Nice one. Check this out too http://farcanal.co.uk/ -
Hi Elephant have told me they don't allow any kind of computer chips or remaps. So now looking to cancel and go with another company that does insure with this mod. I've heard of HIC... are they any good? How good is their customer service and how cheap are they? Do they allow many mods? Are their telephone lines open till late most of the week? Cheers for any help Matt

Stealth re-chip - can I use any petrol with this (i.e 97-99 ron)?

BMC induction kit - who runs it with or without the cold air feed?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Tuning
Yeah my car was around the 195bhp mark with 183lbs/ft torque. My car was running lean and still had pinking so vince at Stealth recommended the rechip/remap to combat that and as a result the bhp was lowered slightly. However the torque is quite a bit above average for a lightly modded vr as the remap gave a nice high torque output.. mainly down to the 6 branch and complete exhaust system plus bmc... got the final figures.. it has 192bhp and 193 lbs/ft torque. It pulls like a train now. Vince at stealth said the gains with the cold air feed fitted are marginal if any at all. The rolling -
Hi Just got car back from Stealth after a re-chip and it has really made a difference to the drivability of the car...torque is available straight away. My question is when Stealth did the re-chip I had it full up with Tesco's 99 ron fuel... does this mean it was remapped/rechipped just for this 99 ron fuel or will Stealth have given it allowances so I can use at least a lower ron fuel... like 97 or 98? Had no choice but to fill it up on 97 ron fuel on the way home. Thanks for any info. I will confirm with Vince tomorrow about this. Cheers Matt ps. If any of you are with Elephant insura

BMC induction kit - who runs it with or without the cold air feed?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Tuning
Cheers mate... yeah all comments help thanks. I think I may leave the cold air feed off.. if there's hardly any difference with and without, especially if the rr figures at Stealth seem to say there is hardly any diff. I'm getting my car back tomorrow. It needed a remap due to a small amount of pinking remaining, which probably reduced my power to keep things safe... but from what Vince told me on the phone with all my mods and now the new BMC and remap it is making 192bhp and around 195ft/lbs torque. My bhp hasn't gone up (which I suspect is due to the remap keeping things safe) but my -
[moved] Vr6 v 150bhp GTTDI (230lbft of torque!!!!!!)
matth76 replied to gazbrook's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Most modern turbo diesels have impressive torque figures but their oomph runs out normally at 4-5k rpm. I quite believe the TDI to have 230 ft/lbs torque. Very tunable cars too. Just had my car rolling roaded at stealth and it's now putting out 192bhp but it is putting out nearly 195ft/lbs torque (nearly 15 up on what it had before), so even though the bhp isn't that impressive I'm quite pleased with the torque as that is what affects acceleration as opposed to top end max speed. Most rally cars have huge torque but relatively low bhp. -
BMC induction kit - who runs it with or without the cold air feed?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Tuning
Getting it fitted for free at Stealth as having a load of other stuff done at same time Otherwise I def would fit it myself.. done it before on other cars. Had a K&N cone on my old xr2i and that was quite noisy all the time. Did you notice any slow performance in stationery traffic with your bmc without the cold air feed fitted? -
BMC induction kit - who runs it with or without the cold air feed?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Tuning
Cheers mate. Anyone here running a BMC without the cold air feed? How does your car feel compared to standard? Stealth said on a rolling road it made no difference to power output whether a cold air feed was fitted or not. He said where it is situated there is a big gap between at the side of the head light. How quicker job is it to get Stealth to move my carbon cannister? Cheers -
Hi Just getting a BMC fitted at Stealth amongst other things, to my golf vr6, and they mentioned it doesn't really make any difference whether the cold air feed is attached or not. How many of you here have a BMC and have run it with and also without the cold air feed... did you notice any difference in driving performance at all? How many of you here run it without the cold air feed... how is the performance compared to standard? Is it noisier without the cold air feed? If it does make a difference I will get Stealth to move my carbon cannister in the morning to make space for the cold air

Nice site mate. Love the video clip of that VR overtaking in the outside lane... the sound! Not sure mine would sound as good as that. What exhaust or mods did it have?

Is it true that cars like the 4motion and R32 that have the Haldex system are prone to giving unreliable readings on rolling roads? Read this is PVW a while back about an R32 cup car or similar that had to restrict its power for the rules of the competition as it couldn't guarentee the accuracy of the rolling road figures because if one of the four wheels slipped slightly one of the other wheels would overcompensate thus giving unreliable ouput readings... excellent on the road to give grip but not for rr's.

I use Tesco 99 ron and it is cheaper than some 95 ron petrol and Ultimate is far more expensive! I find my car runs much better when it is full up than half a tank. Out of all three, I find there's very little difference... other than Tesco being cheapest, then Optimax then Ultimate... at least where live. Optimax is supposed to be 98ron and Ultimate 97ron... and if they are what they say they are then Optimax 'should' be be better based on this. I doubt there is very little in it personally unless you have a 300bhp turbo monster or similar...

Anyone had new followers (tappets) recently?

Stealth charge between £70-80 for new followers mate. They use genuine vw parts for everything. -
Polybushes on the front wishbone... a good mod?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Will fitting polybushes to the front wish bone improve the "communication" from the steering to the driver? I feel as standard the steering is a bit "vague" and mushy! -
Polybushes on the front wishbone... a good mod?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Cheers mate... so no noticable vibrations though the steering wheel since fitting the polys? Is it a bad idea just to fit front wishbone ones or should rear ones be done too? Did you have the wishbone ones done or the antiroll bar bushes (as I think they do several different types... plus they do a harder sort with stainless steel inserts and ones without ...I think)? -
Polybushes on the front wishbone... a good mod?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Cheers guys. I've also got uprated engine mounts front and gearbox and have noticed a slight bit of extra vibration when reversing or when at idle but nothing that noticably and I'm willing to put up with very very slight vibrations like this with the knowledge that my engine is much more stable. Be interested to know how the driving characteristics have changed. Some people seem to say they make a good improvement like you guys but others say it makes the car twitch and unpredictable... is this really the case? I find the car unpredictable as standard lol... so soft and mushy... the one th -
Hi Does anyone have Shrick 268 cams (just on their own not with the Shrick inlet manifold)? I currently have a cat back exhaust, high flow cat and 6 branch exhaust manfold and soon to be fitted BMC. On my last rolling road session it measured 191-195bhp and that was before the 6 branch and BMC fitted...so I'm assuming my car is around the 200bhp mark with all of these mods...maybe bit more or less. I'm interested to know whether fitting Shrick 268 cams (just the cams not the manifold too) will provide a worthwhile hike in torque and power from 3000 revs onwards? Anyone know roughly how mu

Polybushes on the front wishbone... a good mod?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Thanks. Does it make a big difference then if just the front wishbone ones are done? In what way has it improved the handling? -
As far as I know it is wise to change the gearbox one as well as it supports the other end of the engine... this will stop the "rocking back and forth" motion. The front one will stop this to a certain extent on its own but the gearbox one should ideally be done as well to eliminate any movement. I was told by The Phirm the very rear mount doesn't take much of the engine weight and as such doesn't normally need doing plus if it is done it increases vibration slightly through the steering wheel as it is located right next to the steering column apparently.

Anyone tried or heard of this intake/inlet manifold...
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Can't see how to get at the spark plugs with a shrick or that eip inlet manifold... does the whole inlet manifold have to come off just to get at one spark plug?? RIX how much did Oettinger charge to port your intake manifold mate? Any noticable gain?
