  1. 98k on mine. Hellsvr6 very low mileage mate..do you work from home? Or did you buy it with very low mileage?
  2. Yes I've got The Phirm's short shift kit. It's very good.
  3. Get a full check up at Stealth. They are the best in the business when it comes to ecu tuning. For just over £50 they will rolling road it and run a diagnostic to make sure its all working ok.
  4. Unfortunately the sloppy gear movement is a standard fault with the VR. It can be remedied with a short shift kit. I have one fitted however even if you fit a short shift kit the lever will still have a lot of slack movement (from left to right) - although it does now have a shorter throw. My gf's polo has a much tighter gearbox, absolutely no slack movement left to right and the throw/movement is nearly as short as mine with a short shift kit... and her's is a 1.1!. VW in the 90's really didn't put the effort in when they made the mk3 VR... bad gearbox and bad suspension (rant over!) The
  5. The fully synthetic oil could have been the cause of your smoke. It is far far too thin for the VR. You need semi-synthetic Quantum synta silva 10w40. I suspect all the smoke will no longer appear once you do a full oil change and start using this.
  6. Elephant (same as Admiral) don't let you use Autoglass, so I had to use their approve fitter which is RAC. I just asked that it was a genuine VW screen...they said it would take longer but that was fine with me. I told them the year of my car and they worked out which one I needed. Def get a genuine VW part.
  7. How much are you paying for it? Nice birthday present mate! When you took it for a test drive how did it feel compared to the stock mk3 vr6? Was it very different?
  8. Milltek make a high flow cat for the 12v mk3 vr6
  9. Conversely I was told by a specialist that heatwrapping actually makes stainless steel more brittle and prone to shearing because it gets far hotter - although it does aid heat transfer because it is hotter. Stainless steel can't handle heat very well compared to the stock manifold material.
  10. Didn't know they came in different sizes for the vr..can only assume it is meant for a different car. You could still be able to use it. Depends on the diameter of the connector hose. If you can get some hose and couple of heavy duty jubilee clips, see how you get on. Not sure if you can get hose that is bigger one end than the other...that would solve a problem if the diameter of the BMC is slightly to big or small compared to the part it connects to on your engine.
  11. My golf did that once when it was wet. Could feel the front wheels about to get a load of understeer, and then all of a sudden the back end swivelled out.. was only doing 15mph.. just took it too sharp. Plus the Goodyear F1 tyres were no good in the wet..very scary. Luckily it straightened out like yours.
  12. Go for Milltek. Stealth fitted mine and said it was a perfect fit. Sounds awesome when you have a BMC or similar induction kit. Not overly loud... but when you floor it it has an Aston Martin howl. Supposed to be better quality than Magnex. Certainly seems better compared to the Magnex I had on my old car... but the Magnex was still good...just not quite as good a quality in my opinion.
  13. If you can, try Tesco 99 ron. Higher ron rating and I used to use Optimax and also V-Max when it came out and the Tesco stuff is better in my opinion and runs really smoothly...but far far cheaper. Used to spend £45 a week - now I spend £35.
  14. I gave Facebook a go a few weeks back but I personally found it no good. Unless I lived in a biggish town or city it couldn't find any of my schools at all, and I have moved about quite a bit - couldn't find any of them - I assume this is because it is pretty new or their database has yet to update with all the data in the country. Very similar to faceparty, myspace, and friends reunited.
  15. The first stig now lives in Billingshurst. He's done lots of stunts too for films apparently. He knows my gf's father.
  16. 50 profile will be too big. You'll need 45 profile on 16's.
  17. Anyone seen Denise VanOuten in the new Morrison's ad? I never really used to like her much - bit too skinny. But she is absolutely stunning in the advert - really filled out in a "curvy" way.
  18. Shouldn't be group 17..should be 16 for a non-highline..unless I'm mistaken? Again, as above, nothing wrong at all with a non-highline. You can't get the mystic blue paint in a highline (which is personally my best colour) and I'm personally not a fan of any wood trim in a car. But that's just me. No difference at all in engine, performance output, etc, all the same. Only difference is the interior cosmetic trim.
  19. Both obd1 and the later obd2 cars have two chains. However the actual thickness / width of the chain is double on the top or bottom chain on the obd2...can't remember. Gavin, not much point just doing the top guide. Can't do the bottom guide without removing the gearbox - so may as well replace all the chains at same time as the labour is huge to replace the gearbox - and the chains can stretch and snap if not replaced. Get clutch done at same time too... will save you a huge amout in long run. Best to get all done while the box is out.
  20. Around £2k would be my estimate maybe slightly less. If it has full service history you may get closer to £2k. parkers.co.uk may have a guide price for your car. It's only done average miles for an 11 or 12 year old car so that's not a bad thing. Regular service history every 10k miles will be the deciding factor and how good a condition its in.
  21. A new MAF shouldn't be that much. You should be able to get a recon MAF too for much less. Brand new ones are very delicate and therefore no more reliable than recon MAF's.
  22. If yours is obd1 get an enlarged butterfly for your throttle body and any other mods to free up the breathing of your car. Then the custom remap should gain you an extra 15 or so bhp. The later obd2 vr doesn't gain anything having a chip or remap unless it is heavily modified. Yes would sound like the pinking would be due to the chip you had.
  23. Take it to another vw specialist who will listen to your engine (for free of course) and tell you if you have chain rattle or what the noise is. Also get them to check if the gearbox has been recently removed - which they'll be able to tell by the state of the bolts etc. Then if they confirm it is still chain rattle that is present take your car back to DB and say you have had it independently checked and the chain rattle is still present. Same thing happened to me, and the garage, Storm Developments, hadn't even taken my gearbox out, verified by two well known independents and the noise was
