Was doing a bit of cleaning in and around the engine bay today and had all the air hoses/ MAF off etc.. had the hose that connects to the rocker cover off , as you look onto the engine from the Offside/Driverside wing.. spotted a small wire hanging out of the rocker casing vent.....and found a clump of rusty cruddy wire all coiled up in the metal vent hose. What I want to know is this a filter of some sort i.e wire mesh type?, should it be there?, what does it do? Can anyone who has a rocker cover handy look at the case vent at the driverside and tell me if it does have a function and reside i

If I didn't know better I'd have said it was a core plug of sorts... but surely that can't be missing off your vehicle..can it??

Yeah... Fourmo.. the Dawgs if its done right.. my mate has had his chipped on the 150bhp TDI engine.. and it made a hell of a difference...except going to Aviemore with his family an' he doesn't hang around... doing about the ton on the A9 when this pearlescent blue wif blacked out windows T4 flew passed him as if he wasn't there, said he felt as though he was doing about 50mph..

Call at yer Stealers, give them your reg and ask them to track the car on Dialogue.. They will be able to tell you all its history...there you will find out if its clocked or not...

Why?? My Audi 200 Turbo was 145k when it was done, My VR is 90k, and my Bimmer is 168k and all have been done at high mileage with no resulting problems, infact on my VR it freed of a sticky tappet... So I'd have to disagree there... Sorry...

Yeah.. and then you can tell us if any little girlies blow you off... or try too !amazed %-6

Yes, I have.. theres a trick to it.. buy two oil filters, a gallon of the good stuff (whatever you use) and a gallon of crap stuff. Now, you install the engine flush I use Asta 3000 as per QVC, run it for a fair few miles in the old oil, then warm the engine and drain.. now install the first filter and THE CRAP OIL , fill to the required level and run until warm then drain again .. this gets all the crud off the sump and out in the newish oil... remove filter and install new filter (second time) and fill with good stuff to required mark... never had any problems yet.. done it on a 200 Turbo

how to know if the chains have been done???
28v6r replied to jezmoz's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Antera has a point, OR take the car to the nearest stealer and as them to run the reg through "Dialogue" there, you will get any service info it may have had.. however if its went to a privateer then you 're back where Antera says.. contacting the previous owner.. Dialogue only works if it has FVWSH or partial.. there you will be able to obtain copies of old invoices etc... -
how to know if the chains have been done???

Rattle..Rattle.... Rattle...... noisy on startup, rattle when revved due to slack chain.. -
Jez.. yours sounds like the Thrust bearing needing replaced, failing that it could be the pressure plate..Vag clutches aren't always the best.. never had a pressure plate collapse, clutch plate was fine but pressure plate splines gave up.. hence no gears... or judder before packing up!
-
When you lift the clutch pedal.. Does the noise appear then?? and if you dip the pedal does the noise disappear? When you pull away do you reckon that the "Vibration" is apparent then settles down or is it there all the time?

Well spotted Ian....

Right peeps... I'm determined to get the misfire outta this... 1/Cleaned the Cam shaft sensor - as per cracking guide Nice One! 2/ new coil pack, mine was definitely shot, performance night and day... 3/ New Magnecor leads... Yep noticeable difference.. 4/ Throttle body, now immaculate.. And guess what... under damp weather only, she still has a very slight misfire... once the car warms up it performs fine no hesitation at all.. pulls better than ever.. economy is up too.. around 26 in and around town... just this infernal miss when cold/damp... mind you didn't dry the leads off then seal them
-
I've just been through this exercise... buy Magnecor leads.. the Dawgs danglies.. 10 year guarantee, better spark, livlier car what ya waitin' for. . cost for mine..

Not necessarily..could be that the pads are stuck in position and the caliper is at full extension on depression of the pedal, had this on my Caddy after only one week of being laid up, could also be siezed calipers... heres hoping....

Not sure I agree with this one, had no heaters when I first got the car, blagged one outta scrappies and hey presto heaters... heaters blew cold until then... now it appears to be happening again.. the engine temp is fine, sits dead centre of the guage, rises a little (tech term here - "Baw Hair") above the centre if in traffic but no more than... just thinking though as I type, it wouldn't be the thermostat now would it? it did this in an old Volvo I had as well... Hmmm so many possibilities....
-
Anyone got them? I'm suspecting that my resistor pack maybe on the way out as the heaters are not as hot as they should be on full. The Bottle hasn't lost any water, recently and both feed and return are hot... any ideas anyone??
-
Can't answer why.. mine came without badges, but then again its an Estate .. so I kinda like blowing off little Girlies in black Golf GTIs that flash to get past.... Very satisfying

Look in the archives for leaks .. there are various reasons for this including cracked expansion bottle, cracked thermostat housing (most common) leaky rad, leaky heater matrix (water in passengers well). These are the most common types of leak.. then again theres the inevitable head gasket. . any of them or combined could cause this...know the feeling I'm there too, however I think mine is the radiator going.... !sad

Well it all depends on yer budget see... cos I'm sure a new one costs
