Two words mate... The Phirm. They are not far from you in Surrey and are (in my opinion) the best in the south of england for VR's. They will diagnose and fix your problem and get it back to new mate. Very good prices too... far cheaper than main dealers and far far better experienced too. To me it sounds like something has been damaged with the suspension. Without seeing it it could be anything. If you do visit The Phirm tell em Matt recommended them! Seriously though they very good. Just got new suspension fitted by them yesterday and they really took their time to get everything sp

I think you can get them for 320 plus vat. Venom's the place as said above. Could also try Tuningwerkes who do extremely good deals on suspension sometimes.. if you send Darren a PM on the corrado-forum.net site. Not sure what his username is but someone on the site should point you in the right direction very quickly.

Hi mate. If you live in London and can get to Stoke just south of Birmingham (bout an hour from London up the M40 or M1) visit Stealth Racing. They are a very good VR6 specialist and should be able to hook your car up to vag com to check for any sensor faults. Or if you're in the south of London visit The Phirm who will do the same. It could be an alternator fault. Good luck mate sorting it out. Let us know how you get on.

I may be wrong but I thought the earlier odb1 golf's had a 4 bar then this was reduced with the odb2 to 3 or 3.5bar.

Hi mate yeah was good to meet you yesterday. I should be going down to the gti festival. You car looked very nice too... I liked your morette/hella style lights. Been thinking about possibly getting some in the future. How does your car feel with the cams? Does it pull really strong above 3000revs? Your car looked perfect with the FK's! Jimbo, gmax springs and dampers...comes as a complete kit. Supposed to lower car 35mm but I think that is just a guideline. I reckon the drop must be more like 40-45mm at least. Really comfortable. The kit is around the £200 mark. Bloody good value.

Hi Strange problem with driver side electric window. To move the driver window I have to fully lower or shut the passenger window. Why is this and is this easy to fix? Its as though I need to move the passenger window to give the driver window power. And quite often the driver window will start moving on its own all the way up as you'd expect when you close it but about half way it abruptly starts going back down. So to shut it again I have to incrementally press the button to close it (often giving it 'power' by moving the passenger window up and down fully). Strange problem! Also (not

Hi Got a gmax kit fitted today at The Phirm who did a great job! The gmax kit is supposed to lower the car 35mm... it seems much lower than that! Im very pleased with it! With the standard 15" wheels I can only two fingers in the gap between the front wheel arch and tyre...and only one at the rear! Before I could almost fit a whole hand in the gap.. Also got a bigger deep front spoiler fitted at the same time and I'd say at most there is only 12cms or less gap between the bottom of the splitter and the road (previously with the old thinner late vr6 splitter there was a gap of over 18cms). Running like a dog when cold why??
matth76 replied to Ciaran's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
My car used to have this problem. Turned out a VW main dealer had neglected to tighten up every one of the 6 spark plugs during a full service!... leaving a minute gap in the contacts... problem disappeared as soon as the metal expanded when the car had warmed up. For ages I thought it was damp (which could well be a cause of your problem as this is very common but easily fixed). When you get the full service done (by a vr6 specialist not main dealer!) see if that makes a difference get all the plugs and filters done etc inc. fuel and oil filters. Get a specialist to hook it up to vag com ( -
Simple servicing questions.

Genuine VAG/VW parts are normally very good. -
Simple servicing questions.
matth76 replied to squirreleater's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hi mate. Not sure on the plugs and filters (I'm sure someone else will help with this) but I know the oil should ideally be semi synthetic "Synta Silver 10w40" which will be a silver bottle - about £16 for 5 litres. (which can be purchased from a company called GSF or any VW dealer) ...I've got the stuff in the shed... I'll check it tomorrow to confirm. 133k is nothing on a VR as long as it's been serviced regularly and looked after. I'm sure a few on here have over 200k on them and still run strong. Cheers Matt -
Rear taillight bulb and rear foglight - what codes?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Please tell me you're joking? lol please tell me you are? Cant just pick up any old bulb that looks the 'same size' !dodge You need the correct wattage/volts...A lot of bulbs look the same size but have different wattage! Anyway cheers for all the replies though. I'm surprised too this has turned into two pages lol -
Settling in period with new GMAX kit - how should car be driven?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Tuning
Thanks for the reply. The gmax kit uses gas dampers... not sure if that makes a difference? -
Hi I'm getting a gmax kit fitted tomorrow. I understand there is a 2 week "settling in" period for new suspension. How should I drive the car during this period? Do I have to take it real easy round corners? Will how hard I drive it affect how 'low' the car settles or will it not make any difference? Cheers for any help.

Rear taillight bulb and rear foglight - what codes?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Not the part code sorry ... I mean the "type" of bulb. Is it the 12v 21/5W or the other one mentioned in hand book for the "Tail Light Additional 12v 5w... There are two mentioned in the hand book. Does anyone know of hand? I'll be taking out the bulb this weekend when its light (no pun intended). What is this additional tail light? I won't be going to my local dealer lol... Halfords or CPA is always my port of call for simple things like bulbs. Picking up a bulb the same size sounds a bit hit and miss to me. I had a look at the back of the light after peeling back the carpet wall. Lo -
I agree with the above... the mark 5 GTI front is far more sporty than the r32 without being over the top. To me the mark5 r32 front grill is not much different to a regular mark5. I know it is designed to be subtle but I can't understand why they would make it more subtle than a gti which is less of a performance car (albeit slightly less). Anyway thats my personal opinion... basically I prefer the mark4 as it is more agressive and looks the part. However the R32 mark 5 is still an impressive car (much more so under the bonnet than the mark 4) but not possibly how I'd have designed the loo

Attn: Those with uprated motor mounts
matth76 replied to mattverth's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I was told if you fit a rear one it will cause extra vibration as it's right next to the steering rack etc on right hand drive cars. You only really need to change the front and gearbox ones as they take most of the weight anyway. You will notice extra vibration for the first two to three weeks though even with just front and gearbox uprated mounts while they settle in. If the vibration continues get the rear one changed to a new standard mount. -
Rear taillight bulb and rear foglight - what codes?
matth76 replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Can anyone confirm the code for the rear tail light as there are two mentioned in the handbook... one for a tail light "accessory" and another tail light? -
Mine are 205/50/15's and my petrol cap says around 26 for an unloaded car and around 28 if full. This is roughly speaking as they say the rear and the front should be slightly different - but 26-28psi all round is what I have mine at. I agree with the above... they do look slightly "flat" occasionally when I'm parked up but that is just because they are probably the widest tyres you can fit on the standard 6.5 alloys.

Cheers mate. Do you know if the later golf vr's also had 2 rear fog lights?
