If you have an OBD2 then don't bother with a chip/remap. Your ecu is very advanced and you will make virtually zero increase in power. Best of getting some decent second hand cams (I bought my Eurospec ones from a member on here) and you will gain 10-15bhp. Get Eurospec or Shricks as they give a very good even power spread, as opposed to leaving all the power high up the rev range. Then get a remap after the cams are fitted - vital to get the fuelling spot on. Stealth's full remap is the same price as a chip but far better as its custom suited specifically to your own car to get the most f

Theres a guy at my work too who has an S3..the later 220bhp version and my car easily matches its performance. The S3 is a nice car but it does sound dull and a bit wheezy .. after all it is just a 1.8 (this has also been mentioned in reviews about the new S3, that it sounds wheezy/strained when pushed). Would far prefer the A3 3.2 v6 which has basically the same performance but sounds much nicer. For something even more interesting you could look at the 2003 Audi S4 which has the 4.2 V8 (340bhp) in it. Now that would be nice. All for under 20k.

Anyone know more about this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/surrey/6422215.stm What an idiot! Same as the idiot in the US a year or two ago who wrapped his Ferrari Enzo round a lamp post. The people who can actually afford these cars are so crap at driving.

Try using someone other than Storm D. I had a bad experience with them. I've heard good things about NS Racing regarding second hand chargers who should meet your budget. Be worth trying them. There is a member on here who deals with them alot. He will be able to help more.

Hi mate, welcome to the site. In answer to your question..one word: don't. A full custom remap at Stealth Racing will cost the same (£300) as a superchip or similar. Stealth Racing are the best in the UK when it comes to remapping the VR engine. A custom remap gets the most power from your mods. Whereas a chip is much more limited. However as you have a late model VR the ecu is very advanced and you won't get any benefit or power increase from either a chip or remap unless you get significant mods first, such as 268 cams or more. Otherwise you won't see any gain at all. A chip/remap is e

Nice one Jon. Glad you got your money back.. in one way or another. Ebay is good for a lot of things but still risky. Gmax do a 35/40mm lowering kit (but more like 45mm), shocks and springs and they make the VR look and ride perfectly..all for £200, guaranteed for 3 years and have gas shocks as opposed to oil based so they last longer. The Phirm recommend them and I've found them to be spot on. Big improvement over standard ride height and with a vr6 deep front spoiler. You wouldn't want it any lower but its not too lower so its still very practical..looks perfect.

Did you pay with a credit card? You will definitely get your money back if you paid this way.. although I doubt you can pay with credit card as it is Ebay. Paypal and Ebay aren't very good when it comes to recouping money - they've been on watchdog quite a few times. But well worth a try and phone up Paypal to speak to someone. You may get through to a professional person there who will sort your case out and get you your money back. Does sound as though you have the wrong springs. GTI springs wont fit a VR as mentioned above because the engine is slightly heavier in the VR.

Dodgey fuel from Tesco's & Morrisons what actually has happened
matth76 replied to simey's topic in General Chat
What's the situation with Tesco fuel? I must have missed a day's news when they talked about it (but as usual they only mention it on one day and then you never hear about it again!). Last I heard Tesco were denying it all then I head a very brief mention on the radio recently that Tesco were offereing compensation... what exactly happened? And was their super unleaded fuel affected? I had no problems filling up on their 99 stuff (as I normally do) a day before the news story first came out. Could be that only the 95 ron stuff was affected. Anyone know if it is safe to use again. To be saf -
Looked more like 9 secs dead as opposed to 9.9. Very nice mate. Be interesting how the VR compares to other cars 60-100mph. Anyone have any figures or stats on other cars?

Nor the wheel arches...same as the early OBD1 spec. Odd that a late registered vehicle would have an early spec exterior etc.

Personally I wouldn't bother with a stainless six branch. I got no power increase on the rolling road and they are very prone to blowing (even with all the full engine mounts etc). Quite a few specialists I have spoken to about them also don't recommend them. Not worth the hassle or expense.

Stealth Racing (in the midlands) or The Phirm (in the south) are the main specialists for the VR. They should help you out.

Same here... Quantum Synta (silver) 10w 40. It's semi-synthetic. Don't go for fully synthetic as that is too thin. All the major specialists use and recommend synta silver.

The OBD2 uses a more advanced ECU which gives it around 10bhp more and there are a few throttle body differences too. I would try and source an OBD2 to keep things simple. -
CALLING MK3 VR6 WITH VIPER2 PERFORMANCE CHIP!
matth76 replied to faigolfgti's topic in Engine Tuning
Don't get a chip!! Get a full custom remap instead. Same price but far far better. Stealth are the people to talk to. -
looking for your oil reccomendations!
matth76 replied to vr6lew's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Most on here use Quantum Synta Silver 10w40 which is semi-synthetic and The Phirm and Stealth recommend this too. I would definitely not use the much thinner fully synthetic as it is too thin for a vr unless really heavily modified. You can get synta silver from VW or GSF (they may have a website not sure what it is though). -
With its age and mileage I'd say around 2.5k - 2.8k possibly a tiny bit more. You'd make a lot more if you sold your 17 wheels separately and put the standard wheels back on. If left on the car you wont gain any value unfortunately. As a guide I bought my 97 P reg with 69k miles FSH etc excellent condition for £3400 and that was over a year and a half ago. Not sure what book value says. What happened to the engine requiring a full rebuild? Quite rare. I do a good 50miles a day or more. Worth holding on to it if you can. Pity you have to get a diesel. Diesel's quite expensive in the garages,

Not sure about the v6 4motion but the R32 does benefit slightly by doing the flapper mod. However it is only small. Far better gains are to be had with a more free flowing system.

I totally agree with you Pete about wireless not being secure. However I'm not an expert on the subject. At my work network we run ISA sitting behind a cisco PIX. Amazingly more than 90% of home users on a wireless network don't use a secure network key for their connection! As well as using a secure network key and firewall what else would you recommend for anyone using wireless to vpn into work or what extra software would you recommend to make it more secure on a wireless laptop to prevent intrusion? Cheers Matt

Your work network should have a firewall (such as ISA and/or Cisco PIX or similar). Your network administrator needs to give you an IP reservation for your laptop's mac address code. They will do all this. They will need to know your mac address code which you can find out by typing "ipconfig /all" in your command prompt and the data next to "physical address" is the mac code (open up command prompt by typing "cmd" in the run field in the start menu). Re your own laptop you should only make sure your wireless network connection on your laptop has a secure network key to prevent hackers..very
