  1. Kwik Fit are normally expensive so if they can beat your local garage that means your local garage is very expensive mate. Look else where.
  2. Thanks mate. Interesting review. Not perfect by any means in Clarkson's eyes. I was very surprised to learn the focus RS was a second quicker round the track, although even more surprised to find both cars were 3 or 4 full seconds quicker than a subaru impreza. They must have been comparing it to the lower powered NON-STI bug eye or later version. Do you know where I could find a review about the mk3 VR6 on Top Gear? This is going back some time but yet to find this review any where on the net. Thanks again.
  3. Hi mate, first thing I would do is get a set of brand new plugs instead of cleaning the originals and see if that makes a difference. They need to be fully tightened too (so they click into place - easy to miss - my local main dealer failed to tighten up every single one of my 6 spark plugs leading to poor idling and tickover, mainly when the car was cold until the metal expanded) as that will make a huge difference. Failing that I would get new leads too and if that still doesn't work ditch the old distributor and get a new one. Only other thing I would think it could be is the engine mana
  4. Ok... and back to the top gear R32 review clip ...anyone have a link to where I can find this please? Cheers for any help.
  5. Not sure what all these other posts are about or have to do with this thread. Anyway thanks VRmofo my email is matt76_2@yahoo.com Is it a YouTube Top Gear review that you have?
  6. You should be able to unlock the steering rack even if you can't turn the engine on - just turn the key half way and then wriggle the steering wheel - it should release the lock. Could be possible that the wheels are turned all the way to the right or left - this will make it much harder to release the lock. I've had this a few times mate. Just need to keep wriggling until it comes free - try turning the steering wheel more in the direction that the wheels are in.
  7. On paper the 4motion has similar performance to a standard VR - both have very low 7 secs 0-60 with similar top speed. However (not sure about the 4 motion) but the factory performance figures for the mk3 VR were conservative from VW as it's quoted to have 174bhp standard but in fact the later OBD2 mk3's have 185-190bhp. I assume VW only took power readings on the earlier obd1. Power to weight gives the mk3 the advantage in my opinion (actually has exactly the same power to weight as the R32). In my own experience I've had a play with a serious CTR driver (which is a fair bit quicker than a
  8. Did it cut out on you too? Downloads and buffers fine (seemingly so) and then it plays but will all of a sudden stop and go back to the beginning and won't reach the end for some reason. Anyone know an alternative link on YouTube or WMV format as those clips play fine? Cheers
  9. Hi Just read a post further below re the R32 and there was a link in one of the threads to http://www.buzzhumor.com/videos/1714/Top_Gear_VW_Golf_R32 which contains a clip containing a Top Gear review about the mark 4 R32. All seemed great for 4 mins then the clip stopped even though it was all fully downloaded. Tried it a few times and keeps stopping randomly half way and I have to start from the beginning again with no way to fast forward to go to any point in the clip. Does anyone have any other links to the same clip or similar Top Gear review about it (had a search in YouTube but can't
  10. basically just compare your car to before they had it and now after. From what you have said you have a lot more problems after receiving the car back - therefore they should fix all the problems properly free of charge...end of story. If they don't then get trading standards on to them. One thing I would do is ring up another specialist like Vince at Stealth to get their opinion mate on the likely causes and what has likely gone wrong since Dub Sport had your car. Either way your car should be running a lot better now, not worse. Sounds like a real hassle mate.
  11. R32 all the way mate (simple reason - "no replacement for displacement"!). Just compare a 1.8 to a 3.2...no comparisson plus you get a proper sound with the big engine. Are you buying it or your mate? You might be better of turboing the R32. Some seriously big power can be had... I believe EIP do kits and The Phirm have recently fitted one to a Mk3 VR - has over 400bhp (not sure what stage it is). Cost shouldn't be much more than the stage 4 supercharger - the main cost I would imagine would be the change over for our rhd cars. Or contact Stealth Racing mate.
  12. Why do you need a new centre box when they say only the bracket has broken? Can't a new bracket just be put on. From what it sounds like you need a new rear box as you mention that is blowing. A new bracket for the centre box (not the box itself) and an abs sensor. Not sure but I think £436 seems way over the top. Might be far cheaper to get it all done and retested at another garage. Rear box shouldn't be much nor should the bracket and sensor. Then the £50 and labour cost is all you should pay - not sure where this £436 is coming from! Some MOT garages do try and rip you off. I would recommend Stealth too. I've heard iffy things about AMD. Sounds as though you have a 1995/M or earlier VR? That means you have an OBD1 ecu which responds far better to a remap than the later more advanced OBD2 ECU. If you had a later OBD2 ecu you wouldn't need a remap on your mods as the stock OBD2 ecu can cope with mods like yours. Only once you get cams or more extensive mods would you need a remap on an obd2. However your obd1 will respond well to a remap. By the way a remap is far better than an off the shelf chip (like AMD or Superchip) as it is a full custom remap suited dire
  14. If they get funny just quote the Sales of Goods Act - if the goods/service/product you have paid for is not to a reasonale expected standard in any way you are entitled to get it all rectified (you have up to 6 years to claim this) and if they can't rectify it they are liable to give a full refund. Glad you pointed them out. Certainly not a garage I'll be trusting my VR with. Not knowing how much it will cost is rediculous. Hope you get it all sorted out. Not the hassle you need at all! You mentioned above you didn't know how much it would cost until it was all done...Did they not ring you
  15. Contact NS Racing mate. Dub25 is a member on here who uses them and says good things about them. They deal in second hand chargers so you could get it at a lot lower cost than brand new. When I last asked NS Racing had a few second hand / refurb ZR2's for the £1k mark I seem to remember (Don't go for the older ZR1's as the belts are prone to slipping). You could always bargain the price down a bit further too.
  16. If it's P reg it will defintely be an OBD2. Unless it had an engine replacement - although can't imagine why they would put in an older OBD1 ecu/throttle body etc.
  17. Will be far far cheaper to buy a proper VR mate. It would be very expensive because it's not just the engine - all the electrics/looming, handling suspension, brakes, cooling system, exhaust system etc etc... then all the tuning to get it all set up right. Labour would be HUGE. And as said above insurance will also be much higher with a VR transplant car - insurance cars just hate it.. mainly due to their ignorance. You're basically looking at double the price of a VR. A very good VR with 70-80k miles full service history can be picked up for £2500-£3000.
  18. Sounds odd mate. Although I would always keep the revs below 3000-3500 revs until the car is fully warmed up for about 10-15mins (to normal oil temp ~90deg). Def aint good for the engine revving from cold. Problem could be leads or spark plugs if the problem goes away when the car's warmed up. I'd check this mate first. Failing that could be the coil pack.
  19. What happened with your AVG? That should be pretty good normally and has real time scanning (which a lot of free ones don't have).
  20. Hi Rob Someone here seems to have a set...see this thread: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?169855 Good luck mate.
  21. Hi Roey Just noticed someone on here is looking for a pair...see thread below: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?167462 Hope this helps.
  22. Nice to have new members add their two pence worth....Simplyvr6 not sure why you even mentioned the Phirm. No one else in this thread had until you did. I've simply had a lot of issues with my cam timing and chains in the past and believe me I have spoken at great length to more than one specialist and from my experience I can only offer "possible" causes to other members on here who have similar "symptoms" to me (that is what this forum is for - we do not offer expert advice - for proper advice we speak to the experts) but it is useful to learn new things and offer help to other members wh
