[moved] where shall i mount my screen??
28v6r replied to bazz780's topic in I.C.E, Security an Electrical
I'd stick to dark alleys and lanes... you may have some problems explaining to plod, if you're caught "Mounting" your screen Ooooeeeeerrrr..... 8o) -
Unfortunately I can't help you there, I guess from knowledge that the Autobox on these cars are quite rare... I was looking for an Auto myself, with no success, I've even toyed with converting my manual to an auto for the comfort more than anything else and to cover my fathers car when its away for servicing n' what not. The boxes themselves generally last to around the 80k mark before giving problems, servicing on a regular basis i.e once every twelve months or 12k miles should prolong the life of the box, the box itself can be driven as a manual and should be done so every once in a while ag

Somebody "took your rear wheel arch moulding" ....I've got difficulty getting me head around this one, aren't they pop rivetted to the lip of the arch, or better still "Sikaflexed" to the body?? Surely it would take a lot of muscle to pull that one off.....No?? !amazed

Look for a Six Speed mate... more fun, better economy..

grinding noise from the drivers front anyone?
28v6r replied to madmonkee's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Try this for me mate... Do figures of 8 in an empty car park, at a reasonable speed if you can, and let me know what you hear... I'm thinking....Let you know whenyou reply your findings... -
What about Blue dials to suit the car Dean?? or would that be overkill...just a thought... an old way to repair, for the inevitable tail light on the mk1 Granadas when the red peeled off, was to use red nail varnish, what about a blue on clear??It is permanent by the way, we used to do it all the time when we all thought we were "The Sweeney" in our 3ltr mk1's and never got pulled for showing daylight....speeding maybe, but that's another story...

I notice a lot of you have commented on polished parts, nought wrong there, but have any of you taken it that one stage further and laquered after the polishing to preserve the shine and last longer?? No I'm not kidding, it can be done...just a thought from the custom car days...

Euro car parts are the main agent I'm told for Bilstein, and I'm sure that they'll be able to point you in the right direction....failing that try your browser and see what happens you may find them on the internet and a manufacturing address..Worth a try surely?? Eat yer porridge Dean!!! It will lever back without fear of damage, may look a little buckled but it sure won't foul the disc etc.Give it a try and see what happens, you'll find that most secondhand ones are buckled anyway so new would be the only way to go and I don't think they're cheap either... Oh! and most end up bent or buckled due to stone damage/debris and poor mehanics...(Not You I might add, but whoever repairs your "Baby") Try that, but I wouldn't bother too much, unless its a show car... -
Where is air con drain?
28v6r replied to The Absinthe Fairy's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Fair play to you again Sir!!! However, I thought R134a had a "Smell" to it and had the ability to put you to sleep No??? -

Sounds 'affy like you had a window or a door not closed right for that amount of water to get in or the door seal has perished a little... might not be as bad as you think, however I'd still be inclined to go around the car with a hose to check for any leaks....... My Bimmer has a leaking windscreen that obviously only appears when wet, doesn't appear though when the car gets washed interesting huh?? Oh! and the reason for tasting the fluid, is that coolant/anti freeze mix tastes sweet to the tongue...Don't ask how I know -

28v6r replied to The Absinthe Fairy's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Hi Claire, I don't think that the aircon is the answer that your looking for....reason: Aircon is a gas, R134a to be exact, therefore not whats causing your dampness in the footwell...admittedly there is an element of condensation occurs, but that's taken care of on the outside via the condensor, sometimes when the vehicle has been run and then stopped there are puddles of water/condensate that form underneath the car, but not inside.... How wet does the footwell get?? Have you tasted the fluid i.e is it sweet? reason I ask this is I suspect that it's the heater matrix that has gone on the car -
Not necessarily So.......... The old digifant engine (8v GTI) had this problem where by it was proven to be the oil pressure relay, the one that triggers or contains the "Buzzer" in the first place.... I'd try replacing the relay before "Open heart Surgery" The oil pump Should in theory be OK @ that mileage....... Worth a look surely??? just my tuppenth worth.......

L/H wheel front at angle??
28v6r replied to malsvr6's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Errrrmmm Nope! you are correct...it's called a "Hunter" alignment, the machine being manufactured by Hunter, there is another name for the same, a german one, but I can't remember it... This alignment sets all three settings up at once, Castor/Camber & tracking. It uses he back wheels as a datum and aligns accordingly... -
and the remedy is????........

He...He..He, We'll see if you've stil got that "Boy racer" part left in you when your 77, shall we?? !amazed Yes, I'd agree that autos are crap in most cases, however as it's my fathers, and liable to be his last (77) then you'll understand the auto part.. I couldn't get it to go above 30mpg!! &| dealer says that's the norm for this car as the 2.0ltr was quite gutsy....yet a hire car I had on a manual returned 39mpg... interesting though..
-
I'm looking for some info... I drove my fathers Bora 2.0ltr Sport (Auto) down to Kendal and the return on mpg was dire!! 28.9mpg sitting @ 70-80mph all the way!! &| I just wondered what anyone else got to the gallon. I expected a bit better than this.. . I just wondered what people thought... am I expecting too much?? The car is a 1999 model, 27k miles on the clock, FSH. Any ideas??
-
It won't be that EXPENSIVE so better taking it all, but yes you can just purchase the fan only...
-
Absolutely!! Even an Audi 80 one will fit (L/M/N reg) Try That, If I remember correctly, it's held on with 4x5mm hex bolts... could be wrong though..

[moved] Rebore the vr or new lump??
28v6r replied to madmonkee's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I'd heard that the 2.9 was a softer engine than the 2.8 and that the 2.8 wasn't prone to head problems like the 2.9 Dunno how true that was though... Curiously........where are you sited "Mad"??? -
Just had a look at recommended repair sites/garages/vendors etc... surely this can't be a wise idea to shame as it may result in the "Club" being sued for Liable or Slander.... Just a thought really.... somebody may look from these "Flamed" companies.........
