Two weeks ago this friday a guy backed his 4x4 into my car which was parked on the opposite side of the road opposite his driveway. Luckily he left his number on my windscreen .. guess there are some good guys out there. Anyway I had a chat with him (he's a neighbour of mine) and he seemed really genuine and totally admitted it was his fault etc. I've got a photo copy of his ins. certificate etc. The whole of my rear wheel arch on the driver side was totally caved in up to the petrol cap. It's not drivable. Thankfully it didn't go any further but it will need a whole new panel etc.. not g

VR6 Highline - Tuning/Styling (where to go and what to get done)
matth76 replied to Mr.G's topic in General Chat
I like the sound of the M3... was it the E36 or E46 version? What was the RB5 like to drive? That's basically top of the range impreza you can get...or is it the 22b? Very expensive, even now they're 20k for a 22b! I was thinking about getting an impreza as my next car ..only thing that puts me off an impreza is the fact it's only a 2ltr (despite all the power from the turbo I think I would always long for a bigger engine... now I've driven a 2.8). The M3 is a 3.2 or 3.3 ltr engine isn't it, with a flat six cylinder arrangement similar to the Porsche 911? Funny how the VR got such bad revi -
60mm will be very low mate. I personally had the GMAX kit (dampers and springs) fitted which uses gas dampers and advertises a 35mm drop but I've measured it and it is more like 45mm and suits the car perfectly - not too low to be impracticle (if you drive slowly down ramps or speedbumps) but much more aggressive (I have the vw deep front spoiler fitted) and looks how it should have done from the factory. gmax is very cheap too (which puts a lot of people off thinking it is cr*p quality... not so at all and the phirm recommend them - they fitted mine). Well worth it mate.

New Tyres for Standard VR Wheels
matth76 replied to Andy Mac's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
I've just had 4 BF Goodrich G-Force Profilers fitted. My car used to veer slightly to the left when driving (even with all the tracking / alignment done)... now my car drives in a straight line and the feedback from cornering and general driving has really improved. Really recommend them. They look good too. I have the same wheels as you - the standard multispoke bbs ones (i personally prefer them to the solitudes). Here's a link to the tyres I have: http://www.bfgoodrich.co.uk/bfguk/front/affich.jsp?codeRubrique=4&codePage=BFG_PAG_PRODUCT1〈=EN By the way 5 out of the 6 main ralley t -
Will my 93 VR6 pass an MOT with a cat bypass pipe fitted?
matth76 replied to Wush's topic in Engine Tuning
If it doesn't have a cat it will fail - I believe the law is all cars made from '92 onwards have to have a cat. -
From my own experience I gained a slight bit of torque... possibly 5-10 lbs/ft but no extra bhp. If anything I have found mine a hassle as it got a slight blow in it (only very slight and doesn't affect performance in any way) and its a good quality one with proper joints etc and I have Vibra tech engine mounts, all to prevent blows but made no difference, however if I was going to do it again I wouldn't have bothered. The gain hasn't been worth it in my opinion but that is my own opinion, mainly down to the fact that they are so prone to getting blows. I've been told by a reputable speciali

Yeah my Milltek exhaust had a funny smell (wouldn't say it was a burning smell but was very odd) for the first 100 miles or so. Perfectly normal. No you don't have to do anything with the ECU. It will self learn the new settings automatically. The new exhaust should make it look and sound better! What exhaust did you go for?
-
Not worth it mate. Will make very little difference.

Cheers mate. Same as mine then.

Hi Just had a look in the boot and there are a lot of codes on the white sticker. I can see a code "near" where it says paint code but need to be sure it is the correct code. It says: "LC5L---- ---- XH" Seems a very odd code and has a lot of dashes in the middle of it. Is the code just "LC5L" or all of it up to the XH bit? I've been told my car is mystic blue but also "pearlescent blue". Not sure which though. It has a purple tint in the sunshine but dark blue normally. Thanks for any help.

You're a genius mate... just went out and did as you describe..took less than 30 secs. Thanks for all your help guys.

