  1. is it under the rear seats? If so, I have that as well. I had a look under the car and the exhaust is moving about at the centre section
  2. I had to swap the red and yellow wires on both my Mk3's over so that the HU turned off with the ignition.

    Gear Gaitor

theres one on ebay now http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-MK3-VR6-LEATHER-GEAR-KNOB-MK2-GTI-16V-G60-VENTO_W0QQitemZ4585037982QQcategoryZ9889QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  4. Bit of a long shot, but i had the same symtoms & thought it was the immobilser. It turned out to be a corroded earth strap on the starter motor (braided type). It looked ok, but when i pulled it slightly it just disintegrated.
  5. You sure its a proper storm? As said previously, i though that they were only available in green or blue. Check the log book to see what that says, or check the VIN against what VW reckon it is.
  6. If you do do it then remember that the arches may cause rust to appear quicker. My Mk2 rusted behind the plastic arches as water collected behind them.

    Central Locking

Can you hear the centrall locking pump whirring at all? If you can you probably got a loose connection to one of the vacum hoses going to/from it. Check the pump, which from memory is housed in the boot behind one of the rear lights.
  8. To remove the HT leads from the top of the spark plugs you need a special tool, or else you will knacker your HT leads trying to pull them out. The Golf came with the tool - Do you have a plastic tube like thing attached to the bonnet stay? If you have then thats the tool, if not you can buy them seperatly. Note: If you are fortunate enough to still have the tool, remember its plastic and will melt if used on a hot engine. The coil pack is bolted to the RHS of the engine (it has all the HT leads going into it). The pack about 6" x 4" and is black. However, you may not have a coilpack and
  9. As its getting wet these days this sort of behavior can happen due to damp in the HT/Spark side of things. Check that the HT leads are connected firmly into the coil pack/distributor. Also check for cracks in the coil pack housing. Ive got a hair line crack in the coil pack which makes the car judder slightly when damp. As the engine gets hot, the damp evaporates and car starts to behave itself.
  10. Its neat, so requires dilution. Dont buy G12 as it doesnt mix with G11 (blue). make sure you get G12+, which is safe to mix with G11 & G12. In fact i dont think dealers sell G12 anymore, only G12+. Try gsf car parts - thats where i got mine from.
  11. Any one removed their starter motor? How difficult is it. i've has a look and it all seems a bit tight in there.
  12. I had mine done at lap-tab in Birmingham (under Spahetti Junction). Cost
  13. I mainly do motorway miles, so... 102 - 104 on motorway Up to 110 when driving enthusiastically in summer. I have a Corrado block, but was seeing similar temps with the 2.8 golf block as well
  14. No worries. One thing i would do is put the car on blocks. The RAC say recommend it if you are laying up the car for 12 months+, but I would err on the side of caution and take the weight off them. Also, prob a good idea to ask for advice on best place to support the car from when on blocks. i read that on some cars the jacking point isnt necessarily the best place to long term lift the car.
  15. Check out the RAC website: http://www.rac.co.uk/web/carcare/advice/general_help/laying_up_a_car
  16. Called a mobile air con guy from the yellow pages in Leicester. I called a few and they were all around the same price.
  17. Top stuff, didn't think about moving it to the other side. I guess I'll give it a go - any more info or pics of it relocated?
  18. I normally leave the part where I shred my knuckles to when I have to undo the sump nut !lol Thanks for the replies
  19. Cheers for that lads. I'll stay clear of the smaller nut. I un-did it with mole grips last time and as you say was worried about breaking it. Only problem is that I have a strap wrench, but its just wont grip. I suppose it may come off with brute strength as it was only serviced about 4 months ago.
  20. What size socket do i need to undo it? As its plastic i dont want to use mole grips etc...
  21. I know how you feel. Mine was off the road for a few months. Couldnt stop smiling when i got back in it.
  22. I was advised against using it in an older car (Mk2 Golf), as some of the slugde may actually be stopping oil leaks. Dont know how true this is though. I dont use it in the VR as i change oil and filter every 6k anyway. I suppose you could fill it up with cheap oil, run it for a few hundred miles then change it for the brand you originally wanted.
