lol im waiting for the day you get yours back john so i can see but i reckon i stand a good chance mate when ive fitted me eaton im picking up tomorrow. -
At 80k if your car is n reg or younger id advise to get the chains done aswell because it wont be that long before they need doing if it is newer then the tensioners are better and will last a bit longer.
-
Yep thats rapid eneough mate and price wise it depends where you take it and the level of which you want it doing personally when i do head gasket i like to do stemseals clean up and reseat valves and get everything as clean as poss but some places will just whip off head tidy up a bit and put back together also its worth checking history of car because if it hasnt had tensioners done it might be worth getting them checked whilst your at it the parts alone will cost about £150 for the head gasket set new head bolts oil and filter and anti freeze oh and the sealing paste for the chain cover a

I agree with vr mike because the gti gearbox struggles to cope with the power they already have i get asked for more mk3 gti boxs than any other.

Just to confirm i checked a linkage today and yes your missing a clip mate.

Hi Mate yes this stuff is pretty accurate it lets you know there are exhaust gasses in the water system allthough it can give misreadings if not used to excact instuctions generally though if it changes colour quite rapidly from blue to green then yellow it would suggest its time to think about replacing head gasket and no mate the oil does not affect it allthough if you are that low on oil it would suggest your burning oil or you have a leak when you have head gasket done make sure thay change valve stem seals as they come in head gasket set but also get them to check for play in pistons beca

id just like to mention if anyone is putting spacers on wheels its a good idea to get wheel bolts that are the same length longer as the spacers to make sure wheels are still held on properly its not much fun watching your wheel whizz past you .

Il check to make sure tomorrow but im pretty sure off the top of my head that yes there should be a little circlip on that metal rod to stop the white plastic bit sliding off of it.cheers carl.

yep hes still puntopete at mo lol until we can find a decent shell for me to put his running gear into and what about parkhouse round by my yard as its nice and quiet of an evening and theres loads of room for plenty of cars and nobody to complain about anything. -
After a recent bit of hassle with a breakers yard i figured a name and shame section might be a good idea for warning vr owners of places that might try and rip them off.

Oh yes and even the top guide rail is knackered i dont believe this engine has only done 83000 from my experince with vrs but if it has its done it on the same oil it left the factory with is my reckoning. Ive also not come acrross a vr before that is this black inside head they are generally golden even jezmoz 140000 engine is golden inside . clearly this engine has not been looked after properly and i for 1 would not be wasting my time fitting it . Well after moaning at the suppliers of engine known as FENNLAND BREAKERS and having them try to fob us off and being assured they would pick it up today which the havnt done and having them say that they would be charging for the collection if nothing is wrong which they will no doubt try to claim if the do come and collect ,i figured it was worth 10 mins of my time to whip off the top chain cover and get some pics of the tensioner rail oh and they assured me that engine defo didnt rattle so heres a couple of pics to see what you guys think.oh and i have engine number at work so i will post up

yep i can vouch for that took rocker of jez new supposedly 80000 mile engine today to be confronted by the worse looking vr engine inside that ive seen his 140000 mile engine is looking better inside so im gonna be screaming at the company that sold him it tomorrow and telling them to come and collect and give money back .and try and get some compensation for hassle that they have caused cos i now got a beautiful white engineless vr taking up space in my workshop til we can source another engine i reckon its done more like 180000 at least by looking at it.(new engine that is)

Help me price up a few jobs that I need to do guys
kilokilla replied to hellsVR6's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
pmsl not since i give up the wacky backy mate . -
the vdo clocks need different sensors to run them you can get a splitter for the oil one so that you have the standard sensor and the one for the vdo coming off the same sensor hole if you get what i mean check that you have something like this fitted to youe engine if not that is why they wont work properly.im sure you can get the relevent parts from big boys toys.

if the gap on 1 of the plugs as closed up it can cause the plug to short out the system and cause all kinds of electrical probs check you havnt dropped a plug in to hole and accidently closed the gap.
-
i think you will find it controls the fans and auxillery water pump mate.
-
you will need the right ecu to go with the loom cant you just get your ecu remapped to go with the engine the 2.9 ecu should run the 2.8 ok as long as its not mapped for the s/c.

you said windows have stopped on one side have both windows on that side stopped if so i doubt its down to a motor i would be double checking the wiring that goes in the rubber strips between the door post and doors because they are real common for snapping where the doors are frequently open and shut.
-
sounds like a bad earth mate check all your connections to that light if you have a loose connection inside light it causes them to arc and spark and generates heat which can melt wires and messes with the voltage which can blow the bulbs.
-
its very rare for chains to snap and you can use the later tensioners for the single chain on the double chains aswell imo 2 chains are better than 1 if 1 snaps the other will keep the engine timing in tact and stop you from taking out valves and pistons but thats just my opinion.
