Shafted dude, You're quite unlucky aint you Yeah you would exspect oil starvation... low oil pressure ect or possible if the wrong tourge setting been used on the bottem end/ not tighted up properly if its been rebuilt. If when its running if you take the spark plug leads off one by one does the knocking noise goes quiter it will help tell you which one or ones is knocking (as it stops the load on the piston which you've removed the spark plug on), If the noise doesn't quiten down atall then its probaly not your big ends. tom -
How do I go about reading engine codes
Phat VR6 replied to biggee30's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Got it from ebay mate, Just serch VAG.com on there. Only £10 It came with the CD and cable, Don't think its the full vertion but will read fault codes ect, All I know is the cable is for OBD2 and will plug into my VR, Any of them that says there for VWs or OBD2/ vag.com should work. Hope this helps Tom -

DIY turbo VR6 Corrado,updated.
Phat VR6 replied to CorradoVR6-n.o.s's topic in Members Rides and Event Photos
Fair play, Good tread, Im very impressed with your shourt runner inlet mainifold, You used a schimmel one before?? Guessing yours does pritty much the same thing and theres no point in spend the extra on the schimmel one! You going to make your own exhaust mainfold up out of standard mainfolds, Gota watch out for cracking ect but looking at your inlet im sure you do a good job??? Will be intresting to see -
Oh fair play, Didn't relise there was a big difference in price, Thats why I want one because they are soooo fast for little power and money. Donno if you've seen Ghost rider on you tube but he rides a hyabusa turbo which is ment to be 500bhp, So if you ever get bored of 0-60 in 3.5 secs you can always bank a turbo on there ha ha What rally car did you have before? And what you doing for a reverse??
-
could also be clutch master cylinder
-
I would think they are the same engine but im unsure hence why i asked lol, Id be surpriced if they made a new engine to go into one model of car?? And the reason they didn't put it into the mk5 is because they just thought a 3.6 was just way to silly to put into a hackback? Would be nice to think that if your putting new pistons into a R32 you could turn it into a 3.6 or at least a 3.4 :-d I think its somthink i find out for sure when im older and can afford to do this sort of thing, Cheers anyway
-
AH just seen its indepentant
-
It does look sick, Need to lower it abit more aswell if your on coilovers (bollucks to the speed bumps) You might be lucky and find somone on ebay selling a smoothed one! Or buy a second bumper drop in into a body shop with your paint code and tell them to smooth and paint it for you......
-
Mate thats wicked, Why dont you put a hyabusa engine in it instead? I want to build a caterham one day and slap my self a hyabusa in it, Love the wheels as well, Can I ask if its indepentant rear or soild axal? and if you use the bike gearbox or have use some bell housing adapter to mate it to a car gearbox? That thing should be silly rapid and fair play for starting an intresting thread, Good luck with the build tom

I agree the MAF that doesn't make sence to me atall, Thats the engines airflow meter and conected to the engine ECU??? Wouldn't think its conected to the gearbox in any way I thought the gearbox would have its own ECU, and doesnt use a MAF, I never worked of a VR auto, But other auto cars and fire engines (trucks) At my last place we had a computer to plug in and test the auto boxs, TPS would cause the gearchanged to change at the wrong time and a VR could use the MAF as a TPS but id be surpriced Can't you get it pluged in and have faults read off the gearbox ecu? Could be low oil? Bloc

I just wondering if the R32 and the passat R36 are the same engine If your going to charge the R32 and put low compression pistons in there if you could bore the R32 into the R36??
-
LMAO about the slutty rings haha Im fully quafied ect. But you've scared me off fitting my rings now :-( Changed many rings but never on a VR, Was under the impression that if i got the block bored id be able to do the rest myself and it wouldn't be very different to any of the other engines ive worked on before???? Can I be abit rude and ask how much the hole job is costing you? Tom
-
What make and compression you going for? I know you can get 83mm JE forged high compression (10,1) pistons from schimmel performance for $740. I think that works out to about £400 ish which isn't bad, Not sure about postage and import tax.... http://spturbo.com/ Also quick qwestion on the same subject. How do you know if you need a rebore, If your compression is good.... If they just look smooth/polished then wont just homing them do the job, Or is there some kind of messurment you can do with internal vernia gauge, Orr leave the piston and use feeler gauges?? Thanks, should be an i
-
Wise words indeed :-p :-d Rallys wicked, Well worth the money id change the wheels but its nice...
-
so a 2931 with 83mm bore is a.............2.9!!!!
