  1. I think, (off the top of my head), that someone has done it with a 24v crank that way around which would be the same as the 12v, usually it's other way around, not sure on comp without doing the math. You're thinking about using a V6 4mo map on a mk5 R32 for FI! Let me know the ins and outs of the ecu so you don't end spending a fortune on that side.
  2. You'll be surprised though, that's why I'm asking. I've been seeing nice mk1's and 2's going for £6-8k on stock engine good nick but not even showroom condition. These type's of conversions were £6k for a 150hp one pretty much when I was doing them 5-10 years ago and even now they seem to still be £4k+ and we're trying to work out some decent costings as they're getting loads of interest - thought I would look for an impartial VR owner view point! I think figures bandied about are like £3k for a 150/180 to £3.5k or so for a ko4 set-up, I can map them up to a Stage 1 too for like £
  3. Been tuning the old 1.8T this past week for some of the local VAG crew. They've done quite a few "old skool" 20vt conversions now and want to get into doing it full time. Was wondering what people would think was a reasonable price for a conversion and say, price of a rebuilt old skool car with a 20vt conversion?(i.e. re-painted, checked/replaced consumables etc). Was shocked by this price, even more so as it's a left hooker! Surely no-one would pay that or am I out of touch with things?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180hp-VW-GOLF-Mk1-20vT-Jagermeister-/3616568
  4. What kits? Plenty on Google! Parts - Garrett and Borg-Warner EFR are probably the best ones, Holset are good cheap alternatives preferred by most, Turbonetics and Precision popular state-side too plus cheap Chinese and some good Japanese ones on ebay! Main problem will be the tune, mk4 12v's were not offered here from the factory, US market's and use ME7.1 ecu so rare to find FI tunes for them although they're not massively different, some good DIY threads on Motronic tuning forums in US on these files; thread with ecu details for DIY Tunerpro tuning; http:/
  5. What do you want to know? Serious boost you want the engine stripped bare, take it to a machine shop, have them magnaflux/check for cracks first and foremost, once deemed okay then have it align honed, cylinders bored/honed as required, ARP/Coated parts where necessary like bearings, studs/bolts etc. Forged rods and pistons, Pauter or IE probably for rods, Wiseco/JE for pistons, stock cranks usually good enough. Head, well, X Parts are running 1100+hp on stock head with cams but on a used engine I would look at HD springs in case of valve float with high rpm and up to you on moddin
  6. Seems it was a mk2;
  7. I've been trying to sort a decent DIY turbo kit out recently for in-between £2-3k but those are for mk4's - I've had a few of you come to me with 12v's using the Holset HX35/40's and most of you build them for under £4k, really depends how much work you want to do yourself. There's a few local VAG lads here pushing nigh on 300hp on 20vt Corrado's/ mk1 Scirocco's etc for well under £2k all in, but doing everything in-house themselves and I sort the maps as I owe them free work, so it doesn't have to cost a bomb to do it well. If I was you and with you being a Scooby owner you'd pref

    12v turbo

Holset HX35 seem popular for a cheaper journal bearing alternative, dealt with a few that have gone that route - rest of the turbo and DIY guides are stickied above in the forum and most of what you need there. I'd say Stealth for a map and yep, 440 green giants or whatever they are calling them nowadays are good - just make sure you get proper bosch ones. As for 400hp, without lowering compression you'll probably have to spend a lot on the mapping, maybe a 7/8 psi tune on stock but above that - very fine tuning or knock will arise due to high comp - usually cheaper getting a spacer plate!
  9. I aim for 11.8:1 on WOT, Porsche's is same, proper Motronic tuning is different to usual aftermarket systems, latest angle in ignition amongst other things, had many buyers of aftermarket systems ask these things, Nef Moto probably has more answers..... but aim for 11.8:1 on WOT and stoich on lift off/idle if poss, real time is always best, log n monitor and so on...
  10. Look in "classifieds" - lot's of money usually to post abroad, I've done some engine parts and had some of them buy things so long as they sort out the post; the link; https://www.vr6oc.com/forum/forums/forum/101-for-sale/
  11. There were some reported problems with the 400, too high a flowing unit for low flow rates, surge etc - you not experienced any of that?
  12. TT and 24V work differently in the ecu. Open position you are talking about should be the torque position if I understand you correctly (long length tract = torque) - before the power position (short tract).

    Mr.

Welcome - can be mechanical or software based I suppose - get it on diagnostics to see if it's software problem or it can pinpoint it - if not, it'll be a case of changing the mechanical parts or stripping it to see what the problem is!
  14. People need to understand the sheer depth of "professional mappers" they speak to - many use a re-seller file from either their software manufacturer or their suppliers and these bigger companies or dyno operators often don't have the time to specialize in one particular ecu unless you pay for it - even I would pass one of the older Motronic 12V ecu's over to Vince if I didn't have weeks or months to reverse engineer one myself or someone didn't want to pay for a complete custom job on their stock ecu, simply because he has done that many so I know has various boost files ready etc. Also,
  15. Monster spec! You'll have to keep it stock looking and take it out on the road to embarrass some supercars! I think these guys do all the big hp box work over in Germany, some of the 8 second lot reference them; https://www.facebook.com/doc.drehmoment.official 5/6th gear supports and billet shafts etc seem to crop up now and again and on the German forums. Have you got or are getting a harmonic damper too?

  17. Info is in the turbo thread, you want to aim for something at least 500hp rated due to displacement. GTX30R or EFR7163 would likely be the best. GT30R would be a bit cheaper and then T3/04 hybrids cheaper still but can get journal or ball bearing ones. Budget no option - one of the first two - 0.63ar or so on the turbine will give you quick spool but choke up top, 0.82ar good allrounder preferred by most and anything higher is probably not best for what you seem to be aiming for. So, it's a case of quick spool less top end 0.63 or good throughout the rev range 0.82 if you go that r
  18. Lol, that's an understatement if ever there was one. If you want to know what's in your ecu then download the winols demo and put this file into it and knock yourself out in Google translate changing it from German to English; https://app.box.com/s/ez5rjyhb0twoz95egj8vi3wcjdnewfo9
  19. Not necessarily, you strip the functional logic to it's bare bones you can essentially make it do what you want in that respect, switching off the codewords in the map areas that use the rear 02 for example to "off" 00, from "on" 01, or; Take, for example, placing the two probes into one downpipe - this caused LTFT problems as the ecu expects to see two different readings but when placed together like that they are generally identical. It then confuses the ecu and so it adapts to make it logical again which eventually causes it to go out of sync as it keeps adapting further and fur
  20. If you're following this then here's a nice easy way to start learning what's on your ecu - this is a demo for mk4 owners but similar principles for any car, just what files you can get. So, if you want to learn what's on the mk4 ecu's (or some of it anyhow), here's what you can do; First, get the demo version of winols here; https://www.evc.de/en/download/down_winols.asp I did this very quick def file for a guy on Nefmoto with a BDF car (same as our BDE twin VVT V6's) so we'll use that - some of it is English and some in German as I used various files
  21. And it's by far the most popular one you lot ask for with me! Strange they've done that? I spoke to my sales rep and told him that some of you are looking for them but he's not got back to me yet, if there's a few of you asking maybe they'll get them back in?
  22. Looks like a good time was had by all! Shame it's a bit of a trek for me, one day maybe?
