Bhp in a stock obd2 vr is normally around the 185-190 mark with similar torque too. You've done very well getting your 16v to gain an extra 20bhp. A stock obd2 vr isn't the most powerful car - but it is full of character, the V6 howl! and you will notice the difference if going up hills in dual carriage ways...just driving in top gear you will see all cars stuggle to keep constant speed up a gradual hill ...not the vr.. thats due to the big torque of the 2.8lump. I can keep up with a guy's audi S3 at work and its faster than the latest golf gti. It may not be "much" faster than your old 16

Only if you have an early golf VR... i.e an obd1, M/N reg or earlier. Otherwise you won't be able to fit a Corrado tb to a newer obd2 golf vr. Corrados are all obd1. If you do have an early obd1 golf VR then a throttle body upgrade is a good idea as well as BMC induction kit and freerer flowing exhaust system plus Stealth's remap. Should all net around 10bhp. None of this will work on the later obd2 golf vr as they came with a more advanced ECU and totally different throttle body set up. That's why remaps/chips on obd2 vr's are pointless unless you have big mods. It's also a reason why a st

If it wasn't working properly when you got it back from the garage get the garage to fix them for you... for free too, as you didn't have any of these problems before handing your car over to them. It's the law! Which garage was it, so you can help us in case we use them too?

Sounds very good mate...excellent mileage for its age! Has it been serviced every year (as I would assume it has covered less than 10k miles a year, in which case it would need to have been serviced every year)?
-
By engine history what do you mean? In case it's not the original engine that was in the car so want to know more about it? If that's the case not sure mate. I suspect VW "should" have the potential to help you too on that if you gave them the engine number etc ..not sure though.
-
Surely it shouldn't matter what is in the left hand side of the plate where the "D" or "GB" would be. I've seen some websites that can allow you to have a small "VW" logo in that same space - so would that too be illegal even though the rest of the plate is reflective etc, proper font, totally standard? Most plates (apart from newer cars) don't have anything at all in that left space.

Not good at all. Total knee jerk reaction, instead of finding out the root of the problem. In my opinion it is primarily lack of money from the government, but also the way government decide huge pay rises for the top managers and GP's etc. I couldn't believe it when I heard that most GP's earn at the very LEAST 104k a year (quoted from recent documentary). Only 10yrs ago they were on 30-40k a year. Huge price hike, and they have actually reduced all their hours, which I think is a good thing - but not to raise their pay at same time.. I could go and ask my boss to work less hours but as

Don't think this could easily be imitated - the African "George" clips are hilarious - the stuff he comes out with - "would you like a christmas tree in your bank account".. or "we need to steam clean your bank's vault but the money may get wet". One of the calls he made was actually to a bank manager and she got quite angry especially when he says the company he works for is "money removal plc". It's the accents that make it so believable and hard to copy. http://fonejacker.tv/steam_cleaning_the_vault.shtml http://fonejacker.tv/christmas_message.shtml

Yes... as long as you lower the compression and get the fuelling spot on.

116k is not a lot of miles. There's people on here who have turboed or supercharged cars on over 130k miles. As long as it has been serviced regularly every 10k miles and it runs really well you have nothing to worry about. Rebuild is definitely not needed unless you are going for big power over 350bhp, and even then you only need to lower the compression with a thicker head gasket, no need to actually rebuild the engine. Fuelling is the main issue to take care of. Supercharger will on average get 250-280bhp as just a bolt on so well within safe limits.

engine loses power in wet weather
matth76 replied to robsparky's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Sounds like coil pack. Could alternatively be loose spark plugs that haven't been tightened up properly (happened to me when my car had a "full" service at a vw main dealers who didn't do the job well !) or could be a faulty lead. If you're getting a strange noise from the exhaust then that does sound like a faulty coilpack. -
Totally normal mate. Nothing to worry about. As said above if you're not moving the average distance travelled per gallon used will be very low on all cars when using a trip computer.

