  1. 10" sub sounds better for punchy bass to be honest. I find 12" subs a bit too boomy. I think the smaller box for a 10" sub - but check the manufacturers recommended volume for teh box. Cant go wrong that way. Ive got a JL audio W0 10" sub - sounds the nuts with the right amp.
  2. Cheers, not me being thick then - thats a relief
  3. Agree with Nerih, just get it checked ASAP. I had a rattle a while ago thinking it was chains, thought i'd wait a while before getting it checked. Waited too long - engine went bang, wasnt the chains but was big-end problems which totally wreked teh engine. May have been able to fix it if i'd caught it earlier - that was a 97R on 90K!
  4. There should be a sticker under the bonnet. On the black metal panel- see attached - red circle above O/S headlight. Mine says R134a
  5. If I have more than 50 new items unread in the forum, how do i get to see all of them? If I press 'click here to see list of new items' it cuts it off at 50. Am i being a bit thick? (belive me it wouldn;t be the first time)
  6. Diiference is in the different chemicals they use, so cant be mixed together as they'll react and sludge up your system. G12+ has been made so that it can safely be mixed with G11 or G12.
  7. Clips - make sure you use ones with smooth inside surface, as ones with 'teeth' on the inside face will wreck the samco (so i was told). Coolant - the capacity of the cooling system is 10L total.
  8. Seein as youve got samcos on it may be worth a few more flushes, but you'll have the gunk in the rad and the heater matrix. For info - i cleaned my header tank but removing it, putting it in a bucket of boiling water with a dishwasher tablet in there. Let it soak and attacked it with a bottle brush.
  9. Got same thing on mine. Ive flushed it a number of times, its got a bit better, but not a lot. Have a look at the insides of your coolant pipes - they'll be coated in orange muck, plus the inside of your rad will be the same. Try reverse flushing your radiator (take it out, turn it upside down, stick a garden hose in it and flush). you could also try a radiator flush, couple of quid from halfords etc...
  10. Use G12+ (G12 plus) this will mix with g12 without probs. GSF do it for about
  11. Anyone used / seen 99RON super unleaded at Tesco? Apparently cheaper than Shell Optimax at 98RON. As Tesco say ...."every little helps"
  12. Looking good. What type of spray did you use on the plastic bits?
  13. Anyone bought one? If so what colour did you buy to get a good match to the boot carpet (thats assuming all VRs have the same colour carpet). Mines a sort of dark grey BTW
  14. I replaced mine a while ago - cost just under
  15. Ive got an Autowatch 160rli - had no problems whatsoever with it in 2 years.
  16. Cheers for the replies. Just had it done, mech reckoned it looked like a defective bearing, and not to do wth the other garages fitting.
  17. I had mu OSR wheel bearing done about 8 months/ 10k miles ago. Its started to make noises again. I'm going to get it changed tommorow (at another place), but in the mean time i'm going to call the garage who originally did it, but need some tech help so i dont sound like a total idiot. Question is : is there a way to temporarily 'fix' a noisy bearing, if there is what is it? Also how long should a bearing last and is there anything else which could make a bearing prematurely wear out. Ta.
  18. My sills were the same on my 97 vr. Happens underneath where the rubber door seal has a joint.
  19. Its always the way it goes if you get a arepair via insurance companies. They use selected places who charge the earth. If they do say its a write off ask your ins comapny if you can use a body shop of your choice. they may say yes, but wont guarantee the workmanship - but if you know a good bodyshop that wont be a problem. Also seriously consider your no claims bonus - it can make a big difference if you loose 1 year on a group 17 car - thats assuming you have bene driving long enough to get any NCB. Had a simialr experience when i owned a Mk2 Golf - would have been a wrtie off if id gon
  20. Ive got a 2.9 block from a 'rado on mine, gearbox was a straight fit. I used the ECU / loom from my 2.8 engine. Just swaped the block over - kept everything else from the 2.8 (manifold, coil pack etc..)
  21. Looking at pics 3 & 4 you can see how the golf has evolved, a lot of the lines are still there. VR looking good - yet to see it on my drive thru B13 every night after work!
  22. Canr edit my posts this evening (11pm). Was ok earlier (3pm). May be a gremiln my side of things
  23. First off welcome, im sure you'll enjoy the VR6 experience, warts and all. 1) Pushing the stalk back and lettting go should start the intermittent rear wiper, but for info, even if you push it a little way a little squirt of water always comes out and then it starts to wipe intermitently. Dont know why it doesnt inetmittent wipe after that on yours. May be the wiper relay - see www.vagparts.com they sell these, or might be cheaper to go to VW dealer - thats if it is that thats fooked. 2) the Netherlands, which is only 300 miles from Wolfsburg. 3)Sounds like you have an aftermarket immobilise
  24. Not too sure, but could you have cooked one of your relays?
