  1. only '92 (golf this is) have dizzy. coilpack is better IMO, but costs more if it does die.
  2. is worth remembering that the quality of the tyres, and even the wuality of the alloys, will make a huge difference. though from my experience its far too easy to bend 17"s over potholes. as a general rule a car will be more progressive on the limit the higher the sidewall of the tyre. i haven't had 17"s on the vr6, but when i went to 17"s on my previous car it was very nervous. when i went back to the o.e. 15"s before i sold it i absolutely loved it, was much nicer to drive and noticeably quicker.
  3. it should be second from left on bottom row....bentley and haynes both say that. whats your prob with your wipers? sure the relays not missing?
  4. i think there is a special type of compressor tool for the vr6.
  5. you can get away without wheelspin at that rpm, as long as you slip the clutch loads, whcih ain't ideal...i do have tyres that excel in traction mind (uni's) and it was bone dry in summer.
  6. i'm pretty sure i saw the monte's fitted to a early red vr6 on cgti a while back...i actually think they're my second fav o.e. wheel after solitudes. have to keep my eyes open. any idea on the brands hatch's?
  7. just take your time to make sure its all back in as well as poss, or you'll get some squeeks and rattles.
  8. yeah, i thought they were....i don't think they were fitted to vr6's as standard. etka says 'gti, vr6' next to them mind.
  9. power seems to trail off just after 6k on mine. so about 6250 is prob best. yeah, forgot to mention, work out where your biting point it and then have the clutch just below it rather than at the bottom of the travel (can save a tenth ot two there). but do not sit on the biting point or you will kill your clutch. same goes for slipping it...its a risk, more you slip it (let is out gradually) more risk of damage to clutch, but will greatly minimise wheel spin. i must have the technique down quite well, as my clutch has still got lots of life and its done 120k...not that id do that many fast star
  10. he means the plastic (of the matrix) where the hose connects to is snapped off.
  11. i reckon (though have never actually been on a strip) hold revs steady at 4000rpm and slip the clutch as much as you dare. if you drop below the torque increase (at about 4000rpm) you're screwed. also, too much wheel spin is a killer. FWD sucks getting off the line.
  12. it'll be the dampers i bet....i have a full bilstein sprintline kit and it is harsh. stick to smooth roads is the only thing to do....it does handle awesomely.
  13. oops, i mis informed everyone....vr6 is actually a 3 channel abs system. still works well though! yeah, if you have a obd1 early pre '96 vr6 you'll prob only have 280mm front discs, and upgarde to later 288mm is a good way to improve it (you'd need discs, pads, calipers, carriers, flexi hoses). a lot of people say goodridge braided flexi hoses are really good....i've yet to try a set. another thing would be to check your discs are in good condition. theres nothing like a set of brand new discs and pads all round, and a change of fluid, to make brakes feel great...i wouldn't bother with any of
  14. having done my research on etka, have found there appear to be upto 6 different types of alloy fitted to vr6's as standard. though it may only be 4, as the other two may be non-uk, im not sure yet. the ones we already new about - solitudes, early bbs, late bss. but then theres also 3 other ones, they're vw only ones, and go by the name of 'monte carlo', 'brands hatch', and 'long beach' i'm pretty sure the monte's are the early 5 spokes - anyone got them and wanna take a pic? not sure on the other two...any ones know which is what?
  15. hard to say about rear headrest. looked on etka though, and the seats available in golfs were.... black leather sports (option all years, standard highline) (VL) cream/oyster (beaver) leather sports (option 7/94 on) (VM) purple (bramble) leather (option from 7/94, standard highline) (89) early blue (mauritious) cloth sports upto 7/94 (WV) early black cloth sports upto 7/94 (WT) late black cloth sports from 7/94 (XM) early cloth recaro (WF) option upti 7/94 late cloth recaro (AY) option from 7/94 ..thing was i was sure there was a third type of black cloth sports. maybe not. oh, it stated that
  16. yeah, i think the driving another car for a while trick is best. though, having said that....i have had two different reactions when getting back into my vr6 after using my mkII gti or lorna's polo 1.6 for a while...first time i went back i thought it was great. was fabulous, i even posted on here how much i enjoyed it. but, another time i did it i hated it...felt way too harsh and just plain uncomfy. but that is more the stupid susp kit than the car...it sucks, finally get the handling the way i want and ride goes to pot! i want both!
  17. yeah, i saw that a while back...almost fell for it! lol
  18. sounds great...don't forget to post loads of pics when you get back.
  19. compomotive MO's are best for clearance...but not to everyones tastes.
  20. well, the high oil usage may well have been cause of the thin oil. remember vw say upto 1 litre per 1k miles is acceptable, they're supposed to use more than most cars.
  21. you tried all the places i suggested jay?
  22. move! only answer really.
