Milltek fitted perfectly on mine and is the same diameter as the stock exhaust so straight fit but a lot more freer flowing to make it breathe a bit more. Perfect sound - very similar to a Jetex in the fact you get a subtle low deep noise on idle and when you drive at a constant speed, but when you drive and put your foot down it's like an aston martin howl - not chav like at all. Stealth really rated it when they fitted it and commented on how well it fitted. It looks good from the back too - twin exit.

What power reading did you get at the wheels as that is the most accurate out of the two (you get two readings - the main one taken at the wheels and then this is converted to flywheel horsepower using a calculation - it is the flywheel horsepower that most people use to compare cars in this country). Lots of garages may use very slightly different formulae calculations to get the fly bhp. Whereas the wheel horse power is straight from their rollers - and as said above these too can vary from place to place. Also your car can vary from day to day. Even a whole lot of brand new cars from th

Does the exhaust seem to vibrate a lot? My gf's polo had a coilpack go and the exhaust vibrated a huge amount - replaced coilpack and the problem was sorted. I thought it was the cat too.

NO engine number on the block just on the cam cover
matth76 replied to descb600f's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Not sure but I think the engine number is on a small metal plate somewhere not actually on the block - but I might be wrong. Sure someone on here will tell you where the plate is. -
If something has been dislodged or disturbed is it easy to rectify and what part of the air bag system might have been disturbed by the changing of the ignition switch? Thanks

Hi Just had my ignition switch replaced and while my car was in the garage they rang me to say they saw the air bag warning light up on the test drive. I told them I had not seen this light before so can only assume something has been dislodged while they replaced the ignition switch. The garage is very honest and the guy doing the work is a family friend and charges very low cost. He said he will look into it tomorrow to find out the cause - but said he may have to speak to VW and VW are expensive but said he'll look into it. Has anyone else had the air bag warning light come on - what wa

New Tyres for Standard VR Wheels

As said above, only get it remapped if you have cams or above (smaller mods it is pointless). The stock OBD2 ecu is very good. The remap purely gets the fuelling spot on to prevent dangerous pinking. Extra power is a bonus. Stealth's remap is the one go go for - same price as an off the shelf superchip etc but far far more custom suited to your own car and it's mods - to get the most from your mods.

Just had an RAC inspectiob....lumpy idle?
matth76 replied to Futch's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
100k is not a lot of miles on a VR. Most run to over 200k if well looked after. Shouldn't be much wrong with it at 100k miles - find out if the timing chains have been done (these are similar to a cambelt) - if not you could knock of around 3 to 500 more as it costs £800-1000 to get done and often needs doing around the 100k mile mark (however only needs getting done if you can hear the signs - faint raspy noise behind the usual tappety noise - sometimes they last up to 150k miles)...if it hasn't been done I'd still get more knocked off the price mate. -
Could be coilpack. Does it run really lumpy and make strange noises? If it does then its very likely to be the coil pack

Thanks guys. Anyone know what this "high-intensity" number plate is ?

VR6 oh so sweet, why did you have to overheat?
matth76 replied to mombajomba's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Your car may still be ok and it may just be something else that is causing your car to idle badly - which was triggered by the overheat. Did you keep an eye on the oil temp while you drove home? Best to get to Stealth - they aren't far from you. Get your car towed there and tell Vince (Stealth's owner) that you are doing this and within a few hours he should be able to diagnose and hopefully have fixed your problem - or at least tell you one way or another and save you wasting a lot of time trying lots of other things. He's one of the best in the business when it comes to the VR. Good luck -
Nice one mate. How much you pick it up for?

They do look good. Unfortunately I need it road legal. Can't be doing with getting pulled and fined.

Hi I'm thinking about replacing my number plates which are looking a bit tatty. However I know it all has to be kept legal so I'm not messing with the font or anything. Where's the best place to get a replacement number plate? Do they come pre-drilled with holes or do they normally expect you to do it? Is the internet a good place to get some new plates? I've found the following site: http://www.4plates.co.uk/builder.asp and on it there is an option to have "high intensity" plates. What are these and more importantly are they still legal? Anyone have any pics of what they look like or what

Cars aren't affected even those with big V8s or V12s - no cars are in the highest band which is good. As said above only bigger 4x4's which are in the highest band are affected. Fine by me...I hate the things after one backed into my car a month ago. Even better they are raising the tax even more each year on 4x4's... up to 450 I believe. Unless they can prove they live on a farm and use it off road they should pay a lot more a year.

Undecided on tyre size
matth76 replied to craggsy's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
I'd go for the 45 profile too. This'll keep the rolling radius consistent with stock and you also get slightly better acceleration with the thicker profile Although 40 profile will look better. How come you're not going for stock 205 width? -
I had exactly your problem...always happened at the same speed - 70ish and above. It was very bad. Tracking alone fixed it totally. Get this done first before shelling out on new tyres.
-
Just make sure they take the whole gear box out to do the job - if they are not taking the gearbox out then they are not replacing your chains, merely replacing your tensioners which is pointless. For the time and work involved the price is very good. The main cost is the labour to get the box out. Which garage quoted you that?

VR6 oh so sweet, why did you have to overheat?
matth76 replied to mombajomba's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Same thing happened to me a year ago. Thermostats are a weak point on the VR. Mine seized just like yours causing the coolant to empty completely and the water temp hit the roof and the oil temp hit 118. Thankfully I stopped straight away - NEVER NEVER drive if this happens. I got my thermostat changed (£50 all in) and everything was fine. Anything over 130 for the oil temp is something to start worrying about. 110 should be fine. Get the thermostat and all its housing changed asap ...definitely don't drive it one cm. Did you get it towed home as soon as it happened? You'll need to to -
Yep totally agree with above - it sounds perfect - you can still clearly hear the v6. I've got a full milltek system with a 6 branch. The 6 branch doesn't make much difference at all - in my personal experience I wouldn't bother with a 6 branch - mine gained no power at all and just developed a blow in less than 6 months - more trouble than it's worth and mine is a supposedly good quality one and I have all the uprated engine mounts etc. However the Milltek exhaust is perfect - fitted perfectly and as said above has a very subtle tone - even at constant 70 it can hardly be heard (its not qu

The oil buzzer only sounds when you have low oil pressure. This is quite normal and the same on most cars (I agree it is odd they didn't employ one that uses oil level as that would be far better). You don't ever want to hear the oil warning buzzer! Serious engine damage can be caused if you have low oil pressure. Main thing is to check it regularly every two or three weeks.
