  1. Looking at what the bits go for, I can pull of the quick stuff; Schrick £800, Leather interior (is mint) £300, bumpers and side trims (painted highline)?, wheels and tyres (I have spares), hella mk4 style lights and trade in the new tax disk - in a short time I'm looking at £1500 easily. I dare say I could strip some other bits off too. Seems like lunacy as it has a 12 month ticket though, I'd rather give it to somebody for that sort of figure and let them enjoy it. 3 week old fully synthetic oil anyone!?
  2. Well, I've had my VR6 for 5 years and it's been a pleasure. But I've started doing business mileage now and have just been allocated a car allowance, the timing couldn't be worse because I've just had a full service and MOT (sailed through - again!). Unfortunately, there is a stipulation that while reasonably flexible, the car must be less than 5 years old when purchased. I hadn't planned on ever parting with it but I'm really not sure what to do now. I suspect the car might be worth more in bits than all together but that seems a real shame as it drives really well - help me decide! 1997 3d
  3. It's taken a while but I finally got some new springs fitted by dlea (who has a new place for v.dub work now if you're wondering where he and Liam moved to). The old ones were saggy and easily bottomed out over those little rubber sleeping policemen things even at crawling speed. Took me ages to find some VR6 specific ones though, it's been a real pain. Loads of them list GTi/16v/VR6 but the VR6 is much heavier up front, hence the original sagging I guess. I checked with the manufactures and most of them said VR6... but not with aircon, which I have. Anyway, finally found some from AVO specc
  4. Sadly I can't make it this year, I'm climbing a mountain instead. Actually, I hope I'll be down by then, if not send the helicopter! Haven't been able to make it to any other shows either due currently living on very little income.
  5. Actually, that's pretty low xyber! Lower than my 30mm which has sagged. Nice looking car by the way, love those wheels.
  6. I was looking at the Eibach range and managed to find some actual info on them (most of the others don't seem to want to part with actual info on their products...) the front springs at rated at 980Kg which is only just above the standard VR6 spring (950kg) so I don't know if they're uprated enough given that they're lowered as well - that's the Pro Kit at least, I only want a minimal drop really so the sportlines are out. I've managed to find AVO springs that are purely rated for the weight of the VR, plus H&R make some but a bit out of my price range. Supersport also make some TUV appr
  7. Yes, they have a good reputation but it seems odd that the springs are the same for the 1.4 as for the VR6 which has an extra 120kg up front? I can't see how the height will be the same between both cars on the same spring. Hopefully, somebody running them will chip with some info on that.
  8. Thanks for the offer GraLaw, they're a bit of an unknown quantity and I'd be paying dlea to fit them so it's more of a risk than just getting new ones I think. As I've heard nothing else yet, I'll probably plump for some Weitec springs, they're supposed to be decent quality I think. Or failing that, one of the others!
  9. I would like to change the springs on the front of my VR. Over the past few years they have sagged a bit and are running lower and it has to be said, slightly lopsided. Currently they are a "Proven products" full kit with a 30mm drop - shortened dampers, I presume. So, I've been to see dlea and he's suggested that the dampers are fine on the front, theoretically that's good news! I guess I just need some replacements springs and Dave said ideally I should get some specifically for the VR due to the extra weight up front, 100kg according to the handbook over the GTi and TDi. The problem is, a
  10. I think the 205/55/16 is a mk4 sizing? The factory option 16" wheel when fitted with 215/45/16 but I always thought that was a bit big. 205/45/16 I think, gives a similar rolling radius to the standard, but use the calculator in the sticky thread at the top of this forum to check your sizes. On tyres, I like the Toyo Proxies T1R. Much more grip than the Goodyear NCT5's or the F1's I've had before, can't really compare with any others.
  11. I have a manual but there's nothing useful like that in it, it's just a basic user manual. The logic 900 is a dealer fit option I think, mine certainly comes with VW branding on the manual. I believe it's made by conlog though so that might be a place to look.
  12. I am also having problems, some kind git tried to force the window down while parked in Manchester. This broke the regulator but the motor seems fine. I bought a new regulator yesterday and fitted today but it when it reaches the top it sets back down to the half open position. I expect this is something to do with it's anti-trap function but don't know exactly how this works, or how to now fix it. I was able to edge the window up bit by bit under power until it closed so at least it's shut overnight. Any ideas? PS The 5 bolts seem to be located properly and the clip between the central cross
  13. Dave (dlea) and Liam did mine @ Manor Park Mechanics in Wilmslow. Do you need a clutch or do you just want one?
