  1. On the morning when it snowed the other day I went to start my car and it seems to have developed slightly more "lethargic" engine turn-over noise when I start it up. Car runs absolutely fine and very smooth once started, including when cold..it is only the process of actually starting it up when the engine turns over. Its just slower to turn over. I don't think its the starter motor as I had that replaced a year ago. Is this a common problem when it gets slightly colder?? I didn't notice this last winter. Could it be battery related or something else? I've only noticed this since the da
  2. A local garage may be ok for minor servicing but for big work definitely get the work done at either Stealth Racing or The Phirm - believe me you will save a lot of trouble and hassle in the long run.. I wouldn't take it anywhere else. Both are the same price as a local garage but ten times more experienced than my local vw main dealer! I travel a bit over an hour to get my car done at the phirm... but well worth it. I have heard of quite a few people on here who have had work done at a garage (for a good quote) and had no end of problems afterwards resulting in more cost afterward to try an
  3. That Danielle and Jo are equally as bad, I'd say Danielle is the worst out of the three in my opinion starting all this. Definitely not surprised when I read Teddy Sheringham had dumped her! Serves them all right!!! Funny thing is each one of them went into this trying to "boost" their career.
  4. I personally don't think it looks much different to a standard numberplate apart from the vw logo.

    Tyres

BF Goodrich G-Force Profilers ...I'm thinking about these next. 5 out of 6 rally teams choose this brand and its very successful, but often overlooked when people select tyres for their road car. Similar price as Toyo's, Goodyear etc. Everyone I've heard who has used them says very good things about them. Worth looking at. I have used Goodyear F1's but they were very good to start with but absolutely useless (and scary) in the wet when only 2/3 worn. Plus they only lasted about 6 months.
  6. If you're not happy with the car take it back to the company that did the work! That's the customer's right. Get them to fix it until it sounds and runs normally. It shouldn't sound like a scooby on tick over. It should be pretty much silent if it has just had a rebuild. I assume they told you you had to 'run' the engine in for a set number of miles before taking it over 3k revs? This is normal procedure for engine rebuilds and very important. However it should still sound normal straight away. Take it back to the garage and get them to sort it out. Get a second opinion too from another spe
  7. No point getting a chip/remap if you have a lightly modded OBD2 VR6, i.e one made in mid 1995 onwards.. you'll get no power increase at all. It's only beneficial if you have mods such as cams or above, but this is just to get the fuelling spot on, not for a power increase - any increase will be minimal. Older OBD1 vr's may gain up to 10bhp with a remap though but there would be more of an increase with a throttle body and air filter/exhaust upgrade first before doing the remap. As said above - only one place I would trust to mess with my car's ECU and that is Stealth Racing. It is an importa
  8. Yes I get the same page too, with a title "Authorisation Required", with the following "You are not authorised to view this page" in the body of the page.
  9. I would advise taking it to Stealth if you are in Staffordshire. For £50 you can have a full diagnostic rolling road session. Does sound as though you need to check your timing and fuelling is ok. Stealth are highly recommended on here and definitely one of the best in the UK for vr6 tuning and servicing. Vince who owns it used to do engineering with VW Cup racers so is extremely experienced.
  10. If you can't see any obvious leaks after looking around the thermostat I would get a compression test done to show up any possible problems with your head gasket as that can sometimes be a cause of mysterious coolant loss.
  11. Depends what the actual mileage is and how regular the service history is. I assume from what you say above you have had a new engine, gearbox and clutch put in?
  12. So if you get a new genuine VW windscreen you simply screw the rear view mirror into it?
  13. Take photos too if you can. One question - will they put your main central interior mirror back on to the windscreen? How is this done as I once tried the sticky back things you get in Halfords on my old car's mirror and it was useless?
  14. If you're just after a power figure (which will also include diagnostics to check your fuelling/timing is all correct) will cost £50+vat. When I had their full custom remap it cost me £300 last year. Although you won't need a remap / chip unless you already have at least cams or a shrick inlet manifold or more, otherwise it's pointless. Best thing is to start with a BMC and freer flowing exhaust, although it will only liberate about 5bhp in total. The OBD2 vr is already in a high state of tune as standard - most standard OBD2 (mid 95 year onwards) tend to have at least 185-190bhp as stand
  15. The vr6 lump can withstand power well above 400bhp, as long as you fit a thicker head gasket to lower compression and fit arp head bolts or similar. As long as its properly mapped with efficient fuelling(whether it's 210bhp or 400bhp) everything will run reliably. Many tuned Jap sports cars can run 400-500bhp all day long and they are far more reliable than some bog standard cars. Its all about getting the mapping correct. I agree with the above mate, save for a second hand charger and then get it fitted and properly set up at Stealth. You should see 260-280ish bhp, and for not a huge amount m
  16. A friend of mine is selling his Clio Williams. He is open to offers. It's an M-reg version 2 I believe, slightly over 100k miles (not sure exactly) on the clock which is average. Very well looked after etc etc. Only modification is a K&N induction kit and full Magnex s/s system, oh and 17" gold wheels as opposed to the smaller ones. I can find out more if anyone is interested?
  17. Thanks guys for all your help. Russ, what was the wear like on the BF Goodrich G-Force Profilers? How long (or approx how many miles) did they last, compare to other tyres? Cheers
  18. Hi Does the GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 GSD2 still come in 205/50/15 size anymore? I have checked the Goodyear website and it came up with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD2 being available in my size. The GSD2 is different to the last Eagle F1's I had which were in 195 size, which were GSD3's which my local tyre dealer said didn't come in 205 width anymore. Is the same true for the GSD2's? Anyone recently bought some at a local dealer? How are they? My GSD3's wore down very quickly. Does anyone know how they compare or what the difference is between GSD2's and GSD3's (apart from the tread pattern being ju
  19. My oil temp reads on average 10 deg lower in this colder weather, although it does normally reach operating temp (90deg) once you get going. 20 deg lower seems quite low, and especially if it never reaches normal operating temp. My oil temp normally reaches 90-95 at normal operating temp. In this weather it normally takes twice as long to reach 90 degrees. Have you changed your oil as that can make a big difference? Or has anything else been changed on your engine in the last few months?
  20. Are Toyo R888's safe in the wet and do they last the same amount of time as Goodyear F1's or do they wear quicker?
  21. Starts of as understeer where the front wheels lose traction and I just go forward instead of continuing round the bend, and then the back end swivels out, so yes a bit of oversteer.
  22. I've heard 280 is very hard to get with light mods.
  23. I've also heard mixed reviews about AMD. I would only trust my car with Stealth for ecu tuning.
