  1. Hi guys Im finally getting round to mating up my gearbox and engine together for the first time, (Man thats hard!) and was just wondering is there supposed to be a metal plate that acts like a gasket almost that goes inbetwen the gearbox and the engine? Just that when I removed the 1.8 engine that was in the car, there was two or three seperate plates arranged around the bell housing bolts to sperate the engine and block. Any help? really want to get this build done! Cheers

  11. it slots into both cams on the other side of the sprocketsif you get a flat mit of metal inbetween the cams, in the little slot there is, then ye you can, as long as. theres no play
  12. Oh, and http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VR6-Camshaft-Alignment-Engine-Repair-3268-Cam-Tool-VW-/170620273753?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27b9c2c459 first link i found
  13. If you dont use the tool the cams will come out of time with each other / crank shaft, so when you start the engine, the valves will start hitting the pistons crowns, then your entering a whole world of trouble, bent valves, pretty blown head, and severe damage to pistons. Trust me when i say, make sure the engine is in time!!
  14. tbh i wouldnt take that chance, wait till you get the locking plate, otherwise they most definetly will move, not worth a blown engine!
  15. check ALL cable terminationsthey can easily work themselces loose

  17. i agree with kev, schimmel are probs the best choice, i think psi loss is something ludicrous like .20 or something (i want!!) you could probably modify up and adaptor of some kind to mate it up with your mani. hope that helps
  18. yup prety much any cable mate, its only a 12v supply with negligable current. just make sure the cable is stranded, other then that it will do. speaker wire is a good example. oh check the rem cable at the headunit first, it can come loose.. cheers
  19. imho do it as a matter of course, may as well while your doing it
