  1. Sounds like the wishbone/subframe bushes which will explain the one click under accel/brake scenario..
  2. Right....who's up for some action ... Bidding starts @50....errrrmmm pence... my monies on the Audi!!! !amazed GO FOR IT OLLY!!!!!
  3. Hey Dean... Have you looked into the cost of parts and servicing?? If memory serves... you can ONLY take the car to the dealers for servicing, no where else as the software to Tech 2 is not available on the aftermarket, then theres alternative parts market...Do you know of any?? I sure don't ..afterall it's not as if you can just stroll into yer local GSF and order parts for a GSI now can you?? I'd look at an Early R32 or an S3 or better yet an S4... Wha'dya say buddie ? does it have potential???
  4. Actually yer in the right area, contact John Reade of Reade Engineering based in Northampton, He knows all and is a superb Engineering Shop... Give him a try..., There's also a couple of used turbos & gates advertised on Ebay at the mo, maybe worth a look, under Audi S4....
  5. Errr....And Me!! Top of the M74 me...
  6. There is a potential that when the engine was rebuilt that the timing chain was out 1 tooth, the engine would still run but be well down on power &| ....Yes it's true, been there had this....not good!!!
  7. Ain't Insom...Insum...Insem.... Awww Bugger! Sleepless nights a pain???
  8. Hey Dean! What ya doin' up @ 2.20am?? couldn't sleep or what??
  9. Errrrmm..Is that the same as "White jiz" Then :? ??? and if it means "Big Troubles" is that only because your wife or Gf (Might have)caught you firing this "viscous fluid" all over the engine bay?? !ill !ill 8o) [ Edited Wed Sep 15 2004, 08:37AM ]
  10. Yet another good one from you AC!!! He's right you know, make sure the butterfly is spotless before refitting then retry... [ Edited Sun Sep 12 2004, 03:50PM ]
  11. Seems like sound advice to me Acf... Try that Paula and see what happens, Is C&R Enterprises not near you or BRM Motorsport, both are reliable garages and have a strong reputation in the field, just a thought really....
  12. Hmmm... I'd go for a dodgy ISV on this one, it sounds as though it's on the way out and has a weak signal. Try cleaning it once more, working the "Door" with a screwdriver until spotless then lubricate with a little 3 in 1 oil on the door and spindle, remember , the idle may go all over the place initially before resetting... I'm not sure if MAF has an adjuster screw or not , this would allow you to adjust the idle a little and bring it up a touch to nearer 750rpm when warm, when cold it should go to 1200 - 1500rpm and settle quite quickly to a near perfect idle...Try that and see how you fa
  13. Here's a question fur ye... From cold, on a Cold start do the revs go up over the 1k mark then settle back to the 500rpms??
  14. Errrrmmm ...Can I have your "Glasses" please Acf? Her wheel is very slightly turned to the drivers side I think, hence that Illusion, otherewise I'll have some of what your drinking... How to scare a you or what Paula ?? anyways... have a close look around the drivers side of the engine bay, look at the fan belt in particular to see if its slightly wet, or further back on the chassis leg near the bulk head (same side) let me know what you see.... Also look around the bay for crystals on any of the hoses ( dunno if you use the pink "stuff" or not for yor antifreeze, if so the crystals woul
  15. Oooops ... another thought there Dean, It reprogrammes itself to the ECU once cleaned, it's like fitting a new valve, it has to recalibrate(??) itself to the signal from the ECU, give it a day or so, if it still does it then I'm affraid the valve ist Kaput!
  16. Errrr... zeems like ist "Kaput!!!" Ya??? Yeah, I think you've had it there matey, doesn't sound good, see if you can purchase one off GSF first, secondly buy a VW Drivel (Sawwwy.. Driver) and scour the breakers, thirdly contact Draco2000 (Pete, is this right, I can never remember??) on Ebay along with Volkswarren, Volksbits and see if any have picked up any on their surplus stock travels.. all are bound to be cheaper than the stealer, incidentally phone them and ask for a price also, as they're "supposed" to operate a 4plus scheme where there is discount for older cars.. Try That and see how
  17. WOW!! Deano questions, questions, questions.....Have you been meddling again?? 1/ The valve is SHUT on cold start and progressively opens as the engine heats up. Kinda like a manual choke, it closes the butterfly when cold riching the mixture , then as you notice the temp start to climb you progressively put the choke in so that the Butterfly remains open and the mixture returns to a leaner mix for normal running. 2/Dodgy valve - poor idling, hunting, difficult to start when cold. Can be overcome though by using the throttle. No permanent damage occurs, more an annoyance that the car doesn't
  18. Thanks ac for the "laymans terms" I guess that's what I was driving at...
  19. Ahhhh... but that was done to see if anyone out there was paying attention .... now about this helicoiling bit... :? :?
  20. Just got the VR back from an independant specialiist and was informed that one of the plugs had been Helicoiled, meaning that somewhere in a past life some "Ar**" bandit has cross threaded the plug and stripped it's thread... Now my question is this a/ How safe is Helicoiling, especially on a pressurised part i.e plug?? And b/ How many of you on the board are aware that your car may have had this and have it currently on their car?? Otherwise the Ol' Gal passed a major service and was told hat she was in good nick for her year '94. Incidentally the car was in for a MAJOR service, water pump &
  21. I don't think so... If I'm not mistaken the ECU has to be of the same serial nos as your original as it's designed to operate certain functions in tandem i.e the ICV Valve for instance, has to be paired to the controlling module, ie if it's a later car, it may have a different resistance therefore not operate correctly... Sawwwwwyyyy
  22. Also check the throttle body for cleanliness, If it's black then Clean Immediately with carb cleaner until spotless, make sure that there is a very fine gap around the butterfly (if held up to the light!) then reinstall... also check the proximity switch on the throttle body that it's set correctly and "clicking" when the butterfly is open..
  23. Errrrmmm.... Forget the Drinking water bit, "WHERE THE "F" AVE YE BEEN????" !amazed "Board's" been to big with out Ya!!! Welcome back..thought my best friend hadn't told me something... (Poooooooo) [ Edited Fri Sep 03 2004, 06:06PM ]
