i ot mk4 style lghts but no indicator's fitted to em, once i get round to smoothing my bumper in the new year im going to drill a little hole in the back of the dummy light (where a mk4's indicator is) and mount orange led's in there since i think doing a custom job big enough to take full size indicator bulbs might make the back reflector a bit flimsy and fragile, another option is to buy a strip of amber led's as used on work van's and mount them in the bottom of the fog/indicator hole prior to filling/smoothing it. kinda like day time runing lights but amber

clicking from front n/s wheel
gavinvr6 replied to jscaml's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
how bigs the bloody wheel weight lol? check that the cv boot is not split on that side as a dry cv joint will click as the casing is burning up and collapsing, but thats worse case. also try checking that the abs sensor hasnt come loose/broken and knocking on the abs speed ring -
ok thats fair enough, but is it possible to flash these ecu's or take the chip out and flash it, or am i looking at an expensive 'specialist' job? im not afraid of breaking things in the learning process and alsways wanted to try my hand at mapping

guy and gals. ii have a replacement ecu, for emergencies like since my car is now getting old. anyway the case say's its an af code ecu born 8/93 but when i opened it to check inside i noticed it had a removable 'chip'. am i right in saying early ecu's were solder in not pop in and that there is a possability this is an obd2 ecu in an obd1 case, ie i've been had also if this is an early ecu with clip in chip is it possible to flash these like later version's. i can get the relevent chip flasher thing thats the removable chips are put in to write em and am sure i can get the program/software b

my friend also drive's a 1.8 turbo tt but is quatro. and get's seriously big headed about how quick it is. my other friend drive's a mk4 r32. both standard as they are to scared to play with em, anyway the r32 driver say's he has trouble keeping up with the tt and that it will out accelerate his car. me on the other hand say's sod the science behind it, get the launch right and hang on for dear life. if he so much as stuff''s a single change or or short shift's anything stupid like that i think you can do it. at the end of the day its only a 1.8t and i can beat standard golf version's easily,

Rear brake upgrade....possibly
gavinvr6 replied to jesterwalker69's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
i recently bought mk4 rear calipers from a 1.8t to fit to my vr6 after being told they are direct swap, the only difference being the slightly larger caliper and that unlike the vr items they are alloy and dont seize. i was also lead to belleive that you can use original vr pad's/cables/brake line's and that they mount up using the places/bolts -
run a 2nd live from battery to led's then use the led earth lead to run upto the interior light, use the earth to swicth it on and off since the interior light is a negative earth switch. im not 100% but think it may work that way. my alarm used to turn on my dipped beam and my interior light when i armed/dis-armed the alarm, i think thats basically how i ran it. i'll see if i can find my wiring diagram/note's i made when i fitted it and see if im right any leccy blokes out there please feel free to correct me

the plugs should be gapped correctly if bought from vag. the steam sounds like condensation inside the rocker cover, i used to get it on my old mk2. its moisture in the top end, should be ok, but keep an eye for mouse on the filler cap, this will mean it needs a propper flush and top up. then put the pipe back and lose the breather filter. oil on plugs can be leaking from the top and squashed sealing rings allowing oil in or could be worns valve stem seals or worn rings over tightening could would cause squashed sealing rings so not a totally sealed cylinder. ie loss of power, poor running/id -
as per jim potter. i buy mine in single's at about 2 quid each lol. ok they aint the besty type of plugs but are ngk's, i cant afford to be spending £60 on iridium/platinum plugs anymore. next time you need some bungy gimme a shout and i'll tell ya a place in bordon you can buy em.

make sure the plug's are torqued to the correct amount and when you fit the leads use the vw tool, after you feel the lead pop on flip the tool over and fit the small end onto the top of the lead and give it an extra little push because sometimes when you pull the tool off it can pull the lead off slightly. also check the leads are back on in the correct order, i had 2 back to front and it ticked over ok then when i went to drive it was like a pig. also make sure the plug is fitted to the coil pack securely and that none of the wires into the plug are broken or damaged. sounds like a simple i -
oooo that looks like it will do the job, and at a price to suit almost everyone, typical i just bought a new coil pack thinking mine was failing when it turns out my leads are arcing lol, so i got a used but working coil pack if anyone wants it. (im keeping the new one) is this o34 one higher output than a stock coilpack?

get a 32. my friend was gunna buy a vxr then i let him take mine out for a drive and now the rest is history as they say, with a 53 plate r32 sitting on his drive, he decided he couldnt live without the vr engine in is life lol

does anyone have a fault code reader or vagcom that will work on an obd1 vr and is going thursday? my dog ate my adaptor lead and now its not picking up faults i know i have, and i really need to get my car scanned and cant afford garage prices

has anyone ever experianced a voltage drop on the signal from the ecu to the icm thats fitted to the coil pack, was thinking maybe a dodgy wire meaning as the signal alternate's from coil to coil its only telling the rear one's to spark correctly and the front are getting a weak signal meaning not much to boost up to spark strength if that makes sense. or am i way off the mark in thinking the 5volt signal from the ecu is amplified by the icm (ignition control module, thats mounted on top of the coilpack) then coils to generate the spark. i got a new coil pack delivered today so im hoping that
