  1. Guys, can I suggest that you look on the Corrado Forum? http://the-corrado.net/forum/index.php They are all OBD1 and this seems to be a really common issue with Corrados. My son has a VR Corrado, so I've used the Corrado Forum extensively. My son's car was like that when we bought it in March. It still hunts when you start it - his problem is apparently caused by the fuel pump not pressurising the fuel injection quickly enough - it is not too bad so we've left it for now. BUT there are numerous other causes. The Corrado Forum is very well laid out and full of great info, plus loads of posters
  2. When my coilpack went, I did the plugs (£36.02) and leads (£78.30) first - ever hopeful they might be the problem. Turned out it was the coilpack (£142.89)! All OE VW parts from VW Parts outlet near me. With new coilpack sweet as a nt. You could try the plugs and leads. Take each plug out and have a butchers to see if its the right colour. That is if the problem is on the high tension side.
  3. Had my tracking, camber, caster checked the other day on one of those spanky new Corghi machines at a tyre centre. The print-out you get (most of which you can't understand!!) gives you the specified settings for the car. For the record, a Golf3 VR6 should be: Toe: 00.00, tolerence +/-00.20 degrees (so they should be set straight ahead true, no toe in or out). Camber: -00.70, tolerence +/-00.30 degrees I believe these are the only two things that can be adjusted. So the other info tells you it's not right but there's not a lot you can do about it!! Most large body shops (crash repairers) have
  4. Rikki, that's interesting about the reds. Are they a bit too 'severe' for ordinary road use? Maybe green is better. Do the green produce much less dust than the standard items?
  5. I'm about to replace my front discs and pads, so done a bit of research and EBC Direct seem to be the best price. Club members get a 15% discount from EBC Direct and free shipping, Green are £48 and red are £56 (that's for a later 1997 288mm - for earlier cars they are cheaper). I think the promo code is in the premium members discount section. I'm going to go with red, hoping that they produce the least dust. [Mod Edit to remove actual discount code]
  6. I had a front wheel bearing go in April - it went from just hear it to horrendous noise very quickly. Funnily enough, garage said "are you sure it is not the tyres"! Yeah, dead sure!! Ended up changing both as couldn't tell which it was and did nearside first and turned out it was offside. Also had rear discs and pads in April as they were knackered and they did the rear bearings at the same time (they fit inside the disc) - the bearings are only about £12.00 each. Quite easy to do if you've or buy the tool to wind the piston back.
  7. You could call the Trade Parts guys in Burgess Hill and maybe they can tell you if there is an equivalent near you? 01444 465500. They are pretty helpful.
  8. By way of more basic explanation....the heater matrix is a small radiator, connected to the main cooling system, through which the incoming outside air is passed thus heating it up. Hence you don't get heat from the vents until the car's coolant has heated up, and so the heater matrix. So it is pressurised, same as the rad and whole system.Sorry if this is obvious! As you say, if it only happens when it rains maybe it isn't this. Hopefully not, as it is a b*****d to replace. Very common issue with Corrados is the heater matrix. Fills behind the dash with steam and does for the digital displays
  9. As your are OBD1 try the Corrado Forum. My son has a Corrado VR6. Seem to be sooooo many bits and pieces to cause this kind of problem. Long live OBD2.
  10. I've been going to Brighton TPS (The Trade Parts Specilaists) in Burgess Hill. They are a proper wholly owned subsidiary of VAG, so they are like a main dealer, but just do parts. No silly little teen chavs, really knowledgeable folk. Let me have things sale or return (coilpack a few months back as I wasn't sure if it was that or the leads). Give a bit of discount (got top mounts and bearings for a mate's Corrado VR6 for £34.66 inc. VAT the other day). You give 'em the reg and they know all about your car. Apparantly VW (probably aware that the main dealers employ only muppets and also to re
  11. Could be a lower wishbone bush. Try taking it to a different place and have the tracking checked again - preferably one with the sophisticated kit that is out there now. If your bushes are gone, the wheels will probably end up in a slightly different postion relative to each other than the previous time you had it checked and they will say the tracking is out. If it's only a little, that is probably down to the difference in kit and technician, but if it is a degree or more it would point to a bush.
  12. Thought the standard tyre on VR 15" wheels (6.5J) was 205/50/15??? That what mine has, so does my mate's Corrado VR on 15" Speedlines.
