draining flushing changing coolant
28v6r replied to stockers's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Errr... it would leak...badly, been there done that got it all to do again &| .. currently waiting on a new radiator.. but if its never been touched then its liable to have perished or became brittle in the heat...Mine had.. x) -
Its starting tae get quite thick up here and whiting us out, so be careful out there as its a little errr...homade heated seat time, so take it easy and have a safe journey ... just watched a TT coupe try to pull out in front of white van man in the snow and..... hit it instead!!! So as an Old 80s police show used to say..."Lets be careful out there..." Safe Journey!!

Errr...But Why? The starter turns the block over, therefore if as you say the engine turns over then the starter is working... regards the lack of spark, are you sure you reconnected everything, i.e there is an earth wire that should bolt onto the Dizzy, probably on one of the screws that hold the cap on, if this is missing then "No sparky". Take the plug leads off individually and put an old plug in and see if theres a spark by earthing it to the block, i.e touch the block using insulated pliers otherwise you'll get a mighty kick out of it.... !dodge :@ Check the Cap to see that the centre

Change the relay back for the old one first it may be that the relay was insecure in its holding... then check for the fuel pump priming as you turn on the ignition, yes, as you are about to start the car you should hear the pump buzz/hiss very quietly if its loud then the pump maybe on its way out. I suggest going back to the old realy only because in your previous postings you mention that It starts...seems a logical place to start...

Dunno if its the same on my Passat.. however the sender is in the grill along side the Fog lamp. You can get at it from both the outside by removing all the vents/grills or alternatively from down the driverside wing beside the headlights and may require the headlight/radiator removal to get at it... all depends how easy you want to make it...

If its any consolation.....Mines Dragon green 2, and this weeks been a ball 4 me.... I have a VW Caddy van see, and it needed one of the "new" money grabbing MOTs !grr ...sooooo along to the Mot station and all is going well van is fleeing through... then, a grinning mechanic comes out fron underneath the van and says " I'm gonna have to fail you... the handbrake cable has just snapped on me" ~ ... yes, that cos you really yanked it on, I watched you... never mind, had to order 2 new cables..and have them fitted the next day, as they don't have then in stock! So I'm left with a van that has n

Me thinks you've answered your own question here.. have a look at the both sets of mountings.. I know on mine when I first got it, that the back mounting was US due to the heat off the exhaust... try that an see.. let us know how you get on..

Well ...so far a great Saturday for me... driving the VR out to a friends approximately 25miles away, baring in mind I gave her a good...**Ahem** ..thrashing last night on the M8 back from Edinburgh cruising at the Big Kahuna... not problems indicated there... then this morning... pulled away from a 3 series Bimmer only to see large puffs of smoke pouring out the back of the car (White) acompanied by the temp warning light on the dash, guage was still normal, no overheating ... ... pulled in and switched off, popped the bonnet only to find that all my coolant had disappeared outta the bottle a

Yeah... but there is another down fall of heated seats... they tend to prolong the errr... "noxious gases" when used...Poooh... Nasty!

Fuel Pump Relay, common fault.. tends to overheat then cut out, was told when I got mine replaced that it was a common fault in VRs , it cools and allows the car to redriven then it will repeat...its the bottom right relay in the fusebox as you look on to it.....

It may have been them, ABS system CANNOT be bled using the old pump the pedal to the floor bit, purely because the ABS pump retains the air and locks up therefore brake fluid has to be forced through the system. Also there maybe a pattern to bleeding the brakes that they were unware of.. Volvos have this along with errrr ...Mini Metros! Dare I mention them on the board... been there had that.. do the checks that I suggested above and let us know how you get on.. keep your eye on things as you go, but I think you'll be Okay and that your mechy has over exaggerated....

URGENT HELP - worst nightmare come true
28v6r replied to cadguy77's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
ERRRR.. You don't wanna know.... Yes you can, You can be even more technical and ues a stethescope, most just use a screw driver to the ear bit.. no I'm not kidding... the noise/ vibration travels up the screwdriver and allows you to "hear" the problem.. as to what sound to listen for .. well dunno really Big ends usually knock .. so it should be audible without a screwdriver.. then again the bearings should moan if theres a problem... -

How long does the standard cat last on a Golf VR6?
28v6r replied to matth76's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
What about an L reg 1994 still running an original Cat?? !lol -
The way to tell if the master Cylinder is US is to have the pedal pumped with the ENGINE OFF, and look in the brake fluid resevoir for bubbles and to notice if the pedal sinks or creeps to the floor at the same time . What should happen is if all is OK then the pedal becomes hard and stays Firm. Once the engine starts it will build up vacuum and all will return to normal... ON ONE THATS OPERATING CORRECTLY. What your doing here is exhausting all the vacuum and applying load directly to the master cylinder without servo assistance. There are tWo ways around this .. you can purchase a seal kit p
