  1. also try www.totalengine.co.uk they offer engine rebuilds and remanufacter. As they say on their website give em a call on 01270 251152 for a quote. Not heard any opinions on them though.
  2. I once bought an exhaust from there a few years back and had a bit of trouble. First off it was late, then they sent the wrong one, then a broken one, then finally the correct one, which had a dent in it, but by that time i had had enough of posting exhausts back and forth so just kept it.
  3. I finally got round to fitting my tweeters properly in the dash. only problem is that they sound very harsh. Had the same set in my last golf where they sounded fine running off a sony H/Unit and Alpine amp. Only difference now is the H/U is a kenwood. Is there any way of reducing the harsh tinny sound of the tweeters without changing the H/U? Ive set the x-overs to the least harsh setting as well. They are MB Quart Discus components by the way.
  4. You can get recon/remanufactured engines from http://www.vegeuk.com . They sell a VR6 unit for £1595 on an exchange basis. There supposed to have a good reputation. They post you the engine(!), then when its fitted you post your old one back and get your deposit back.
  5. ---Binliner --- What does the carbon canister actually do? Ive been trying to geta cold air feed to my BMC & have an intermittent problem with my carbon canister on VAG-COM - so removal would kill 2 birds with one stone for me.
  6. I'd definatly go with a amp/sub rather than 6x9's. I used to have 6x9's, but am currently running a 10" JL Audio sub running of an Infinity amp (not the best) and have a set of MB Quart Discus componets up front. If your strapped for cash i'd recommend buying a discontinued amp from somewhere like www.bassjunkies.com and running front compnents and sub from the amp, and the rear speakers from the head unit.
  7. Ive got rust patches on both door sills, a rust spot on the bottom of drivers door, and the biggest pain to get done is a rust spot where the windscreen meets the roof, slap bang in the middle. Didn't know silver was a pain to match - guess which colour mr VR is...?
  8. I got mine from Stealth Racing in Warwickshire. Heres a link to their US website, so you can get the part no's http://www.bmcairfilters.com
  9. I cant say i have noticed too much of difference in the power since putting the BMC on. But then again i only have a standard exhaust at the moment & my engine isn't running too well at the moment either. Makes an ace sound though hey?
  10. Ive got a BMC CDA induction kit. I've lost the box / instructions for it. How often do you people who have one clean the filter? And what do you use to clean it? Shail
  11. Stealth Racing are about 15 mins away from work, so i might go there when i have plucked up enough courage!
  12. mine sounds a bit like the link. But the noise comes from the drivers side. Local VW specialist said my big end bearing was shot. New engine time. He said he's seen quite a few 80-90k engines with the same problem. I am well and truly gutted.

    MPG

I get about 180 miles. Mainly motorway 70-80mph. Used to get about 120 miles when i wasn't doing m'way & just a 4 mile trip to work and back
  14. Cheers for that, i'll give em a ring this afternoon.
  15. Just read the 'Stupid Ricer' thread. Following on from that, and a conversation i have just had with my sister - whats the biggest balls up you've ever made trying to DIY fix your car? Mine was filling the coolant system on my first golf with screenwash. Oh, and the conversatoin with my sis? - she rang to tell me that she topped up her oil & now her car was making funny noises. I asked what she had done, the reply -" i checked the dipstick & it was at 'Min', so i poured oil into the engine until it was full". Yes, she is currently at the road side waiting for the AAto come and drain
  16. I need to get a few bits of rust/chips sorted on my car. the main problem is rust on both door sills. Can anyone recommend a decent place to get the work done in/around birmingham or warwick? Cheers

  18. Just a quikie. 1. Does anyone know the spec for VW Synta oil ?! 2. Can you mix different oil when topping up ?! Its just that i've got Synta in the engine, and a stack of Magnatec in the shed & she needs topping up every now and then. Shail
  19. Having been caught out with rust on Mk3's id say check for rust at: 1. Door sills - where there is a join in the rubber door seal at the bottom. Check under the seal. 2. Boot - just under the wiper arm 3. Rear arches - where the bumper meets the arch. Oh, and silver is the way to go. [ Edited Tue Mar 16 2004, 01:25PM ]
  20. Cheers. (have exact same problem on the same wheel). Hmmm, mum was right all along - i am very lazy, but i find if you sit around for long enough someone will always come up with an answer!
  21. ~ indeed. You must be gutted mate. Any lasting damage? [ Edited Fri Feb 20 2004, 12:49PM ]
  22. Ninja - i know it has 6, you know it has 6 - it was their excuse for the extra £50 - thinking i didn't know, trying to blind me with science!
  23. Dubloke - I do like to have a go at fixing things myself - i just dont trust myself with life/death parts like brakes! But drama over - got all the parts for around £90 - just standard discs etc. Mates fitting them tommorow for £50 ish. Also - VW tried to over charge me £50 for the service - they said that it had 6 spark plugs instead of 4 - i asked if the plugs were gold plated at £25 a throw! Then they came out with "the sparks are special", then (this is the best) - "is your VR6 a diesel?" OMG these are main dealers!! Didnt pay the extra fifty in the end - small victory s'pose.
  24. Havin my 80k service done at the local dealership. Just got a call about some things that need doing on the car. I nearly had a heart attack at the prices they charge. Rear discs / pads and bearings = £312. Ball joint & wheel alignment = £280. I know that i can get the rear discs done for about £100 all in as my mates a mechanic. Anyone know how much of a ball acher the ball joint is to change?