The oil can make a difference. I found mine made more mpg (not sure how) when I started using Quantum Synta Silver 10w 40, which is the recommended make to use. Plus if you can get to a tesco that does it, try their tesco 99 ron super unleaded. It's far better than normal super unleaded which is normally 97 ron, but will make your engine run more efficiently and therefore have higher mpg. Could need a slight service or tune as worn out spark plugs will make your engine run less efficiently. If I cruise about 65-70mph (can't normally do much more anyway as there is so much traffic these day
-
Does sound like the coil pack. Could also be lamda sensor. A lamda fault may not necessarily show up on vag com. However you should know if your fuelling is very rich - normally a sign of a faulty lamda.

cheapest place for a vr6 middle exhaust box??
matth76 replied to motormadj's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
GSF is supposed to be very cheap for stock parts. Not sure of their contact details though. Someone on here will confirm them. -
Is this VERY strange? or am i stupid?
matth76 replied to motormadj's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Yes depending on year manufactured. It's not the chassis number you are thinking of? This will be unique to each car. -
Thanks Xyber. At least I know they exist. Pricey at £60, and that's discounted. Anyone here have one? Do you lose any sound quality with it?

Looks good and every single one of the games in the GTA series is excellent - you can play these games for months and only complete 10% of it... huge games. Only downside is I still have to get a PS3...and at the mo I can't see the value in it and there are very few games available for it that get my attention. GTA4 is the first though. Oh and I don't have a LCD tv ready for de HD. Anyone have an LCD but it only has one HDMI port? Can you get adapters or switches (like those scart switches you can get except for HDMI) so you can have multiple HD devices connected to your tv? Can't find any

£2100 for a 1.0 polo!! Which company is that with? Was it quite a new Polo? Age of car drastically affects the premium when you are young. Newer cars regardless of engine size will be much much more expensive. Thinking back when I was 17 to the age of 21 i was just a named driver on my mum's policy. To be honest ncb in your late teens early 20's won't make a huge difference - you'll save far more being a named driver as opposed to having it in your own name and having ncb. When I eventually got my own car it was a 1.0 metro.. drove like a dream...err not quite. I think the ins. was around

The acronym ones like HOOMVE, doovde, "puc" world crack me up! I like the LCD tiv ones - esp when he says is it ready for "de HUD"...meaning HD. It works well with his foreign accent making it believable. http://fonejacker.tv/hoomv.shtml

[poll] Should i sell the VR??? (plz read post b4 polling "no" :P )
matth76 replied to c4mbl's topic in General Chat
I would sell your polo runabout and use your vr as the daily driver. I do about the same miles as you each day but if you keep to 65-70mph in your VR on the way to work during the week you will see petrol consumption go up to 35mpg, which is better than most 2.0 cars. Actually running your "runabout" all adds up: - Tax, insurance, buying the car itself, and the diesel (which in this country is a fair bit more expensive than petrol - most of europe its cheaper!) plus servicing costs - all this adds up. I voted for you to keep the VR but only if you get rid off the runabout. As robvr6 said -
2000X Golf IV V6 4Motion (Highline) has lost 36bhp???
matth76 replied to Gunx's topic in Syncro, R32 and 4motion
Get another rolling road test done - ideally at Stealth - you can temporarily make the haldex 4wd system 2wd and get a rolling road session done at 2wd garages. Vince, the owner will know how to do this. It is nororiously difficult to get good power readings from the wheels of haldex system cars because of the way power is distributed via the system. I read an article about this. Might get a much better power reading if the haldex is temporarily switched to 2wd. Stealth's rolling road is the most widely used amongst us vr6 owners. If it wasn't a faulty rolling road session then it could be -
Must be the HGP twin turbo conversion or similar. Serious money involved but then you do get enzo beating acceleration... 0-60 is quoted at just 3.2 secs for the twin turbo conversion on the R32!

Anyone seen this program on E4, Thur at 10.30pm? http://fonejacker.tv/hoomv.shtml and another clip: http://fonejacker.tv/christmas_message.shtml Some of the clips are hilarious. Check out some of the clips in the link on the right hand side of the page - there's also some on youtube.

matth76 replied to motormadj's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Should be the same - it refers to the engine "part number". Not sure what the vr6 lump number is but someone on here should be able to confirm it.
