Spadam's vr6 build thread (For Sale)
gavinvr6 replied to spadam's topic in Members Rides and Event Photos
cars looking good adam, kinda makes me wanna resurect my one. especially as i cant find a replacement car for my funds, flogging the vr will go a long way towards another car, even if it is sold for spare's or repairs lol -
my bro was running a galaxy vr6 with the auto box, the box was constantly crapping about, first g/box ecu then it started slipping then not changing gears, i'd say go along the ordinary obd2 tuning routes of a zorst re-map and filter first then save up and whack a turbo conversion on it for 350+bhp mini bus fun

do a search fella, i think this has been covered a few times on here, there is a good eaton/vr combi in euroland i beleive but the work involved aint worth the hassle if i remember right

fecking hell, stiky fingered arseholes. sorry to hear it. but put simply the tosser are just jelous of your schweeet ride Nat

im a drain/sewer blockage engineer for the water board. think dyno-rod but i actually know what im doing

when i do my car only 3 or 4, including rev counter actually do anything. #6 just flashed then goes to 5 as do a coupld of others. and the maf one dont work on mine either, cant get anything to come up

ok so twin tb on a custom mani is tricky, puttin g the maf somewhere with a y peice tb side to feed to each tb, but then it would probably mean the maf sitting over the rocker cover with the filter where the original tb now sit's just to keep things balanced and evenly fed, not very good for cold air flow though. could it not be run maf-less like some of the s/c or turbo set up's? i like ajmk2's design, thats kinda what i had in mind but with a tb either end. a box section/tube to fit onto the original lower inlet
-
right guys this is probably a dumb question but i'll ask anyway. is it possible to build a short runner style inlet mani but have it draw air from left and right, ie so an air filter sits belt end and chain end. im thinking something similar in appearence to a short runner but not tapered. woyuld this cause the centre 2 cylinders on the intake to run lean like if a short runner wasnt tapered making the last 2 run lean? im sure witha bit of bodgery pokery myself and my welder could fab either a tube or some decent box section into the correct length and create a lower inlet mani adaptor. but w

ooooo i like this. im doing mine tonight, does it stay on there constantly or do you have to re do it everytime you start the car? i love new toys he he he

the spark is rated at roughly 20kv, this i know. i understand the need for correct size spark and also understand that the stock coil should be changed not tried to force more through it, otherwise companies like msd wouldnt exist. this is not a thread to figure out a way to force more volts out of my coils as i know that it will max out, probably just above 20kv and just melt it's internals, the question im trying to get answer's to is how the signla from the ecu is amplified from whatever it is upto the 20kv, more for an understanding than a way of trying to get better spark, i have always

thought they was bout 20k i know they hurt i took a whack off one a little while ago. high performance coil packs can be 60k volts so if i get this right by doubling the input voltage the output voltage would double, but only if the coil is able to ramp it that high other wise regardless of how many volts i put in its limited the the coils ability to multiply the signal. as its basically a voltage multiplier any automotive sparky types who have tried a modified input voltage that can answer this?

Effect gain with 2.9 inlet and cams on a 2.8?
gavinvr6 replied to Danny Salling's topic in Engine Tuning
i dont no much about this type of this but if mild cams are 268 this makes em 20 degrees more/higher, however its done. so 2.9's being an extra 10 degree's 'ish' would make em slightly better than 2.8's in a 2.8 also the throttle body argument was had not to long ago, i have an obd1 coil pack engine, it has exactly the same throttle body as a corrado, when my original engine was swapped out i used a low milage obd2 and fitted my obd1 set up. the obd2 tb is much smaller than the obd1, by about 10mm. i know because i looked at them side by side when i was trying to smooth out the internals in b -
right guy's i get the principle behind a coilpack but can someone please confirm thing's or correct me if im wrong. the way i see it is: ecu send's a signal to the ignition control module that then sends it to the relevent coil. this signal being say 1.5v, the coil inside the coil pack then amplifies the signal to the 20 thousand volts or what ever it is that gets sent to the plug to create the spark. would sending a stronger signal to the coil of say 3v cause the amplified signal to increase relevent to the multiplication of the 1.5v signal or woould that involve one of these high power coil'

