  1. Mine were rusted in the tears when I bought it, mine has the plastic arch extensions, and when I fixed them and re sprayed I waxoyled the bejesus out of them and put the arch extensions back on and they have been good since.

I have a mate with an early mk4 GTI and the recaros in it are the exact same style and the mountings look the same too
  3. I've had faults before that a simple disconnect of the big multiplug on the unit for 20 mins has cleared off
  4. The fuse panel is below the knee bar plastics near the bonnet release, the cover has the fuse layout on it.
  5. if changing the ball joints youll need the 3 bolts and the little triangular brackets too, they will need hacking up to get the current ones off
  6. The KB guide gives you all you need to get it out, I'll give you a tip though, undo the dash bar bolts in the door shuts and it'll give you a good but more wiggle room.
  7. Slipped ball joint bolts sounds more likely as a first point of least resistance, or even just the shock mounting bolts, they are slots for some movement. Mine were looking similar to yours but on both sides, like looking at an X5 from the back, full on camber, it was all just because it needed proper alignment.
  8. The bottom ball joint has about a cm of in and out movement, if the driver is all the way in and the other all the way out it could show a noticeable difference between each side. I'll take it you made sure if there's any spacers that they are the same thickness.
  9. All it would have done is blow water out, wouldn't have caused the oil and water to mix

    mod hatred!

If we follow the logic of this though, you must have a really nice car?
  11. Take them out and put them back in one at a time, if you get wet, then you did it wrong
  12. For the gearbox bolts I wrapped some masking tape around them and biro'd on them like 12 o'clock, 2 o'clock, 10 o'clock. Take pics of the wiring and connectors too it makes it basically fool proof. While you've got it all off it's a perfect chance to send the injectors off for a service, mr injector is a good quick service.
  13. The obvious things include new set of stretch bolts for the flywheel, pressure plate and head? You need special 12 point spline bits to undo the drive shafts, head bolts and flywheel bolts and they're all different sized, the clutch plate bolts are an odd size, either 9mm or 11mm can't remember. you will definitely need a torque wrench that will go from 10 to at least 110Nm and a breaker bar. Take the front off by undoing the big bolts behind the indicators and the 4 bolts at the slam panel edges, it will make the whole thing about 58 times easier. Ps If like me you are OCD about putting a c
  14. Looks like you're not getting either fuel or spark
  15. The stat itself is dead cheap and it's really easy to do it yourself just take the stat cover off on the housing under the inlet on the right hand side. You'll obviously need to replace the coolant as it will drop it all. You could do it with just a screwdriver and 5mm Allen key.
  16. I always just get hypnotised by the bald man babbling a load of bullshit getting more and more irate, at something, don't ever know what.
  17. Not very much though, a few mm
