  1. A bit of a long reply but I hope it helps. Have you changed your thermostat recently? If not I'd start there. If its only opening partially then it could be the cause of your water pressure and strange overheating problems. Hot & cold top & bottom hoses is a sure sign of poor circulation. As for the compression, did you do a cylinder leak test or compression test where you turn the engine over with the key? In the past I found these to be a bit innacurate. I have more faith in a cylinder leak test where compressed air is pumped into each cylinder individually when the piston is at TD
  2. I remember hearing of this in my days as a mechanic. Some cars were and still are fitted with a brake bias valve. When you had weight in the back and the car sat lower, the valve increased the amount of pressure applied to the back brakes as more effort was needed to stop a loaded car. As a result, under heavy braking with a car that had been lowered, it was possible for the back brakes to lock up. If I'm not mistaken this was more of a problem with rear drum brakes which were not very good to begin with, as only one brake shoe did most of the stopping. Disc brakes with ABS are ulikely to
  3. LOL. I guess I just haven't grown up yet. No wonder she's always going on about acting my age and not my shoe size
  4. I actually found that extremely funny.. Nearly fell off my chair. Did u catch the wheel spin as he changed from 1st to 2nd in the Civic. LOL :-d
  5. Thanks for that Mark. I had it booked in with them for this coming Wednesday but I rung them a couple of days ago to say I wanted a genuine VW windscreeen. Guy on the phone tried to fob me off as expected, by saying "they're all the same". I wasn't having any of it. It's going to take at least another week because they have to order it from VW but that doesn't bother me as long as its the right one and its fitted properly. I will be checking and double checking everything before and after its done. 8-|
  6. I've posted these before in the members rides section so sorry to those that have seen them already. Now. Actually these were taken last summer but nothing's changed [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1168564624_3494_FT152704_my_car_july_06_001.jpg][/lightbox] [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1168564624_3494_FT152704_my_car_july_06_003.jpg][/lightbox] [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1168564624_3494_FT152704_my_car_july_06_004.jpg][/lightbox] [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1168564624_3494_FT152704_my_car_july_06_006.jpg][/lightbox] and then.... :-( November 2005. Bog standard and as hig
  7. My K reg 1.8 GL. It was standard when I bought it (don't have that pic) but somehow got lowered, found itself a VR cloth interior and different rims, not forgetting a big-ass twin square back box. I even comtemplated a 1.8 T conversion on it Then I saw the VR light (i) [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1168563743_3494_FT152223_image009.jpg][/lightbox] [lightbox=../../e107_files/public/1168563743_3494_FT152223_my_mk_3_side.jpg][/lightbox]
  8. Thats the one Pete. Cheers guys. I knew I wasn't imagining things
  9. I'm in need of a new windscreen for my VR. Trunky & co use RAC windscreens but I remember reading a thread on here about them some time last year. I've tried searching for it but come up with nothing. I just wondered if anybody that's had their screen replaced has had a problem with the dark area at the bottom of the screen not being wide enough. It makes the edge of the dash and bulkhead visible from outside of the car. Not a good look imo. I hope that makes sense. *-) Kevin
  10. Very interesting. I was in Amsterdam a few weeks back on a "fact finding" mission. (ci) :-* I very much doubt that they would have such problem over there. From what I have been told, there has been a bit of a weed "drought" over the past few months. Clearly in trying to stop one problem, the government may have inadvertantly caused a bigger long term health problem.
  11. Great minds think alike mate I've been thinking about the same thing for mine except I got 2 extra doors to have done. Sparkz has got Audi handles on his Mk2. Definately a job for a competant bodyshop. I've seen them on a few dubs that aren't straight and its not a good look. I'm sure it would be a case of cutting out a plate around the old handles and welding the new ones in place. There may have to be some "alterations" to the linkage so that everything does what it should. Interested to see the end result tho Kevin P.S. Sparkz, how did they do yours?
  12. I had some TSW rims re-furbed through a tyre shop for my old MK3. I wanted to know what colour they used and was told "a BMW silver". A bit vague but I thought the colour was perfect. Not too dark or light. It seemed as if they used the paint to build the rims up. Prior to haveing them done they were in a real mess. When I got them back I was amazed. They were flawless but the slightest touch from a kerb and the result was far worse than you would get with a new allow wheel. 13. Have you checked the actual plugs that connect to the light clusters? I know that on Fix Or Repair Dailies (Fords) these would often get corroded and cause the exact same xmas tree effect you have mentioned. You can get rid of any green corrosion or rust on the connectors with some fairly coarse sandpaper, wd40 or electrical cleaner until clean/shiney metal can be seen. Do the samer on the plug end with a thin screwdriver or file and give it a try. As mentioned above all main earthing pionts are under the bonnet so just follow the various earths from the battery and look for any loose or br
  14. No need to be abrupt mate? A simple yes or no would suffice. If your car hasnt been rolling roaded by Vince' date=' then why bother replying? Are you bored? Back on track...Me personally mate, no, but i have a mate [b']6potmkII who had his mk2 vr rolling roaded at Stealth a couple of months ago and he was well pleased with his results. Also, there was a rolling road session about a month ago for the vr6 owners club and the results are on the forum. ** Just realised im logged in my cousin's name!! Any comebacks to my comment above, Its SPARKZ. Many thanks!! **
  15. Looks really good Rich. The interior colour compliments the colour of the car. Was that rear bench specially adapted to have an armrest or was that part of the recaro interior? Kevin
  16. A bit of a grey area mate. You are allowed to drive your car to a MOT test station providing its booked in with them. As long as your insurance was valid on the day of the accident and you were on your way to have the car tested you should be covered. I'm not 100% sure but I think it is unlikely that the other persons insurance company will ask you to produce a valid MOT certificate for that day but with the new MOT system, all information is stored on a central database. If your old MOT was the new A4 print-out type then they will probably be able to access that info if necessary. I wo
  17. Neither. All you will be doing is flattening them slightly so that the centre caps fit flush. If you have Solitudes then I have been told that you can use the VW centre caps from them without having to take a hammer to the bearing covers. I've left the Audi centres on mine. Just personal preferance Kevin
  18. Mine too. I've put it down to alternator complianing at having to go to work in the cold. :-d Not a problem as long as it goes after a few minutes idling. Definatly only noticeable as it starts to get cold. Whatever the cause, its good to know its an inherant feature of these great engines. Kevin
  19. Well done mate!!! I thought I got a bargain when I paid £200 for mine late last year. They were similar to yours in as much as the faces are perfect but outer edges were a bit kerbed. Anyway, once the car was lowered they had to go straight on. I will get them refurbed one day. Fingers crossed that there was no film in that camera btw Kevin
