That does sound bad... who did you order it through? Did you order it direct from Samco?
-
Just read you want a 3" bore. Mine is same bore as the stock exhaust (2.25") but more free flowing. Milltek may do a bigger bore for the mk3 but haven't seen one advertised for the mk3.
-
Yeah, agreed as above, must be max 'gross' weight permissable, as opposed to kerb weight when the car's empty.
-
You're right mate, boring out to 3.0 would make it weaker. Better of keeping the 2.8 as it is or going to a 2.9 but to be honest I wouldn't bother...the difference would be minimal. A turbo conversion will cost approx £5k in total. Pretty expensive but the best way to get big power..around 400bhp+. The standard gearbox should cope ok but lsd or an uprated diff would be a good idea to put down the extra power. There aren't many turbo conversions on the VR6 in the UK. If you speak to The Phirm they have just done one taking their golf up to over 400bhp. I've seen it in person and it is o

I was going to do that (there's a big police station I could have stopped at in Worthing) but I lost him first on the dual carriageway.

Here's what happened to me on the A27 near Brighton: I was driving down the dual carriageway about 60mph in the fast lane, traffic was fairly heavy. This guy in a black Seat Altea decided to undertake a few cars and then 'squeeze' into the gap inbetween me and the car in front...except he misjudged it and almost ran me off the road side swiping me. I almost hit the central reservation. I had to brake so hard I thought I was going to spin out. I was furious. I was so close to being killed (no exageration). Then there was space down the inside and I know I shouldn't have but I undertook him, a

I've heard a few negative reports about AMD. Anyway, if you're in the Oxford area take your car to Stealth who are just up the road from you in Stoke. They are one of the best in the business when it comes to VR6's.. highly recommended on here and other VW forums.

A remap and rolling road diagnostic would normally help to sort your emissions out.

AMD no longer servicing VR6's

That IS a load of bo***cks mate... otherwise it would be illegal to put a s/s exhaust on any car... performance exhaust manufacturers would go out of business because they would be in court all the time. What they have said is definitely wrong about noise level being same as factory (some coppers are very intelligent)... however what is true is there is a law which states a certain noise limit that applies to ALL cars.. its probably something like 80db.. but you will have to ring up the DVLA or an MOT test centre. If I was you I would ring up your local copper shop and tell them what the cop

Hi mate, Sorry Stealth is £50 plus vat too, so sounds like your local rr is virtually the same price. But Stealth do specialise in everything to do with VR's VW's etc. They are the best when it comes to VR mapping. However I'm sure your local one is good too for a rolling road session. My mods are cat back Milltek exhaust, high flow cat, BMC air filter, s/s 6 branch exhaust manifold, and Eurospec 268 cams, plus Stealth's remap. You lose a very slight low down torque but that is common with all 268 cams, although it is very hardly noticable, with more power above 3k revs. If I was going t

I've got the twin exit Milltek cat back exhaust. You won't be disappointed. It sounds perfect... not too loud but a nice howl when you floor it. It doesn't drone. Everyone that hears it have said it sounds good. Fits perfectly too. Stealth fitted mine and they really commented how well it fitted. Not sure on any websites I'm afraid.

I agree with Mark(seademon) too. But thats my personal opinion. I personally wasn't after leather or air con when I bought mine..the weather's not that hot in this country and it sucks about 5bhp from your car too and weighs 30kgs. I have to admit Leather would have been nice but the seat itself is exactly the same shape with same hugging side supports as the fabric one. The engine and power in the highline and non-highline is exactly the same too. However all this is my personal opinion. If you are definitely after leather and air con hold out for a Highline or some non-highlines tha

Air con weighs approx 25-30kgs. I doubt the leather seats will add a huge amount over a stock car..the seats are the same shape..just leather on the outside instead of fabric. Standard car weighs 1180kgs kerb weight...so a Highline will be around 1210kgs kerb weight at most. The engine itself and power is the same in either car. However if you are doing any racing make sure your air con is turned off as it will sap about 5bhp when its on.
-
What does either cost..for parts and fitting?
-
You should see around 180 up to 190bhp if you have an enlarged throttle body and air filter. Yours is OBD1 so will also benefit from a remap (£300 from Stealth)...much better than a chip and same price too. How much is your rr session costing you? Stealth aren't too far from you and are the best in the UK when it comes to remapping for a VR (everyone on here will recommend them highly) ... their full rolling road session is £50 too which is far cheaper than some of my local rr's. Vince will also talk at length about what mods you can do specifically for your motor and what mods are pointle
-
You're right mate... your exhaust does need a certain amount of back pressure to run well. Best bet is to try and put the boxes back on if possible or at least one of them. I may be wrong though...try ringing Stealth as Vince used to deal with cup cars which actually had straight through exhausts from the engine so will be an expert on this matter.

Oil - Normal operating temperature?
matth76 replied to The_0ne's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
90 is the normal operating oil temp... however depends on the weather and how it's driven. Mine stays around this if doing a steady 30 to 60mph...but will hover between 90-100 when going down the dual carriageway. Basically don't take your car over 3000 revs when cold until it has reached 90 deg..takes about ten mins to warm up. -
Hi there, what do you think you will get next...any preferences?
-
A decat and high flow cat yield about the same amount of power..maybe a fraction more with a decat. To be honest you will hardly see any increase with either... unless you go supercharged.
-
Its worse with a chip if you add more mods...chips are fare more "in-flexible"...meaning they can only handle certain mods...once you add more you dangerously put your engine at risk of pinking etc... meaning you have to buy a totally new chip and have it installed again...a lot of hassle. A remap is far better mate...as you only need to do it once ..then "adjust" your map when you add more mods in the future. Stealth's full custom map is the same price as a superchip. Good value if you ask me.

Nothing wrong with your figures at all mate. As already said it is how it drives not what's on a bit of paper. That day when I was down at the phirm, same day you had your suspension fitted, Ian came back after test driving it and said my car was F*cking quick. That was before I had my cams fitted...my car has since had the cams fitted with a remap and now makes approx the same torque and has about 14 more bhp but Ian said it actually felt a bit slower higher up in the rev range than the last time he drove it ...even though on paper it had a fair bit more peak power. Personally I can hardly
