  1. Noisy alternator? If the bearing is knackered it will make a whining noise. Usually worse when you first start up. Try removing the belt and running the engine BRIEFLY and see if the noise goes. If it does then it is just a process of elimination. Kevin
  2. At last i can revaeal the final stages and the end result of this little project. Thanks to all the VR6OC members that I saw on Sunday at the Pod for your feed back on the new front. I wasn't too sure if it would suit the car but i can honestly say i have no regrets about having it done. I wasn't too keen on the grill at first but it has grown on me. I may change to a 2 slat but for now i'll stick with it. The icing on the cake were the angel eyes which Cuz (Sparkz) spotted in the auto jumble at GTi Festival. ALL comments, both positve and negative would be greatly appreciated
  3. Hi It could be a silght air lock m8. how long did you run it with the cap off and heating on for? from my limited knowledge of VR's the temp gauges sit at half way (12 o'clock) unless a non standard thermostat is fitted or one that opens at a lower temperature. another possiblity is the temp sender. Kevin
  4. Jake, can i squeeze next to the line up with my missus' mk3 gl? Im trying to sell it? (Sparkz) (Dont worry, its clean and its worthy!!!)
  5. Sparkz wrting under Spindat-Dub The odd shaped hole is for the oil return feed for the charger.
  6. the headlights are going to be a tight fit but they will go in. i wanted to have wing extension down the side as well but it wouldn't have looked right and the headlights would definately not have fitted without stripping the front end down. I've had a lot of interest in the mods whilst the car has been in the bodyshop. I hope it suits the car as i haven't seen it on a mk 3 before. fingers crossed
  7. Hi I'd be asking if the engine had really done 46k when it was fitted. What mileage have you got on the clock now btw? In my opinion it wouldn't make sense just to change the lower tensioner which is why I would question wheter it has been changed or not. The tensioners on early VR6 engines were not as good as those fitted to later ones and tended to wear out a lot quicker. Its probably not such a bad thing that you stripped it down yourself. At least it will be done properly this time. Its just a pain in the arse having to do something which you have paid for. Change everything that can
  8. Call youselves VW enthusiasts? Its the limited edition VW Golf Clipper Snow Plough.
  9. Hahaa. :-d It will be ready this week so i'll be at the Pod next sunday.
  10. HAve you tried moving the ECU connection whilst the car is running to see if the problem lies in that connection? Had this problem on a friends VR a couple of months back. I'd also recommend running a standard ECU. Kevin
  11. I got mine fromthem direct. If you haven't done so already then try this link http://www.gmaxsuspension.co.uk/c1473_1589_1628_1662.htm and order online. There shouldn't be any problem having them sent to Spain. Kevin
  12. I haven't bled one on a VR. Its usually a case of finding the clutch master cylinder reservoir and making sure its topped up with fluid. Not sure if VR's are fed from the brake reservoir like some Vauxhalls. To bleed it you will need a basic brake bleeding kit to make this easier, and 2 people. One inside and one at the bleed nipple end which will be on the slave. Undo the bleed nipple slightly and press and hold the pedal down. Tighten bleed nipple and release the pedal. Air will should come out at first. Repeat this process about half a dozen times making sure that the reservoir does not
  13. Its really simple. The standard bump stops are made from hard foam and can be cut very easily with a junior hacksaw. My G-Max kit came with an advisory note of how much to cut them down by. From memory this was about 30mm which I removed from the bottom of the bump stop. It will make more sense once you or your mechanic actually see the bump stop when the suspension leg is stripped down. Remember to find somewhere to have your wheel alignment (tracking & camber) checked and adjusted after the supsension has been fitted and settled in. Both will definatly need to be adjusted!!! Get y
  14. Hi Soca Warrior. It could be the clutch slave cylinder. Sometimes when they haven't been used for a while they lose hydraulic pressure. It may just be a case of bleeding it to get rid of the air. That might get your pedal back. At worst it may need replacing if the seals have gone. Kevin
  15. Hi Nelson I know that the standard ones need to be cut down but I don't know what the original length of them is. I only cut down the front ones btw. I would suggest checking with powerflex or a similar manufacturer to see whether or not they do shorter than standard uprated bump stops for a 40mm drop. I'm sure they will be able to advise. Sorry I can't be more help but I didn't change mine. Kevin
  16. Some new pics taken at Inters. I must say the car looks a lot better in the pics than it does up close. Who said the camera never lies eh? A liar probably It was good to meet a few of the other club members and to have a chat.
  17. Hmmm... Ive had my VR since November and had my air con regassed yesterday as it was not constantly blowing cold air. On my way back home after sitting in traffic I heard this loud hovercraft noise which turned out to be my fans runing at take off speed. I've never had this happen before but then my air con has never worked properly until yesterday. The fans returned to normal running speed with the air con still on after a short time. I guess this was after the temperature had returned to a sensible temperature. Seeing as they did not run continuously I hope that they were just doing the
  18. I think that it only runs on after the key has been taken out if the fans are running. This so that the coolant continues to be circulated around the engine after turning off. Much needed on these babies as they run so hot. When the fans go off so does the aux pump. Its not as easy to hear the aux pump when the fans are going though. Kevin
  19. Not a problem m8! Make sure you get some before and after pics! Important date for your diary :- 9th July, GTI Summer Festival at Santa Pod! Kevin
  20. It was fine on the fine on the Solitudes m8. Low but not too low for these damn South London speed humps. The handling was much better on badly worn tyres. Even after putting the 17's on the ride is not as harsh as I though it was going to be The bump stops are fitted to the shocks and stop the piston from bottoming out when you hit a bump. The standard ones are made from hard foam and need to be cut down slightly because of the lower ride height of the G-Max suspension. They are worth changing as they are cheap and often perish with time. Are you going to GTi International on Sunday? Kev
