  1. whats the o.e. final drive on these? and surely if you put a longer 5th gear there'll be a huge drop in rpms when changing from 4th to 5th? not saying it will be a prob necessarily...just want more info.
  2. the fonts just need to be pushed back in, which is quite easy to do (small vice, crow bar, etc). once you have the wind back tool i imagine you can use it on the fronts as well to make it even easier.
  3. i think the o.e. final drive is excessively long...think it'll do 167mph (and the car dont have enough power to push the car through the air upto that speed). phatvr6 is the man to talk to, but he's rarely on any forums at the mo.
  4. the reacaros are a very different shape and go up higher in the shoulder area. highline seats are the same shape as normal vr6 seats are they not? it the colour concept interior which is leather recaros. wanna sell me your seats nickbee?! i've never seen mkIV's with the same setas as the link in my last post. their all like these aren't they...http://img17.photobucket.com/albums/v50/acf8181/temporary/grey_1.jpg
  5. the main differences are that obd2 has an electronic throttle body, and thus a different inlet manifold, and also has single row timing chains. but i think theres a few other bits and bobs on the engine, wiring/sensors as well. but if you used the inlet, engine loom, and anciliaries from your original engine theres no reason why it wouldn't work in my mind...but i've never had a good look at an obd2.
  6. nah, they're not...i have a set lying about too! the mkIII recaros are very similar to mkII recaros, but with nicer fabric. heres a pic....(i want these seats so badly) http://img17.photobucket.com/albums/v50/acf8181/permanent/mkIII_recaros.jpg [ Edited Fri Jul 16 2004, 10:49AM ] [ Edited Fri Jul 16 2004, 10:49AM ]
  7. the rear caliper pistons have to be wound back into the caliper (pushing and turning at the same time) to create room for the new pads (which are obviously bigger. i tried pushing and turning with a pair of plyers for hours and hardly moved them...then went and bought the special tool from halfords for £15 and did in 30 secs....so i'd strongly advise getting the tool. apart from that its the same as the fronts (have you done fronts before?)
  8. not normally into porsche wheels...but they'd look pretty cool i think.
  9. simplest way is to use audi S3 discs and caliper carriers with your existing calipers spacered out. but if you go for new calipers PM me first
  10. no need to leave here...we'd all like to see your new ride. why not take one of the SC boys on on a strip?
  11. i hate you! can you get any other stuff that may interest me?
  12. i hate you! can you get any other stuff that may interest me?
  13. or the north circular on any weekday!! used to drive a white van down their! hehe
  14. how much you get the chains and stuff for then? i paid about a ton.
  15. you have gotta half expect a car ahead to pull out when you're tryin to overtake.
  16. so it is flat with the head then? thats all i need to know, cheers.
  17. hope all this was in a national speed limit zone?! lol
  18. ok, am puttin the new chains/tensioners on, but want to querie something with you guys. i know the bottom ends all on the perfect marks (as is the intermediate pulley), but should the slots in the camshaft be level with the edge of the head? (i.e. you're lookin from the side of the engine, should they be at the same angle as the edge of the head? or to put it another way, is the proper vw tool (which they wont sell me) completely flat?)
  19. sounds like the ones...but i'd like to see pics as i think there may be different patterns on the upholstery. is yours a vr6? what year? apparantly they cost a grand as an option (hence the rarity) i'd be prepared to pay a reasonable amount for a set in perfect condition as the standard sports seats give me shoulder problems.
  20. flywheels are quite light anyway, clutches last a long time so check the condition (mines still good after 130k) but then, the car bits will last longer than a piss up holiday.
  21. pis please (not that i don't believe you) if they are proper ones, wanna sell them? (i'll swap them for my surrent normal vr6 interior and a full mkIV gti interior )
  22. soften the suspension then!!! simple answer really.
  23. ok, if you check it regularly and it suddenly just used loads, there has to be a prob. first off, what colour is this smoke? if its bluey theres a big problem. also, check theres no leak anywhere...but a large bit of card under the car over night and see if theres any oil on it in the morning.
