few companies, United Motorsport, C2 Motorsport. Dub force, VW parts international, As you live far away you could also remove your ECU unit, and send it away for re-mapping / re-coding
  8. I remember you trying to get in contact with him, just after you bought it. Plus I know a lot more work has gone in to it, that you have put on your build
  9. Nice photos buddy! I'd love a much better camera, But I can justifie the money for the decent DSLR I want.
  10. You only have 3 if you have air con.
  11. Started painting a few things, Sanded the grain off a spare inlet cover I had, Photo is from about half way through sanding. Bought some polo handles, There easier to colour code, as there already painted, so no need to sand the grain out, and half the prep work compared to mk3 handles, I have them on the black VR as well, and personally I prefer the shape of them. But there not a direct fit, they fit in the holes, and bolt in position, but the rear catch that connects to the lock release pin doesn't line up and fit. So the lock mechanism needs to be removed from inside the door, and th
  12. You should run the ford CD-V6 engine cover, And paint it up nicely. Keep up the good work buddy!
  13. No problem buddy, I'd recommend D.O.T approved air line, And D.O.T approved fittings, as a minimum. Flexible nylon air lines are not the best, I'd pay more for the D.O.T approved stuff, as a minimum. D.O.T approved: Double layered, Hard to kink or fold, Double sealed fitting (seals on inside and outside of pipe) Vehicle approved (lorry air brakes, government buses, range rovers and few vehicles that come with air bags from factory - would run this types of air line and fittings) Nylon air line: Cheaper, Single layered, Folds, bends and kinks easily (causing air blocks or bottle nec
  14. I ordered them from Germany, so I'm not sure sorry. I ordered it with a low temp thermostate, and a low temp fan switch, at the same time, as a kit that came together. I had to get them from Germany as I couldn't find them for sale in UK. Low temp thermostate can be found in UK, But not low temp fan swith. I couldn't find it for a decent price anyway. Think it was about £22 for the both of them. They are both OEM, so they are from different vehicles, but I'm unsure which sorry. All I know is it's the same plug fitting as a standard OBD2. None of this needing to change the plug, and wires.
  15. Fair play mate, Good fabricating skills you have. Keep up the good work dude
  16. No problem buddy, I've used it a few time now, and yes it's brilliant. There is one deeper cleaner I also use made by the leather clinic - called 'leather deep cleaner' which gives a much deep clean the Gliptone. But is also more aggressive and you take the chance of removing some colour or dye if not carefull. But it's good for stains on leather. Drop me a PM if you need any advice on leather stuff dude.
  17. Sweet looking car dude, seen it at a few shows and meets. What plans have you got for it over winter?
  18. Mine don't seem to noisy, but there drilled and grooved, not dimpled and grooved. I have brembo discs all round, drilled and grooved, With EBC pads. Run this set up for few years. I also make sure the holes are clear, by blasting them with compressed air from time to time. Hopefully mine will be getting a front disk and caliper upgrade soon.
  19. Why not upgrade to mk4 rear calipers, only cheap and a lot of people do it. So it's tried and tested. Would mean a little bit more work, but in the long run you'd be better off.
  20. Getting there buddy, Should be two types of idea pulleys you could make, the Z-engineering type, which I have seen a few vortex users change to. Why lots of the z-enginneering chargers are missing idel brakets and pulleys, as people swap them on to different chargers. Or the standard vortex idel pulley, I'd always go for the dual pulley set up, as it tensiones much better than a single pulley tensioner.
  21. I do have spare coilovers, I also have spare eibach springs. And my winter wheels for the black one are splits, But there 5x120, so I would need another set of adaptors, if I can find a cheap 2nd hand set, I'd use the TT wheels as my winters lol. Kinda reason I bought it, I have so many spares I could use Every VR needs a better suspension setup, and nice wheels
  22. Cheers dude, It's going to have much less done to it than the black one, well that's the plan at the mo anyway.