Thanks for your reply. I cant release the tabs. Need to know if there is a special way of releasing them...do i start from the middle or start near the wheels... do i have to try to bend the clips downwards or something? Anyone done this before? cheers for any help

Hi I have removed the three nuts on each side of the car to remove the bit of plastic (splash guards) just to the front of the tyres. Now I just need to "unclip" the front spoiler. However there seems to be no easy way of doing it...without breaking the plastic. Is there a special technique to unclipping the spoiler? I have tried various combinations of movements like holding it down, tilting it up, moving it sideways, pulling it outwards, but it won't budge...really worried the plastic is going to crack with the force I'm pulling it.. can't be doing it right. Need to take the front spoile

Hi tony Thanks for your reply. It's done about 45k miles. Yeah it's a 3 cylinder. Warranty just expired unfortunately. Would exhaust valves be an easy job to sort!? I know a local mechanic who could do it cheaply (family mate) if it's fairly simple to do. Car is drivable but just drives like a tractor. gf needs car to get to work. Will continuing to drive it cause any damage or make it worse? Cheers

Hi My gf has a new (53 reg) 1.2 polo (not a vr6 I know but someone on here may know what the following problem could be). Today the "exhaust emissions warning" light started flashing and the car is all juddery... at idle and at speeds up to 60. Above that it gets smoother. The exhaust vibrates a lot. The car has absolutely no oomph like it used to. Any ideas? I suspect it could be the MAF or lambda sensor/oxygen sensor...if it has either. It certainly seems to be some kind of sensor related problem. Could possibly be a vacuum leak but unlikely or something to do with the cat. Car was run

Insurance for a vr6 "conversion" will actually be a lot more than for a proper VR6. Are you sure you want to get this car... How much is it advertised for? A very good VR can be had for £2500-£3k. Even if the car you're interested in is £1k less than this you will be paying far more once you add the insurance on top. Plus if you get this car it will always be at the back of your mind that it's not a "proper" vr6 if you get this gti-vr6 conversion. Having third party fire and theft makes no difference to the insurance company coming out and inspecting the car. They will always come out

21 and driving a 4 motion... must cost a load mate for insurance. How much does that set you back fully comprehensive? Nice car by the way... have fun !

I use my VR on a daily basis. It's so smooth and a real pleasure to drive mate. You won't regret getting one. It's reliable and fast which is good. Maintenance is no different to any other car (service costs are exactly the same as any other car - only thing that costs a lot is if the timing chains need doing which is a normal maintenance issue and only needs doing around the 80-100k mile mark but only needs doing if the noises are there - sometimes never need doing - its just like a cambelt really - one of those things that needs doing) - only extra expense is tyres really but at £50-65

Which company is doing your conversion? They sound pretty good. Just noticed your car is LHD which is a good thing - that is normally the costly thing for us on RHD cars getting the turbo kit converted for RHD. So it's an ATP turbo kit - does this include a front mount intercooler or wing mounted? Do you know how long it is expected to take? Keep us up to date mate. By the way what's an FMU? Is that something to do with fuelling or the ecu? Are you using a standalone ecu or remapping the stock one?

Hey, not fair! How come my golf's engine dosent have vr6 written on it?
matth76 replied to Wush's topic in General Chat
Pretty sure the earlier vr's don't have it written on the cover - it says DOCH (can't remember what else is next to it). I've only seen this cover on the earlier VR's ...I'm assuming you have this cover? The later vr's have "2.8 VR6" as mine does. Nothing to worry about. A cover is relatively easy to swap over. -
If I were you badboy I'd ring up Stealh Racing. They are very near you if you're in the west midlands. A guy called Vince owns Stealth and is an expert when it comes to tuning the VR to its limits etc. Very experienced (one of the best in the UK too and very good value). He will tell you where to best spend your money and where not to bother. Basically if you already have 210bhp you are at the limits of the tuning that can be done without going the forced induction route or spending huge money on more n/a tuning methods. In my own experience a stainless steel six branch exhaust manifold

Anyone have link to mark 4 R32 review on Top Gear
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in General Chat
Cheers mate. I'll take a look. No doubt it's a VR with horrible standard suspension. Should have tested one with uprated suspension. If anyone does know of a link to the top gear review about the mk3 vr6 please let us know. -
Guy wants to respray mulberry to JAzz blue!!! on ed38

Totally agree. -
A mate at work has an Audi S3 (the later one with 220bhp as opposed to 210) and his car has pretty much the same performance as mine. He was impressed with my VR. It's down to the power to weight ratio. The s3 weights 200kg more but with only 20-30bhp more. The S3 may have the edge off the line due to the 4wd but once going no difference at all. He has raced a mate of his in a new focus st and it was pretty even - therefore so going by that a VR in good shape with ~190 bhp will have similar perfomance to the ST too. The focus ST weighs over 1300kgs so is a lot heavier than the VR (nearly
