  1. i pay less than that and i'm 23 (5yrs NCD). try elephant.
  2. theres two different types of t-cut (actually there's three, but one is called colour fast, so not really t-cut)...theres a red bottle (non-metallics) and blue bottle (metallics)...don't use the wrong one! it'll say on the bottle just to confirm this. the wrong one will wreck your paint. 3. aren't all 'rado's obd1? think they're the same as obd1 golfs if so. (note the word 'think')
  4. a standard one with chromed tips is what i'm gonna go for. but there are two different o.e. boxes...the earlier cars have a twin slash cut design that is rather nice. the later cars have twin downswept pee shooters which are nasty.
  5. oh, you mean the intake tube thingy...you notice any difference yourself?
  6. yeah, maybe someone had wet feet?! lol
  7. b symons you mean? my bro knows his sons. wasn't aware he was a vw man...its off to moorside today (my mothers dealt with them for years, so they'll hopefully do a good job)
  8. sounds like heater matrix to me...but surely the coolant level would have dropped?!
  9. the plugs and terminals are colour coded (probably hidden by dirt)
  10. i can't even remember what vr6 power feels like anymore...mines been off the road for so long!
  11. how can i tell if the cams are 180 out...this has been on my mind as well.
  12. just to update..i spoke to bilstein and it varies from kit to kit...so unless it says in the instructions that normal bumpstops aren't needed then use normal bumpstops. i cut mine down about 20-25mm.
  13. from what i've hard its not the power that is the great thing, but the extra torque, and more specifically that the torque coimes in a lot sooner...so the car feels more like an 4 cyl 8v (if you know what i mean).
  14. ...by one tooth on each camshaft? cause i may have done it accidently...and i'm very worried. weird bit was car ran sweet as, until it got over 3000rpm (i didn't go much higher than that) where it seemed as though it had lost cylinders. so re-checked it and set it right...but it didn't start very well, and sounded like it was off some cylinders all the time (but had sparks to all cylinders)
  15. anyway...see this thread - http://www.vr6golf.co.uk/forum_viewtopic.php?10.23306
  16. was gonna take it to stealth but he's booked up till sept...and i need to go to germany a week friday! eek! doubt any garage near me will no much about vr6's.
  17. ok, just wanna check... when engine is at TDC the no. 1 piston is fully at the top, yes? and which valve should be open?
  18. yeah, i did it myself....i have a suspicion this is what the prob is.
  19. i'm not so worried about the clutch for the moment. car feels like it wants to go, but is held back...timing chain a tooth out perhaps?
  20. ok...its not right when i drove round the estate with no bonnet i was only at low rpms and low throttle...it felt fine. now i've got the bonnet back on and took it for a proper spin alls not well. theres no power...feels a bit like its not on all cylinders. the clutch makes a weird noise that goes away when i press the pedal. ideas please? i haven't checked for sprks yet as i was fed up and needed something to eat...will crack on with it tomoz morning...give me things to check
  21. ok...may have 240bhp...its a fair bit more than the basic turbo though. yeah, you could have two vr6's for £10k of course. mangold - have a go in one (phone up a scooby dealers that have some in and 'pretend' you're thinking of buying one )..i don't like them for the looks
  22. dan should be at work! i'll wait for the girlfirend and mother to get back! oh...i think its still leaking coolant as well!
  23. you driven one? they are seriously nice to drive (and thats comparing to a vr6 which itself is a nice drive!)...so sure footed.
