  1. Hopefully my worse fears will be eliminated by those in the know. Over the last few days Ive noticed that im getting a groaning, grating sound from the timing chain side of the engine. At one point it started to squeal abit. Ive got it into my head that its the Big End Bearing but maybe overreacting. It has done just over 123000 miles. If it is the Big End then should I cut my losses and get rid/replace the engine? Many Thanks
  2. Noticed that my car was smelling a bit funny. Have known that my heater control is knackered and decided to change the air vent fins. As I put my fingers in they came out with oil on. Had a look in the engine bay, seems pretty clean, no oil leaks. Had a look in air filter, no dirtier than normal. Any ideas on how this got in there?
  3. Things are going down hill very quickly for my VR6. The Drivers seat has broken in to and wont stay up right. Does anyone have any good places that be recommended to sort out a new leather seat. Obviously the sooner I lay my hands on one the better as I do use it when Im off duty to respond to 999 calls. 1st VR6 with a blue light? All help is greatly recieved.
  4. Hi, Its been a while since Ive been on here, but I need some advice. Could someone help me by giving me a step by step guide to changing my steering wheel? Cheers in advance for any help.
  5. Mine only seems to do it if its really cold or been sat idle for a few days......all my golfs both Mk2 & 3 have done it at some point.
  6. evntually got to the bottom of this today.. took the beast into a VW garage for a service and go them to have a look at the misfire. Turns out it was a dodgy earth on the hall sender and idle stablisation valve so not a big job at all. Now with new oil, plugs and this sorted, its fooking flying!!!!!!!!!
  7. i put new leads on when i last pressure tested the engine.......... im all the way down in Cornwall.
  8. yeah I put redex in about 500 miles ago
  9. Hi guys. Thougt I would come and ask for your advice again, as you did so well with the last problem I had.!!! Ok so the problem is a big miss fire (ocassionally) especially if I start the car when it is already warm. 9/10 when I start from cold its sound, but if I stop and then come back say 10 min later it really does kangaroo up until 2000-2500 rpm. Then after that you can feel it holding back sometimes. Its seems the more revs you give it the better it becomes. A mate suggested that the Ecu or should that be coil pack is on its way out? Plugs do need a change as it is due its 20000 mile s
  10. Im have the same problem at the moment mate. Pressure slightly down on the back cylinders, but been told it aint much to worry about. Have done a combustion which was all clear. Most likely been told that it is probably the thermo playing up. So looking at this and the replys then it sounds similar. Hope it all goes ok.
  11. So back to the original bit......... is it unusual for the back Cylinders to start boring themselves out?
  12. A bit of a long reply but I hope it helps. Have you changed your thermostat recently? If not I'd start there. If its only opening partially then it could be the cause of your water pressure and strange overheating problems. Hot & cold top & bottom hoses is a sure sign of poor circulation. As for the compression' date=' did you do a cylinder leak test or compression test where you turn the engine over with the key? In the past I found these to be a bit innacurate. I have more faith in a cylinder leak test where compressed air is pumped into each cylinder individually when the piston i
  13. Ovet the years my Sterring wheel has become battered and bruised. Any ideas on where I can either 1) get a the leather re-done or a new wheel. I was thinking to taking it to a saddlers.
