  1. fuckin sweet guys, im trying to find a hub nut/drive shaft socket at the moment so it's easier to take out the whole thing in one go. got doc's at 5.20 i think so should be ready to start by 6. just need the lump lifted out and put in the garage for now. but i need to undo some bits and bobs still as monday will be my first day on it for a couple of weeks and the last lot of work was swapping the brakes/rear beam and malarky. does someone have a long reach bar to get at the rear mounts. the only raeson i ask is the tosser who fitted my engine done everything up with air tools. i could get a sm
  2. pos i finally managed to do a mk2vr conversion neg i aint got a fucing clue what im doing, only have a handful of basic spanners/sockets and am crapping myself ha ha ha rock on tommy
  3. expect to pay close to 1500 quid for isurance, 1st car and yound wont let you get away with less then fully comp. so youd be nearer 2 grand just on insurance. add 2 grand for a decent car. 80 quid a week for fuel. 100 a year for much needed rac cover and your at 5 grand in your first year. i paid 1300 for a 113k car that had full history and spent 5 grand over 4 years constantly fixing it. now its getting stuffed into a mk2
  4. cheers fella that would be great i'll pm it to you when i get in from work as in a rush at the moment
  5. yeah. ive unhooked all the loom i think. just need to undo the engine mounts and downpipe. oh and free up the drive shafts. hmmm i think monday may be optomistic as i need to find a socket to undo the hub nuts first and moday will be my next availible day
  6. any one free monday evening for a couple of hours? need the engine pulled from the mk3 so i can get at the loom and brake master and steering rack. just need it lifted out and put in the back of the garage for now until i get everything else sorted out and find the cash for a front mount and clutch cable kit or rado pedal box
  7. for rust look under the rear arch's, leading and trailing edges as water gets under the uderseal, rear arch covers can and do allow the water to sit so can cause issue's. obviously seals will need to be double checked. over than that it will be panel rust like bottom of front wings and door bottoms, the boot plinth is a prime place for water to sit and cery common. also im aware of a couple that have gone around the lower edge of the front screen. you can also get rust under the rubber roof strips. i found a 1" hole where water had gathered around one of the mounting points on the a-pillar,
  8. paul can you do mk2 conversion front mounts as well? the guy who does em on mk2vr6 is taking for ever to get back to me and its holding up my progress. need one to fit standard mk2 crossmember if its possible.
  9. dunno bout cheap insurance im 33 and pay 450 a year fully comp with ten yrs no claims and a clean licence. thats bloody expensive.
  10. have signed up under same user name as ere, am currently in talks with duff about a front mount but nobody has a pedal box, may just go cable operated for now and then swap em over when i can find a hydro one
  11. yes please anna, i wanna go solid mount as im not interested in comfort, although it is a small bumper 5 door and will for all intent and purpose stay looking grandad like its simply my fun car, or will be when done, so not fussed about an extra bit of cabin shake or anything like that, the extra vibration from the engine all add's to the feel. if i dont keep it grandad like im gunna go max power stylee on it and give the impression it's just a boy racer in a 1.3cl
  12. i keep thinking about sensible, hence i have a 1.1 ltr pug 206 for family usage's and my vr6 is my toy. for when i have the need to go out and get rid of some frustration, a meaty vr6 and a twisty country lane windows down, foot on the floor and drive very angrilly
  13. Paul---mk3 pedal box requires modification, aka cutting and welding. i know someone who can do it for me but he's never availible when i am. im struggling to find a local pedal box, dont have credit or debit card so cant order from stevens by phone and to far to travel, i think im gunna use the cable method and put the mk2 pedals back in just to make life easy, then i can source the bits from gsf/tps or even vw if need be. should work out slightly cheaper that way too. im wrecking my own mk3vr to build the mk2 so will salvage as many parts as possible from that, if i can find a rado pedal box
  14. hopefully be able to make one of these once the mk2 conversion is done as im vr-less at present and to embarrassed to turn up in my 1.1l pug 206 daily lol
  15. im 33 looking 25 lucky me. despite my number plate reading oap lol. i keep getting told im to old to play with cars but i dont do footy or boozing so why not
  16. pm'd ya my number adam. tonight (thursday) was a wash out so no work done coz the misses took tooooo long cooking my bloody dinner. and no point doing much now. will be outside for a couple of hours friday night weather permitting, then most of the day saturday if i can actually figure out what im doing. ive removed the mk2 pedal box and steering column but am having probs locating a rado pedal box so may put it back in friday and go for cable operated for now. just need the correct cable to use. i know the clutch bit on the gearbox is seat item or i can buy a conversion kit from that place do
  17. you guys are brilliant, wasnt expecting such a posative response. im gunna be beavering away thursday and friday evening this week plus most of the day saturday if i can get hold of a pedal box and solid front mount by then, if not it will be rear beam swap front brakes and rack if i can get it out without taking the engine out the mk3 just yet, but can store it in the back of my little garage if need be to get ath the brake cylinder and other gubbins hidden round the back like the full loom so then i can fit that into the mk2 with the mk3 fuse box. i dont know much so am just stumbling along
  18. try this link. its on the rollers in this one, it sounds like a fecking plane tacking off
  19. hey guys and gals, some of you may be aware from other forums that im currently stripping my vr6 to do my first ever engine conversion into mk2 vr, (many parts for sale) trouble i have is i have about as much mechanical or technical aptitude as a chicken sanwhich. and the wiring just reminds me of a bowl of spag bol. can anyone help? im petrified that i'll ruin every thing and end up with 2 shite piles of scrap metal. the mk2 is currently sitting there with a mk3 vr6 front sub frame and no wiring loom or pedal box or brake master cylinder or fuse box or steering column as i intend to use all
  20. the best part was when the officer radio'd in and said 'total loss' aka were to slow to keep up lol. that rim was mullered big time he must of been running than thing hard
  21. how can you get the emissions down low enough to get it through the mot without a cat? thats the point of the cat, to reduce harmful emission's. seriously im interested coz im having mot issue's due to emissions and if the cat is screwed coz i been spitting fuel through it during a recent episode of mis-firing then my de-cat can go back on and i'll peg the emissions down your way
  22. what channel was it on? can u not go online to the channels on demand interweb watcher thingy and capture it that way?
  23. u guys are brilliant. thats a lot of work for such a short period, fancy doing my mk2 conversion in pompey for coffee cake a a few rounds on some of the misses 'nasty' friends
  24. no point mapping anything until u get the breathing right, filter zorst de-cat or sports cat depending on how nice ur mot bloke is and some cams if u wanna go that far then map it. otherwise if u just filter and exhaust then map it if you add cams at a later date u have to map it again to get the full benefit.