  13. Presume you have the skinny spare? Try fitting that first one side then the other to see if the noise disappears. I doubt the spare will whine, so that might help you diagnose whether it actually IS a tyre and which tyre it is. Or find someone nearby with a spare set of wheels and tyres - I've got some but I'm too far away (nr Gatwick) - and lob those on it to see what happens (and/or put your rears on theirs). I've had misshapen tyres a couple of times on old Pug 205s that I ran for my kids. It felt like all the weights had fallen off, didn't whine. If you stick them on a wheel balancing mach
  14. I've had a 1997 Golf3 VR Highline for just over a year and my son got a Corrado VR6 in March. Both have unmodified, standard suspension. Both have standard 15s with Proxy T1-Rs. So quite a good comparison. They feel about the same acceleration wise but the Corrado keeps going better at the top end because it is more aerodynamic. However, I am astonished at how much better his Corrado handles than my Golf. You can absolutely CANE it round corners, the turn-in is immense. To the extent that he gets the rear tires to make a little squeal. The centre of gravity is way lower than the Golf and it sh
  15. As your motor is OBD1, go on the Corrado Forum and havve alook and a post. They might be able to help - there is a lot of good stuff on there and Corrados seem to have many more of these kinds of problems than Golfs. My son has a 1994 Corrado VR. I have a 1997 Golf VR. Very different problems it seems. For example, there is adetailed guide to sorting out the ISV.
  16. There is an independant VW specialist in Crawley called Veefix. They are in Stephenson Way, just near 3 Bridges station, 01293 545980. I think £45 per hour plus VAT. Know most things about Mk 3s. I've had them do some bits and pieces for me in the past as I'm in Grinstead. Other independant specialists are available!! I've had work done by all of these: Cares of Crowborough - he's a proper 'engineer', rather than a fitter CG Cars (VW & Audi) in Crowborough - knowledgeable, nice people, mine is in with them tomorrow SW Auto Repairs, Ditchling Common (Stuart) - 20 years experience with VW m
  17. Find an empty car park and drive it at walking pace on full lock, both ways. Have a mate stand outside and see if they can hear which side and/or where it is coming from. If it is noisey whilst doing that, could be a CV joint.
  18. Stop on a slight slope. Release the brakes and the car should roll. If it doesn't, the pads are not releasing properly. Probably the sliders not cleaned and greased. Or jack it up and see if the wheel rotates easily and smoothly by hand.

My son is 22 and has just bought a 1994 Corrado VR6. He had a Classic Mini Cooper 1.3i for a couple of years. Researching insurance, we found that the Corrado costs him £500 pa fully comp and that a Golf VR6 would have cost £1,000 pa fully comp. He has 4 years NCB. Given the Corrada is slightly quicker that seemed pretty wierd to us. Both cars are on standard suspension and I have to say the Corrado handles way, way better than my Golf VR6....and feels a fair bit quicker. But I like my Golf, so I'm not changing!! It is hard to find a decent Corrado without too many miles that has been looked
  20. Hi, need a N/S headlight. What year is the car being broken? Mine is an M Reg 1994. Think there are early and late versions and I need late.
  21. Thanks Cabrioman, that is what I reckon. Going to buy 'em.
  22. Being offered a used Eibach ARB set by a bloke who has broken a Corrado VR6 (sad) to fit to my 1997 Golf VR6. I think it is the same kit for the Corrado and Golf. Checked Europerformance and Balance Motor Sport websites and they show the same Eibach part for both, E8530.320. Before I part with my dosh, anyone know if there will be a problem fitting to my Golf? Is it the same kit for both? He is asking £150 for them. About 15k miles old - is that fair? New ones have gone up a bit recently because the £ is such pants against the Euro.
  23. Go to a Main Dealer. I bought a new rear Highline VR6 badge from a Main Stealer for £10.66 inc VAT in May 2008. Just looked on eBay and they are all MORE EXPENSIVE!! They are typically £11.99 plus £3.95 postage, so about £16.00. Some are even more expensive. And you have to phaff about on eBay and wait and potentially sign for the carrier. Just go to a Main Dealer (you will probably have to get them to order it in). Items on eBay are not always the bargain that they appear. I sold 3 Jenson Interceptor manuals on eBay a year ago for £214 that you can still by new for £75!!!! Deep joy. I s
  24. Fitted Toyo Proxes T1-R 205/50/15 to the front of my standard VR6 about 700 miles ago, replacing Hankook Ventus Prime that were on the car when I bought it. Really pleased with them. Apart from increased grip, the steering is much more precise. They seem to reduce roll as well, maybe because they are reinforced, so the sidewalls are stiffer?? Most unexpected improvement though is comfort - they have reduced the bump/thump and crashing over poor surfaces dramatically, it is a revalation. Can't comment on wear rate yet, but given the improvement I'm not too concerned about it. Black Circles sell
