  1. Hi mate im in stoke on trent and do a lot of work on vrs at very reasonable prices i dont have ramps but i can sort your exhaust no probs allthough unless you want to get down on your knees you wont be able to see for yourself he he and im sure if you ask the goth or vr6pete they will vouch for me as ive done bits for both of them cheers carl.
  2. Take the door card off and slide the whole door handle forward a bit ie door handle and carrier then un hook the rod from the handle then the bit you want to replace should just pull out of its carrier replace in the opposite procedure and its done.cheers carl.
  3. no mate ive got my own workshop and its 500 for chains and tensioners supplied and fitted if you want new clutch which i reccomend unless its quite new then i just charge for the price of the clutch on top generally around the £75 for a sachs unit .Oh and if anybody is interested they can reach me on 07957 204 365 .cheers Carl.
  4. you can generally pick up the passat vrs for peanuts if you shop about i give 600 for my last 1 and it was only on 40000 the 1 i had before that cost me 800 so compared with the other vrs there cheap as chips.

    Engine probs

firstly it sounds like a fault with blue temp sensor it may be working but not sending the appropriate signal to the ecu i;e the engine could be at 80 degrees but the sensor is telling ecu its only 50 or something also if your having electrical prob with windows try checking in the little rubber strip that carries the wires from the a-post to the door as the wires are common for breaking in this area ,sorry but i dont know where you can get wiring diagams other than vw if they will print em off for you if your anywhere near stoke on trent i know the vr wiring looms inside out as i have done q
  6. As long as your competent with engines and follow the guides it really isnt that hard a job i charge 500 supplied and fitted for chains and tensioners and 75 for the clutch which is generally worth changing while your doing the job most garages dont like the job and thats why they try to charge the earth so as to scare you into going somewhere else the parts come to between 200-300 depending where you source them from and i can do the job in a day .but as sanky has said unless they are quite noisy i wouldnt bother just yet as the later models like yours have the better longer lasting tensioner
  7. hi mate you can put the engine in and mate it to your v5 gearbox but you will need the four motion loom for engine and all the 4 motion ancilleries i;e ecu maf etc also the bits like clocks and key unless your going to get your key recoded to new ecu ideally you could do with a damaged 4 motion so that you have all the parts you need .
  8. if you just block that pipe off it eventually causes issues because the engine cant breathe properly also ive found it causes them to cream up the oil a little because there not breathing properly.imo its worth the cash that it costs for the breather valve because its meant to be there also if you leave the valve off and put rubber hose straight through you tend to get more oil in your throttle body so you have to clean it out more often .
  9. the auxillery pump should run same as the golfs and if pump is ok its probably down to the black box unit that sits just in front of your water expansion tank mate as this controls your rad fans and auxillery water pump.
  10. be careful with upper oil fed tensoiners if you take the obd1s out of engine you heve to release the pressure in them before putting them back in or they can cause very bad engine damage ive seen them sheer cogs off the chain drive due to pressure not being released to reles pressure in the earlier spec tensioners you noeed to stick something like welding wire in the little hole in the end of the tensioner you will know when you have achieved the right result because it will squirt out some oil and it will squeeze in so its a shorter unit.cheers carl.
  11. try cleaning out throttle body mate and then reset it to do this leave drivers door open with ignition lights on youll here a buzzing coming from throttle body when it stops buzzing it has reset and should be ready to start this is something you can do quite easily and from what you have described is the most common problem i have come across on the obd2 setup.to clean throttle body i just remove it from vehicle and give it a good clean out with wd40 and a rag.cheers carl.
  12. the buzzing you are hearing is more than likely your auxillery water pump mate which sits directly next to coilpack virtually touching it and its meant to keep running for a while after you turn engine off.cheers carl.
  13. Its also worth checking the exhaust is ok because if its blocking it could be causing your lack of power and it can cause it to overheat if the gasses are not escapiing properly also the build up in preesure could cause it to start leaking aswell so its worth having an exhaust check to make sure its ok mate.cheers carl.
  14. you can use the vr rack mate just get the arms off of a 16v to make your track right unless you have vr subframe then just use the vr rack they are much nicer to use also if you are still on manual steering you will need to change the knuckle that goes from the column to the rack and i think you will find the difference between the 2 16v racks is the number of splines where the knuckle joins the rack.cheers carl.
  15. It had obviously been like that a while aswell because the rail that part sat on has some fair old grooves in it aswell tbh i cant believe it was still running as well and as quiet as it was.
  16. Hi mate i can supply and fit you an engine at a good price call me on 07957 204 365 if you are interested cheers carl.
  17. you dont have to drop sump to do the wishbone just undo rear engine mount and raise that side of engine a bit with a large block ov wood on a trolley jack.its a lot less hassle than dropping sump and takes a fraction of the time.
  18. I have known faulty alternators to cause a drain on battery when not running.
  19. What i mean is it could be off of a later vw not a vr as a lot of later vws have similar cats but with lambdas before and after cat.
  20. Hi mate i can do the job for you at a very competitive price and a good mod for a little more power would be a set of cams ,it might also be worth checking if your chains and tensioners have been replaced while engine is in bits.cheers carl.ps if interested you can reach me on 07957 204 365
  21. What mk4 calipers do you have mate because as far as i know the only thing you should have to do to make them fit is change the brake hoses coming out of calipers .
  22. I have known the blue temp sensor to cause a slight loss in power and make it crap for starting but i havnt come across 1 causing a missfire yet,the most common thing ive come across for intermittent missfire is coilpack.
  23. Hi mate if its engine side of cat its for lambda probe if its at back of cat ie tailgate end of cat its probably a cat off of a later car that has lambda before and after cat you should be able to just stick a bolt in this hole but make sure you get 1 with the right thread on it and do it up tight otherwise it will just blow it back out which im guessing is what has happened.
  24. Hi mate i have had cars do this before because of the blue temp sensor being faulty basically they send the wrong signal once car is warm so when you go to restart its giving wrong readings to ecu and wont start im not saying this is your prob but its worth looking into as the blue sensor is only about £15 try warming car up then turn off make sure it wont start then unplug blue temp sensor and try starting car again if it then starts this is your prob.
  25. Hi mate if you are on about the 1 with the bolt through the centre of it this is a knock sensor the crank sensor is to the right of oil filter right by the front engine mount bracket and is secured with a little allen bolt.
