  1. you sure you aint confusing oil temp with water temp? either way 70 is too low i'd say. i've seen oil temp go up to 110 in summer, which is fine according to the bentley. i think you don't worry till it gets mega high.
  2. yeah....use the handbrake instead! lol this is only what i would consider doing, do it at your own risk....but i'd prob pull out the abs fuse. but then again i have another car without abs so dont need to. best to try the brakes out at low speed first to see if it locks front first (if it locks rears first you cant do it, you'll have to leave the fuse in). and yes, eat this....it was the punto! lol they only have one abs sensor for the rear axle which is where the problem may have come from....but then again polos are the same and the abs works well.
  3. yep, thats obd2 for sure....wont be the isv then!
  4. its just a precaution....airbag is a bomb basically so you wanna be very careful with it. you're also supposed to be very careful not to give it any large hits, and supposed to store it upright.
  5. well, its not the engine mount per se, but the bracket that goes form the engine mount to the gearbox/starter is stressed. the bolt you need to do should be quite obvious, they're along the side of the starter and go through the engine mount bracket and into the block.
  6. mkIV cabrio (commonly known as mk3.5 as its basically a mkIII with a mkIV front end)...very very hard to find one though. normal mkIV wheels won't fit. is there an echo in here?! was just clarifying what you said.
  7. yep....i have one form a ford galaxy even on my golf!
  8. mkIV cabrio (commonly known as mk3.5 as its basically a mkIII with a mkIV front end)...very very hard to find one though. normal mkIV wheels won't fit.
  9. yep, its the abs working over time to compensate for the snow. warning, be very very careful in an abs car in snow, as it can overreact and actually back ALL your braking pressure off....i've had it happen (admittadely not in a vr6, which is a very good system) nothing beats manual brakes and steering (most noticeable conditions for loss of feel in pas) in the snow.
  10. yep, hope your loaded....can't imagine a 600bhp vr doing that many miles between rebuilds.
  11. just to warn you....you're supposed to tell your insurance co if you disable the airbag.
  12. vr6 and gti 16v were fitted with them.....not the gti 8v (or other models) though AFAIK.
  13. can i suggest you get diff bolts put in your next box then? it is a common weekness, i've just had to get hold of a spare box as mine have started whining.
  14. the thing whering under the bonnet is the additional water pump, you should be able to hear the fuel pump prime as you turn the ig on, but it can be quite quiet....its under the boot floor. there are ways of bypassing the relays to test them...if i had my bentley with me right now i'd tell you exactly what to do.
  15. i think you'll find its still for sale i can't afford £1k...i also may not be a vr6 owner for that much longer.
  16. if it does turn out to starter its fairly simple to fit, but is quite a pain to get to with all the crap thats in a vr bay. whatever you do you must supposrt the engine as the botls you undo will cause it to drop (the starter bolts are shared by front engine mount. its just a case of unbolting it all, swapping the starters, then bolting it all back in.
  17. i can't work out if everyone saying tornado red is taking the michael or not?! (i know binliner was tho ) someone on cgti has sprayed there gti bmw e36 M£ blue and it really works. would look really good with obd1 style bodywork IMO (i.e. grey arches/trim/top of bumpers)...but as a rule i'd say don't go away from near o.e. colours.
  18. there is a good reason to do it....there are people out there who own both vr6's and mkII 16v's...they may be looking for a vr6 part when this comes up and suddenly remember they need that as well. if it really bothers you that much you should get out more! lol
  19. oh, ok...missed that bit. i'm not saying its deffo not starter, i just think battery's more likely IMO.
  20. we're working on a guide to obd at mo. basically it swapped over in '96. if i were you i'd have the block out instead to do the chains, seeing as you already have the head off. stealth racing is very recommended, but may be too far south for you.
  21. i once had a starting problem that agarage reckoned to be the starter....i didn't believe them and got a new battery and it sorted it. what are the chances of the starter dying at the exact time of you fiddling with the stereo? and what are the chances of you somehow wearing down or even damaging the battery whilst fiddling with stereo? second scenario seems much more likely. not saying they're deffo wrong...but heres another one. if the starter was dead you'd still be able to open your doors! i'd try charging the battery first.
  22. very weird specs over there! i have pics of obd1 TB, does yours look identical to this -
  23. i have a pipercross panel filter in a drilled box....can't get a clip though. without the drilling it sounds standard, with drilling is nice and subtle.
  24. most likely you've ran the battery flat. only other thing you could have done is blow a fuse, but if its the stereo the fuse you blow should not cause the car to not start.
