  1. If you need i have a few spare 83mm pistons lying around if you fancy a rebuild
  2. Cable ties!? I'd expect that on my project, not on yours! Lol Yeah keep it steady and the seals should be okay.. could you not just change the vso's yourself?
  3. Theres positives and negatives to each, i'll be running a charge cooler when mines up and running. I think there can be a bit more boost loss, because pipework is more intricate and the tank changes the direction of the air. Although spturbo claim theirs has a boost loss of something like .25 bar iirc, and i wont doubt their claims. But i believe it has more cooling efficiency.
  4. I dont really know of any places that do 'kits' mainly because every builds different at the end of the day. Personally i would get the intercooler, i would recommend a garret core or maybe a forge but i believe they support more 1.8t engines and the such. Once you've got that mocked up somewhere, plan your pipe routes and write a list out of bends and straights you'll need. That's my way of thinking anyway.
  5. A beer says something falls off on the way down did you get your valve seal issues sorted?
  6. Run what psi you want!! Depends how much power you want.
  7. Personally i would, its only going to cool the hot air coming out of the compressor, so its going to help the engine make power. If you get a good one it can reduce boost losses you get in cheaper intercoolers.
  8. Might be worth someone standing near near the speed bump as you drive over it to see what they can hear externally, can sometimes help.
  9. Its obd2, 1996 was the change over year i believe
  10. Youll need seatbelts and airbags as it came with them as standard. Could use race harnesses though? Cant see perspex windows being a problem but im not sure to be honest. Not sure on your plans for the engine but some tracks have funny sound regulations when it comes to exhausts.
  11. Gethin had one off his 24v he was selling, not sure if it sold or not though.
  12. Either a headspacer to lower compression, or use low compression pistons, but their usually big bucks.
  13. To get rid of airlocks, you have to bleed the system, which unfortunately i can't remember how to do. Hopefully someone will be able to tell you on here
  14. As Pete says, get a sniffer test / leakdown test done, that'll tell you what's what, hopefully is just air in the system. If you do have to take the head off, just have a good look round, make sure the tensioners on the chain aren't broken e.t.c and check the guides for wear e.t.c
  15. With the arp bolts, you won't notice any difference, but it replaces the old vw rivets which are very prone to breaking.
  16. For the studs i just put some red loctite on it and did it fairly tight with a ratchet
  17. also thats for a 12V engine, you have a 24v engine, the exhaust mainfold is different for a start
  18. I feel for you mate, I've been there too, bought my golf, same day the head gasket went :/
  19. did you notice any white smoke coming out of the exhaust? Or look on the oil cap, any mayo type substance there? Although that will only show if oil is mixing with water, doesnt necessarily happen all the time with headgaskets. But these heads are quite vulnerable, if you drove it for 20 mins with no water chances are heads warped. As said do a compression test and a leakdown test and that will be your indicator of what to do next.
  20. Not sure if their available from tps, iif it is i wouldnt like to imagine the cost. I believe their from G60 gearboxes, look on ebay or your breakers see if you can nab one