Lowering just the front???
gavinvr6 replied to dru's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
i can answer this with 100% knowledge since i actually have my car on coil overs at the front set at about -80mm and standard rear suspension. firstly the front end will tighten up a treat and it will improve turn in quite nicely. secondly the rear end then becomes to soft in relation to the front and it makes it a little lively under hard cornering. thirdly hard accelerating will promote rear end squat if you do not stiffen the rear to match. this is not wanted in a fwd car as it causes the front to go light and it will start spinning easier. forthly and the most important of them all is havi -
cant get top mount screw off front strut
gavinvr6 replied to hanadaz_06's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
if your not planning on re-using the old suspension grip the shock shaft with locking grip's or something similar and use a wheel breaker bar with impact socket on the strut nut. at worst you'll actually snap the top off the strut where the nut is, but atleast it's removed -
IS IT POSIBLE TO INCREASE VR6 12V IDLING SPEED FROM 650RPM TO 900RPM?
gavinvr6 replied to faigolfgti's topic in Engine Tuning
increase idle speed to improve city driving??? sorry to sound pedantic or sarcastic but wouldnt just squeezing the accelerator a little harder do the job? -
re'ss another strange twist. am i right in saying that an obd1 cam sensor has a white plug and a fly lead and that an obd2 cam sensor does not have a fly lead? i wwas given a cam sensor for my vr, obd1. and it's different to the one i have instaled. i got some frankenstein shit going on with my engine lol

hmm will have to go see the phirm about this ecu issue if no-one here can answer. i think they are in farnham so i could visit em whilst im at work. was hoping i could sort it without having to go to a specialist tho since specialist cost special money lol if your just in s'hampton you should pop over to southsea at some point. there is a small vw group there im part of and were always looking for new members. and we only have a grand total of 3 vr's lol

well was local to me when i was in south london. wont mention any names coz i got my butt chewed by admin for ripping into the idiot but basically a 2 day max job that was supposed to be a straight forward rado swap see me with out a car for 4 weeks and just a 70k 2.8 from an obd2 fitted. and 1500 of my hard earned down the bog. and the cheeky git tried to rack up some extra charges for the extra work he had to do, like replace my ecu he fried and fitting a rado inlet and tb when it was supposed to be a rado bloody engine. lol. the term not happy bunny is an understatement since moving to pomp

a while ago i had an engine swap done, i was told i had an obd2 engine block/head fitted with my obd1 ancilleries attatched to that making it obd1. my original engine was obd1 coil pack and i still have a obd1 coil pack engine. only thing is i removed the scuttle tray to chase some wires the other day and found 2.9 hand written on my ecu. now the car has a rado inlet mani and tb fitted but a 2.9 ecu on a 2.8 coil pack engine cant be right. i know when the engine was fitted the idiot who done the work had problems getting it to run right but he apparently enlisted the help of an ecu 'expert' to

Rear brake upgrade....possibly
gavinvr6 replied to jesterwalker69's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
how much are the brake lines? also why are banjo fittings needed? do the original lines not screw in? my calipers have been sitting in my cupboard for age's and i really need to fit em as my o/s has seized yet again on the hand brake.that's 2 calipers in 3 years with same problem and i fitted a new one last time -
How many VR6's were sold in the UK?
gavinvr6 replied to VR6Pete's topic in Frequently Asked Questions
good to see mine is one of only 1001 golf vr6's sold in 1993. my year is almost an endangered species now lol makes interesting readin especially the 1 year gap of 0 sales for vr6's then just one sold in 2000. where do these figures come from? -
dont do it adam. keep the vr, chrge it and love it. i dont care what anyone say's, there is not a single car on the market id rather have to listen to when im driving than a vr6. the sound of the induction, the sound of the exhaust, the power delivery, the relentless surge that effortlessly goes all the way to the red line, do i need to continue? vr6 all the way baby, even if this one has to go i couldnt live without that engine in my life lol. my next project car is going to be a vr6 powered mpv, be it an alhambra a sharan or even the v6 powered galaxy, and as day camper thats capable of chas

sorry but you are all wrong. the best biscuit to dunk can only be a ginger snap in coffee

first once you have seated the lead to the plugs flip the tool over and use the thin end to make sure the leads are driven all the way home, also find someone with a coil pack engine and swap the packs out. my vr6 was mis-firing and pinking real bad it sounded like small end bearings rattling. anyway i changed plugs and leads and it got slightly better then i took the plung and fitted yet another coil pack and its all sorted again. coil packs are a pain in the arse, aint no cheap way to fix em gotta replace the whole thing. mine was only 2 yrs old and looked in perfect condition and was weak
