  1. prestwood is a hill climb course...so basically like a single track road. goodwood is a fantastic little track....though not much room for error so be careful. not that they'll let you go very fast. i'd prob go for the 355, though according to a contact who works at silverstone race school the older ferraris are more fun. a female friend of mine got bought the same red letter day as your self....sucks that you only get about 5 laps. for future reference if anyones buying a driving experience go direct to the race school...and always go for the one with most track time.
  2. i kind of have equal feeling towards both countries vehicles... i'm very on-ff though. i like scoobs, mr2's, celica's (twing lamp type), later preludes, but dislike most the rest. pulsar's are crap IMO. biggest prob with german cars is they tend to be too conservative as standard. what i crave is a car thats entertaining to drive as standard...my vr6 is finally really good to drive but has aweful ride....so i'm gonna try an mr2 which seems to fit the bill.
  3. as you know i'm in maidenhead i've seen that bird in the highline near mine before now. you seen the absolutely mint, standard, silver late vr thats parked on cookham high street? is very nice.
  4. haven't had that happen since i had a nova!
  5. yeah, i was thinking that!
  6. not all obd1's are blue dash...mine isn't! (i didn't buy a mint vr6 cause it had blue dash....was also white exterior which i didn't want)
  7. only other thing to be aware of is that if your clutch is quite worn its the perfect time to change it (get one from vw, only about £80 and good quality). though mine still has plenty of life left after 120k (is deffo original as well, has date stamp on it!) oh, you must use new flywheel stretch bolts as well (trust me you dont want the flywheel to break free...have heard of people loosing feet with it happening)
  8. have you had the fault codes checked recently? is it throwing any up? if there are none, i'd be thinking it may be the chip is not set up perfectly.
  9. oh, well the chains are the same as late mkIII vr6's (earlier ones had double top chains). or do you mean put on a mkIV 12v type top blade runner? if so, they can apparantely be used on double chains.
  10. yep, gearbox has to come out.....so you may as well replace the lot if you do that (about £100 for all the parts, from gsf - and they're o.e. parts). its always the blade runner that goes first.
  11. nah, you need 6 litres for vr6's unfortunately.
  12. yeah, i'd say the brakes are a sensible buy...i bet the car stops very nicely now. its only that the exhaust could prob have been left for a while, and that you coudl have collected second hand parts.
  13. they're not connected according to etka, as the blue interior continued till '94, dizzy was dropped for '93. by the way, if you're after a black dash, i'm sure fabio_vr6 has one spare as he's braking a td.
  14. on a 24v you mean? gonna be hard pushed to get an answer on this forum as i don't think anyone has a 24v, and certainly not one thats up to the milegae for timing chains yet. maybe try vw vortex forum?
  15. nice of him to explain that in detail, hey! ok, what you need to try and do is press the brakes lightly, but for long periods to start with, then gradually increase the pressure a bit at a time (but still for long periods). its so you bed the pad in, if you go and and stand hard on them you'll screw the new pads/discs and end up with warped brakes (so the wheel will vibrate under braking). now, what i do to speed up the process is drive along at about 60mph on a dual carriageway and whilst still on the throttle i left foot brake (very very lightly at first) for about 10-15secs, then let off t
  16. thats is utter cr*p...how hard can it be to make them the right size!
  17. this is why o.e. ones are recommended (red's are best by the way, but cost £100).
  18. well, considering the parts that were replaced that is a fair price....whether all the parts really needed replacing, or whether you coudl have got them cheaper second hand (exhaust mainly) is another question tho.
  19. having been in fabio's de-catted vr6 it would piss me off, it is very noticeable compared to my o.e. exhaust. i just don't think its worth it anyway, you're only gonna gain a few bhp, its just not worth the hassle of putting it on every year for MOT.
  20. gotta be something damamged in there....quite possibily the shock, but you need to check the whole lot very carefully.
  21. ooh, yeah, missed that bit...you gotta assume the chain snapped. but why this would be the case at that low mileage is a weird one. even with serious abuse and poor oil you wouldn't expect them to snap. maybe there was a dodgy chain put on it, only thing i can think of.
  22. if you read the rest of the thread ronnie you'll see it was a typo..was meant to be 117 i think you can be quite relieved at the result anorak, as said my mate got almost twice that for an extra 4mph.
  23. personally i think stretched tyres are stupid &|
