    Your 1st car?

Mine was a Mk2 Golf Driver. 3 door, metallic light blue. It was ace! Really fucking slow though, but looked the nuts imho - until a fiat uno T-boned it that is. Insurance was
  11. Ive been after one for a while, but just cant justify
  12. I thought that, but all the have done is taken the VAT off the price shown. It goes back up to
  13. Knocking from the engine could be big end bearings or a whole host of other things. I would seriously walk away.
  14. I always find it a pain as the sump nut is on the back of the sump + I always get a shed load of oil all over the place. This thing is quick and very clean, plus its easier to dispose as it collects it. As for the leaving sludge at the bottom of the sump - ive been told that it doesn't do that. I know that Merc & BMW dealers use this method, infact i think that new mercs dont have a sump plug at all. Plus i change oil / filter every 6k. I just wanted advice as on some cars the pipe cannot get to the bottom of the sump, so if anyone has used one i'd be glad to know how succesfull you were
  15. I do my own oil changes and find the whole process a messy awkward job. Does any one on here use an oil extractor like on here? http://www.mailspeedmarine.com/ProductDetails/mcs/productID/104984 Extracts the oil via the dipstick tube.
  16. Just had another look under the car. As Tommo said there is a support under the exhaust between the back box and centre box to which rubber hangers are attached. My supoort has come off the exhaust allowing the exhaust to move horizontally. I guess it just needs re-welding to the exhaust.

    a/c controls

The A/C on the Golf is just the 3 dial affair. However, an option on the Golf was Climatronic which is climate control and has a digital control. As for a repair manual - Bently manual. Amazon sell them for about
  18. Jellsta - no earth strap, no start i'm afraid. The starter is a pig to remove (you need to support the engine). I bodged a new earth strap on. Its been trouble free for 12 months now. I got your PM, but unfortunatly no longer have the pic you requested. Basically: 1. The earth strap is bolted on one end (RHS of starter). I just unbolted it and attached the new one. Very cramped and a royal pain in the arse. 2. The other end of the strap is actually welded to the body of the starter motor. Fortunatly there was still about 1" of the old earth strap still attached to the body. I got a hea
  19. Have you got aftermarket rear lights? Even if you have standard ones remove them and check that the rubber seal behind the light is intact and seated correctly.
  20. There is a VW breakers in Smethwick called Volksmagic 01215412278. not been there, but bumped into the owner in gsf. He said he has a load of VW's there at any given moment.
  21. I'd say that the lambda sensor is your problem. A dodgy one would cause teh fuel/air mixture to be incorrect, which may be producing a rich mix, causing unburnt fuel to exit from your exhaust.
  22. Could be - try driving with the back seats down, if the sound is still there, i'd be inclined to rule out the hinges. I think mine is deffo the exhaust, might be a missing rubber hanger.
