    What on earth posessed VW to put one bolt longer than the other on the gearbox is beyond me. The amount of times I've had to check 100 times before i put them back on...

    Not the biggest fan if beers, Although i do like Guinness and Fosters now and again. My weak spot is spirits, i love vodkas, russian standard neat on the rocks is lovely, good for stripping engines and brain cells! Love jager as well, neat like you would a whiskey, helps me get to sleep. Oh and ginger beers, either crabbies or when i can find it a ginger joes beer

    We have a MOT test (ministry of transport) but that is an annual test, i suppose if yours is every two years its far more rigorous?

    Is your lambda (Oxygen sensor) still connected? that and maf is probably why its misfiring, not the coilpack.

    Bummer, sorry to hear that, at least its not too much of a bad job if you have a spare one you can build up, could've been piston rings e.t.c Not going to be much help i know but i have a set of spare refurbed valves if you need em.

    Sort of, i took it to a machining company, and they said yeah they can do it no problems. unfortunately in the process of getting it to them i dropped it and left s big gash on the deck. too deep to machine out really

    i find it easier to take the plugs out without the inlet, especially on the back row. Just take your time finding the thread, and maybe put a thread chaser down the hole to get rid of all the crap. just check the head while the rockers off, look for anything to be worried about. Could do your tensioner bearing as well?

    My theory is the gearbox is going to be not seen as much as everything as in the bay, so it doesn't matter too much. And it'll give me a bit of practice if i want to do anymore.

    Hey all, Just a bit of sunday fun again. After reading through Lukey's highlights of putting his gearbox back on, it got me reminiscing of times ive hit various bits of me on bits of car. This looks like nothing but trust me I thought my finger had come off before i took my glove off. Got my engine into my bay, and started disassembling my engine hoist. its not hydraluic, and is basically two girders strapped together on a thread to wind it up and down. Anyway I pulled the bolt out to fold it back up and the top arm swung back the wrong way, and got my finger trapped right inbetween them. Was

    Hi guys, So now i've nearly (and about bloomin time!) rebuilt my engine, I've started looking at giving my gearbox and few other ancillaries, and maybe if i get brave enough tackle my engine and give it a lick of paint. Thing is I know nothing of spraying, I have a compressor, and thats about it! Could anyone give me a few pointers on, basically, everything! What guns are good? what paint / primer to use and where to get it from? Will have a few practice session on some newspaper and a few bits of metal I have laying around, but all help is welcome!!
