  1. well irrespective of indicators and buzers, i can hear and feel when the oil is low. maybe im just getting a bit anal in my old age.
  2. ive found toyos possibly a bit soft for my liking, conti's are pretty good also.
  3. unfortunately its not qiute that simple with the v..r, becauce of the obsecure access to the spark plugs you have to use a special tool, a standard v.w one in plastic should be under your bonnet on your bonnet stay, but you can get a metal one, which makes it a lot easier.
  4. no real way of checking apart from just methodically looking at all pipes that carry water, also mate, if your gonno change a hose you will probably be better off going for a full set of samco hoses.
  5. that doesnt sound like anything major you couldnt get sorted out mate, depends on how much the car is up for.
  6. welcome back, you know what they say, there's no replacement for displacement!!
  7. you can pick up the engines from about £500:00 or so mate, but theres nothing to gaurantee the chains on the new engine wont go!!! so its best to do them before you drop the new engine in, that again will push the price up.
  8. no dude, the standard wheel looks like its off a bloody bus!!
  9. Went down to the phirm last week, tim modded my gear linkage and i was just wondering if anyone else has had it done, i think the difference is fantastic.
  10. yeah i have checked and filled mine up religiously since my engine rebuild, and the light never comes on!! but mine drinks about half a litre of oil every 1000 miles, so just make sure u check it more often.
  11. 1, Nissan Cherry 1.3 g.s 2, Nissan Bluebird 1.6 saloon 3, NissanBluebird 1.8 g.s hatchback 4, Vauxhall Cavalier G.S.I 2000 16v 4x4 5, Audi A4 1.9 T.D.I SE 6, Renault Laguna d.c.i 7, Ford Mondeo t.d.c.i 8, As above, different color ( wont ever underestimate common rail turbo diesel technology again!!) 9, Toyota Corrola v.v.t.i 10, Honda Prelude, 2.0 16v 11, Vw Golf VR6 Highline.......say no more!!!
  12. yeah, i do about £200:00 to £250:00 a month, thats fine, i would have purchased a g.t.i if i wantd more feul economy. but also the figures you guys are giving me, sre these what the computer is reading? because when i say 20 m.p.g. thats putting in £40:00 of v-power, it gives me approx 160 miles, that is fine, but i dont want it to go much below that.
  13. hi huys and gals, surprise , surprise, im into my 9th month of v.r ownership, and im clucking for more power, i know the engine can handle it, and methinks it will be worth the money just to piss off all the jap and m power boys and girls!! thing is my v.r is a daily driver, i do approx 1000 to 1300 miles a month, at the moment the cars had mild mods, gives me about 20 to the gallon, thats a mixture of some running around local side streets, and going around the north circular rd to work and back 40 odd miles. thing is i dont really want the fuel consumption to go much above this, as then its
  14. you need the bentley manual mate, do a search on here or google, im sure you will find it, but be carefull, piston rings isnt an afternoon with your hammer job, but your mates right, what better way to learn? but just be carefull (especially if its your everyday car)
  15. Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows if 7 x 16 alloys with et 31 will fit straight on a 96 vr6?
  16. i had my engine rebuilt a few months ago, had f**k all confidence in the mechanic who had the car, (my timing chains blew, so i got the car to a local garage) he tried giving me the old "we wont know till its apart" rubbish!!, the head needed welding, but he wasnt interested in doing any actual labour intensive porting and polishing, probably wouldnt have changed all the valves, i told him to just quote me on the stripdown and rebuild, he said £1200:00, i got the head done from an engineering firm in kent who charged me £650:00,but this was for all new stems, followers, valves, ported and po
  17. My mates got an old c plate shed that hes had forever, we may try and get it on the road over the summer, now the plan was oroginally a fairly simple vr conversion, but ive seen a few R32 lumps going fairly cheap on fleebay recently, so i was just wondering if anyone here has actually done this conversion themselves, i know storm developments have a charged one, but were gonno do this ourselves so i would appreciate any advice regarding ease or difficulty of this conversion.
  18. mines got a stage 1 flowed head, temp has been at about 90 to 93, in normal driving recently, but krept up a bit over the last couple of days while sitting in london to about 95, only been upto about 104 when it hit about 135 on a private road last week.
  19. its wallies like that giving us all a bad name, i think this individual needs some serious councilling, its not tony blair golf is it!!!lol
  20. it does all depend on your budget, if your gonno get the t.d.i, make sure its a 6 speed, its much better then the 5 speed, 150 gt, tdis are still holding a lot of money, yes as long as your not completely nuts, also we can all check our average speed readings, i live and commute to and from work in my vr, and its stuck on 20 m.p.h over the last 2000 miles, no matter how much i boot it. the tdi will keep up with a standard vr upto about 100 m.p.h comfortably, but bear in mind your paying double or maybe triple the amount for the acrual car. also chipping them is relatively easy, but always fact
  21. i agree with bugzy, thats exactly what ive had done on mine, on the advice of racepower engineering down in kent, they rebuillt my head, gas flowed, port matching e.t.c, and recommended not too much carnage in the t.b to maintain good midrange responce.
  22. no im not looking for silly wide rims, my mates just put some 9.5 x 16 put on his vr with 30mm springs only, and he cant drive it it with anyone in the back. im putting on f.k. coilovers, with probably about a 30 mm drop, coz of all the speed humps where i live, but my cars a daily driver and i didnt want to sacrifice and handling or torque by using adapters, so i should be fine, thanks for the advice.
  23. u need to drill the holes below where the air filter sits, and yes, stick in as many as you can, so it does look like a piece of cheese.
  24. hi, i was just wondering if there are any negative effects on the cars handling or traction when fitted with porsche rims and adapters? any advice would be appreciated.
