  1. ok, heres the issue...one of the pins appears to be bent over...just wanna check its not normal. it also appears to be the one for the speedo...which doesn't work! here's some crap pics...
  2. ask vw...and get the correct answer! lol the mount for the bearing type looks to be a very different shape. i may well end up getting them from gsf or ecp anyway.
  3. surely you have to chop and weld the floor pan?
  4. having ordered a nice new bilstein sprintline kit, i feel its a good idea to replace the bumpstops and rubber top mount parts. been looking on etka and have got confused at which top mount to get for the front shocks. the only one it says for the vr6/gti is part no 357 412 331A, but then i checked on a later car and its the same part no. but the later cars have different top mounts, with a bearing (mines ealry without)...so that can't be the one. i then looked at early non-vr6/gti and the part on the image looks to be the correct one, part no. 357 412 329. but then also on the non'vr6/gti s
  5. 25mm off the rubber of the bumpstop will do the trick fine anyway.
  6. remeber to get the adapter lead for OBD1 use.
  7. ...i need a quick favour. can someone undo the engine wiring connector and take a pic of inside both ends for me please? i may have discovered whst wrong with my speedo.
  8. easiest thing would have been to put the vr6 engine into a mkII rallye! to be honest...none of these sycro/haldex systems are that good...all they do is give the car more understeer unless you really chuck it into the corners (which isn't good for speed). most 4wd cars understeer loads, even more than FWD apparantly. RWD is the way forward...shame theres no nice/quick ones for vr6 money.
  9. well, yes you can fit it...but you'll obviously be loosing the airbag. you'll need the correct steering wheel boss for your new wheel (they're universal wheels, then you add the specific boss for your car), you canals get a resistor which will trick the airbag ECU into thinkin there's an airbag there otherwise the light will be on all the time. even if the light is on, it won't fail the MOT (i know cause the girlies polo just went through with the light on)
  10. just make sure you get a kit that has the cone inclosed in its own heatshield (as the bca is), otherwise it draws in hot air (which the vr6 creates a lot of) which saps power.

  12. just to add...have you got a bentley manual to tell you how to set the timing? be careful you get it spot on...check four or five times if you have to...they only have a two teeth tolerance before something gets damaged, or so i hear. when you put it all back make sure the piston on the top tensioner bolt is fully retraced. turn the engine over by hand a few times, re check the timing, then put the cam all the stuff back on the top, then remove the fuel pump fuse and crank the engine a few times, then put the fuse back in an hope for the best. heres a diagram off all the parts... just e-mail
  13. change everything whilst you're there, the chains aren;t likely to break, but they do stretch so couls concieveably slip if they get too stretched. you don't wanna be takin it apart again. but get the pasrt from ECP...they're genuine parts (i.e. same as vw) and cost half the price of vw. may be worth putting a new clutch in if yours is worn whilst you're there...get a sachs or lux if you need to change it.
  14. choppped down standard vw ones are the best...don't get uprated (poly) ones...they be well harsh!
  15. excuse the poor quality photos (camera phone) and the fact that the car is in bits, but .... ...and that one came from a later car. this is quite interesting, i wonder how pete got on at vw. wish i'd known they sell a t-piece when that hose let go on mine.
  16. not if you like to stick to low revs...i need a chrik badly!
  17. yep, one sec i'll get the link and PM ya
  18. yep...i think a schrik is the way forward...makes it feel a bit like an 8v right pete?...so you don't use as many revs which saves fuel.
  19. ok, my etka doesn't recognise either part no! as i said yesterday to pete...the hose is supposed to be one piece...its obviously broken and someones botched it with the said t-piece. i had the hose let go as well...and wasn't gonna buy a new one at £60...i tried to find one of these t-pieces but couldn't anywhere...but dubloke came to the rescue as he got samco's. now who else has samco's? whay don't you offer pete your old hose
  20. i'm drive very hard, so maybe there is something amiss with your vr6 then?
  21. whats peoples thoughts on powerflex bushes, vibra engine mounts, and highline alloys on a non-highline? i once had a un -dec;ared modded car written off, and the inspector said nothing...but then i was claiming off the other party...so it didn't cost them anything (in fact they made money due to the excess).
